In the uk all big Gas users in winter are on what is called Gas interuptable supplies where they have to change over to oil when gas is in short supply. So in a bad winter electric cars would defeat the object.Over production of energy in the UK in winter is not with us we import electricity from france

@chriscas1993 the V12 TDI concept R8 had 1000tq but the problem was it was exerting the power on one driveshaft to the front wheels causing them to break (thats why the Q7 V12 can do it because it has a heavier duty drive shaft). But since the R8 e-tron is using only 4 motors on each wheel it has less surface area to exert force on compared to the long drive shaft that goes to the front wheels. do the math, 3k tq on 4 wheels, thats 750 distributed to each wheel (not counting sport adjustment).

I've just read that they want to produce the e tron beginning in 2012 beginning with 1000 units. I'll have to start saving some money, I think it won't be cheap, considering that the battery alone for this beast will probably be at 30.000 euros. Ha ha !

Not just because they're better for the environment, also because they are superior from an engineering perspective. Electric motors have less weight and less parts than an internal combustion engine, making them more reliable.

I don't know about this car, but the Lightning GT should be able to go for over 300 km on a charge, and can charge in 10 minutes (though it's a very expensive car).

3000 ft/lbs of Torque?! That's more than two semi trucks. Thank goodness it has for wheel drive, otherwise it would need a propeller on the top of the front end to keep it from flipping over like a helicopter. I don't even think the Blackhawk helicopter has this much torque....
