  • @keesanka1 Are you ready to re-set your toilet? Thanks for checking out the video. Anytime you have a howto/DIY question, just let me know. Joe :0

  • My dad and I are installing a newtoilet this weekend, some YouTube videos say that the wax ring that comes with a new toilet isn't the best. Is this true? Do you recommend buying a ring sepretly from the toilet?

  • @TheElricKNIGHT I have not heard that before but if you have a question, you can get a separate one & use it. They don't cost very much so if you feel like you need to do this, then I would say by all means do it. Good luck with the toilet install. Joe :0

  • Always use the thicker wax ring and you'll never have a problem I find. good video joe

  • @TVMii The thing is when you go to the store, there are about 4 or 5 different sizes you can get & you can get 2 different thicknesses which is different than the actual height. Because the hercle flange was lower then the floor, the tallest wax ring they had, would only have touched the toilet underside, by like 1/8". That's why I ended up putting a thinner one on top of the first one. In most cases you would be right by using the taller & thicker one. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0

  • SOOOO GETTO DUDE!!!

  • @recruiting I agree....the floor was pretty ghetto looking! As for the info. "joe" gave on setting the wax rings...that part was very informative. I hope your floor doesn't look like this one, as this one desperately needs to be replaced. Thank for commenting. Joe :0

  • that floor is dun and hoo laid that tile dam

  • @kearneytyrone The floor needs to be replaced that's for sure. I was helping a friend, over at his Grandpa's place. That's what happens when a toilet leaks for a long time. Don't let this happen to your floor. Joe :0

  • did he turn the phone off with his nasty hand?

  • @jpsj766910 Can't remember but I know I washed my hands when I got done with the project....including the phone! Joe :0

  • you need new tile

  • @enfieldpolice I agree, this tile really needs to be replaced. I was helping a friend out so it's not my floor. Good observation. Joe :0

  • The better option would to get a waxless seal (fernco is good) when the toilet flange sits low.

  • @shermanr6 A waxless seal huh? I've not heard of those. I'll look & see, next time I'm at the hardware store. It's always good to have options. Thanks for letting me know! Have a great day. Joe :0

  • So Joe, we just installed our toilet tonight and it's not draining quickly like its supposed to. It's like the wax ring went inside the sewage pipe instead of around the bottom of the toilet. Is that possible?

  • @Mandys31giftss Did you set the wax ring like I show? If the wax ring slid, I would think the bottome of the toilet would be leaking all over the floor. Did you install a new toilet? Could it be possible there is something that accidentally went down the toilet bowl & is half clogging the toilet? I've never heard of a wax ring sliding down the drain. I'm thinking it might be something else. Is your flapper adjusted properly? Hold the handle down to check water flow. Let me know. Joe :0

  • Joe, just saw your message above after typed out after typed out below. I was just worried that if sat on it before time it would collapse or something bad, No we dont have carpet around it, we have tiles.

  • Once installed, how long before we can actually use it? plumber said 5hrs, I think this extreme to be honest.

  • @Musicmania1968 I agree with you....very extreme. Joe :0

  • We are having a new toilet put in thursday, the plumber said we cant use it for 5 hours after, dunno how we supposed to go to the toilet then cause I cant wait 5hrs?

  • @Musicmania1968 He might be referring to the caulking at the bottom edge needing to be dry but that should not make you have to wait to use the toilet. That should not be. You shouild be able to use the toilet right away. The caulking at the bottom exposed edge is only cosmetic & does not have anything to do with the toilet leaking or not. If you have to go.....go!!...lol Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows thanks for your help and reply, I was very concerned, I even rang up Dads mate who used to be a plumber by pro, he said same as you, only the council plumber said we cant use it once installed for 5 hours, we are not doing it ourselves, the council are doing it, I dont know what country you are in, but we have a council here which own so many flats, apartments, and they do all that stuff get their own plumbers, etc. I think we will just have to not sit on it though when using.

  • Respond to this video... He said it takes 5 hours to cure, or be cured. whatever that means, aint a clue.

