Just got back from seeing Matilda tonight and oh WOW!!!!! The most amazing show I have ever seen !! - and I have seen a lot of shows !!!!! :) :) I was so looking forward to seeing what Matilda I would have and what children's cast , well cleo was absolutely fantastic !!!! She had the audience laughing and jaw - dropped the whole way through - she and all the children ( especially lavender and the smallest boy) was the complete talk of the interval !! :) the dancing , singing and acting from ad
So...WHY are there so many negative comments here? I really don't understand. And why are people who are complimenting the children's performances getting thumber down or flagged as spam?
@soooyeahhh There's a bitter campaign being waged by some disgruntled people. The RSC have looked in to it on their site. Some people have way too much time on their hands and don't seem to mind pissing on the parade cause they didn't get to march in it :(
Absolutely fantastic. Truly the best musical which i have ever seen!!! Saw tonights production which had cleo demitrou who was amazing and judging by her performance if the others are anywhere near half as good they will deserve awards aswell. Every actor was perfectly cast and the choreography and songs near perfection. Dont understand all the neg aswell and i cannot recommend this production enough. Honestly book your tickets immediately. I for one shall definitely be going again.
This is a great show based on having seen on 31 December. The standard of the young actors was truly excellent. Unlike some other current musicals, there is a definable story (close to the original story), the lyrics are clever and it is enjoyable.
It would be good if there is a difference of view that real reasons are given rather than voting down as the negative voting on this site looks a liitle corporate.
I took the kids and granparents to see the show on Saturday afternoon and it was truely wonderful. It was the most enjoyable show I have seen in many many years, the kids were fantastic, the songs were terrific and Miss Trunchbull was wonderfully terrifying. Everyone has their own opinions but it's such a shame people have to slag off so many peoples hard work and enjoyment. Stop being so miserable people and enjoy it for what it is, a few hours to stop and enjoy life.

Wow, I did not come to this video expecting so many negative comments. I absolutely loved the musical. We had Cleo as our Matilda and she was fantastic, didn't hit a bad note once and managed to command the stage the whole way through (no small feat for someone so small :P). Everyone was raving about the show afterwards.

To be honest, I saw the show not long ago, we had Eleanor Worthington Cox as our Matilda, and I thought she done a fab job! These kids are what... 10 or 11? They're not gonna be absolutely phenomenal are they!?!? technically they're still in training! But for their age they done a pretty good job! And it doesn't really matter how many shows they've done in order to be nominated for an award. Clearly critics went to see the show and thought the deserved to be nominated! So stop attacking them!
@baglady271 Are you also aware that what you say is YOUR OPINION?. Can I ask you one thing...I was truly BLOWN AWAY by Bertie Carvel's performance and I believe he deserved all the amazing press he got for his marvellous performance, do you think that Bertie Carvel should be spared his nomination (as should anybody else) because the show had been open for 2 weeks? This question is mainly regarding the difference between working child and adults, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
@333dancingqueen but wait...you said 'Also were the award nominations not announced less than 2 weeks after the show opened?' what difference does that make between Bertie and the Matilda's? You have quite clearly shown an opinion that shows should win awards if they have been open for a considerable amount of time, what difference does it make if their Matilda's or Adult cast? But that's YOUR OPINION, it is your opinion that they shouldn't be up for awards. I've never heard anyone say 'cute'
can't wait to see Cleo as Matilda! Saw her as Little Cosette in Les Mis a few times and she's soo talented and not to mention adorable too! GO CLEO!! x
Just seen the 4 Matildas are up for an award for acting!!! What an absolute joke!!! they have only been playing the role for a couple of weeks how can you be up for something after that amount of time, 3 - 4 months should be the minimum...and the one we saw, no way!!
@mikeanddebs WHAT A RIDICULOUS THING TO SAY. It's not down to how long they have been performing it for, it's about the quality of the performance, and if you want to doubt there performance, then that's your opinion. What do you say to small shows that only get a months run at off west end houses, they still can win awards cant they? With your argument, it must count for films right? 'Oh no, that film cant win Best Film, even though it is the best, because it's only been on sale for 2 months'?
@mikeanddebs Of course they win awards! But, regardless of how many awards they win, they still win awards, don't they? They still have people handing them awards because their performance or production was of a good level, even if they have been running for 2 months,I would agree that it is not as common, yes, but they still win awards. They haven't done 4-5 shows each,I know one of the Matilda's personally, and I can assure you she has done many more. But the current Billies didn't originate?
@mikeanddebs and I don't think it's right to compare two roles to each other regarding winning awards, just on the basis that they are both children's roles. They are two separate roles, completely different, because funnily enough one is called Matilda and the other is called Billy, funny eh?
@mikeanddebs and I don't think it's right to compare two roles to each other regarding winning awards, just on the basis that they are both children's roles. They are two separate roles, completely different, because funnily enough one is called Matilda and the other is called Billy, funny eh?
@mikeanddebs yeah, that's not how nominations work. it doesn't matter how long you've been playing the role as long as you originated it in the production and you are eligible for the award during the show's first season. for example, shows open on the award cutoff day all the time. are you saying that the actors in those shows should not be eligible for acting awards due to the fact that they only had one official performance before the award deadline?
@mikeanddebs if they are for it, it means they give an amazing performance every night! And the show was on a year before in Stratford Upon-Avon! And i bet you have no idea how much work the kids go through for the show! why dont you try and go do the show 3 times a week using the swings all the dance moves and trying to remember all the lines. and Matilda is in the whole show she is only off the stage for about 15 minuets altogether. So i think they deserve the award after all the work they do!
@mikeanddebs I bet you were not that talented when you were little and they have already achieved more than you have so even more reason they should be up for an award...So there.
We saw Adrianna Bertola play Matilda at the Courtyard Theater when we were visiting Stratford-upon-Avon last December from the States, fantastic little actress, she'll go far! great show, great theater and Tim....great music! made our holidays ....PLEASE PLEASE bring it to Broadway so we can see it again over here!
I've seen the show 6 times so far (x2 in Stratford, rest in London) I've seen 3/4 of the London Matildas (+ Josie in Stratford) and they're all amazing. Only Kerry yet to see, but from what I've heard / seen of her I am sure she is just as brilliant - hopefully I'll get to see her eventually!
saw the musical last night at the cambridge theatre and it was absolutely astonishing!!! although there was a slight stumble by matilda standing on the box she covered it and carried on brilliantly, wish i could go see it over and over, perfect little voices, not a clue why there are so many negative comments!!! :o
