  • @MROSEN62 Yes, she was part of the Johnny Otis Show at the time and he got her recorded. Her first hit record was "Double Crossing Blues", recorded in 1950 for Savoy Records.

  • @abocas Yeah, I lost my best friend to drugs. We met when we were 9 years old and were like brothers. We went to college together as roommates and then he got to using. He died and old man before he was 40. I had to cut him loose when he got addicted because he was trying to drag me down with him.

  • Okay, I just listened to this song again and realized Esther's giving us a lil' Eartha Kitt and Donna Summer purring during the breakdown around 1:00. LOVE IT! Her voice is so rich. I've always thought it was more like a cross between Nell Carter and Billie Holiday. Love this disco version!!!!! Very uplifting. Thanks for the flashback!!!