  • @Musicmania1968 When he says "cure, cured, curing", he is referring to the sealant that he will be applying around the exposed bottom edge of the toilet. As for sitting on the toilet, you should not have to worry. I've seen some toilets installed where they might not even apply caulking/sealant at the bottom edge.....if there is carpet around the toilet. If you have to use it before the 5 hours is up....I won't tell anyone!!....lol Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows thanks for help

  • @Musicmania1968 You're welcome. Thanks for asking my opinion on the subject. Anytime you have a howto/DIY question, just ask. That's what I'm here for. Joe :0

  • ha ha he said nuts

  • @Deadfart1012 Thanks for taking time out to send me a line. Hope you learned something! Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows I am not looking forward to it all tomorrow, as got to sit in all day while he does it, its the council plumber, unless you live in UK you probably wont know what "a council" is.

  • @Musicmania1968 I've got a good idea what a council is now that you have explained it to me. Just don't drink too much water before the plumber gets there! Can't you sneak in to a neighbors if needed? Or drive down to the pub? Have a game plan then you won't be worried as much. Joe :0

  • Get out of here! really? wax ring to water seal?

  • @UnitedPebbles What are you referring to? re: water seal? Joe :0

  • If you think tiling around your toilet is a good idea than stacking rings should be just fine!

  • Stacking wax rings is NOT the answer whether it is a 1/4" or 1-1/4". The toilet flange is supposed to sit on top of the finished floor. There is only one toilet flange extender that I know of which would work in this situation...They have a YouTube video...under Set-Rite Products..the Complete Toilet Flange Repair Kit...

  • @how2dovideos Thanks for the info. on extending the toilet flange flush with the floorline. That would work well but the hardware store has at least 4 different thicknesses of wax rings for the unlucky people who cannot locate a toilet flange extender yet need to get their project done. That's what I show here, how to get things done with the materials at hand & still make it work. My uncle showed me the tip on stacking 2 rings "in a pinch". Try it. It works great....if needed. Joe :0

  • Why is the Tile set around the toilet instead of under it?

  • @Learnthethingsido The person (not "joe") who installed the tile did not make the extra effort to remove the toilet before installing the tile floor. It's really recommended to install your flooring under the toilet as well, for a better tile install, etc.. Thanks for your question. Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows Oh ok. Ya i was gonna say im not no professional tiler but i know for sure that was laziness who layed that tile ha. I know you would have done a MUCH Much Better job on it.

  • @Learnthethingsido You know he would've! "Joe" does things right....no matter what. That's why he does these videos...to show you how to do things the correct way so your project will look like a pro. Thanks for your comments. I'll make sure "joe knows" lol! :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows Yupp. Thanks joe Keep up the good work.

  • @Learnthethingsido I will......thanks for your vote of confidence! Joe :0

  • I would first finish the unfinished tile work, just sloppy it is under the toilet. This so the next guy wont have to mop the mess up like you did. form tile close around drain, it should incorerate into wax also. You see the toilet was manufactured to be installed on a totally flat surface Well anyway VideoJoe this Job is good for the big 12 yr it ll do

  • HI Joe--Very interesting..Who was

the extra hand that appeared at 4:16 ?

Wish you were in my neighborhood...

What sealant do I put around the

area where the toilet and floor meet????

  • @luvperu1 That extra "hand" was my friend Beau. I was helping him at his Grandfather's house, to remove & re-install his leaky toilet. I was just ready to upload a short video that talks about what type of caulking you should use at the base. I'll put it up in the next few days......just for you! Look for it. Joe :0

  • @VideoJoeKnows ---HI JOE --I WILL BE

    WAITING.....Polly

  • @luvperu1 Hey Polly.......just uploaded the video for you re: caulking in a toilet....what type of caulking should I use?......Hope this helps you out. Remember....."joe" uploaded this video especially for you! :0

  • great vid, joe!

  • @amena92 Thanks for your short....but sweet....comment. That means you've been watching! Joe :0

  • Fantastic video, Joe!

    Thumbs up!

  • @oniichanrikku I think you're just about ready to install your own toilet......what do you think? Thanks again for your thumbs up! Joe :0

  • Ha awesome!

  • @JoshsBlock Thanks for checking out "the joe" & learning about wax rings & toilets! Doesn't it just make you want to get in there & tackle installing a toilet lol? When you're ready though, I know you can do it! Just keep watching "joe" & he'll help you along the way. :0
