Well, white its concept was really innovative, IMO it became a pain over the years to the park. It wasn't that bad of a ride, but it did need a lot of things to be worked out, most of which were worked out in dodonpa.

I heard that sometimes guests would pay ride ops to make a rollback occur (there is a special test mode that purposly underloads the Shot Tank and causes a rollback to happen). It normally has enought momentum to make it over the top, but even if the ride does normal operation it can sometimes rollback due to rain, too much weight, not enough weight, motor malfunction (in this case, Shot Tank malfunction), too dry, too much heat, and other problems. Rollbacks are sure fun to watch, though!

It rolled back for the same reason that hydraulic launched roller coasters. The trains were weighed right before leaving the station, and sometimes there were miscalculations, and the train didn't make it over because enough force wasn't exerted to get the train over the hill. There's nothing wrong if one of these coasters rolls back. Just like Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka the train would launch once again to go over the hill...

Exactly. All launched coasters will roll back at times. Not just Top Thrill and Kingda Ka. It happens on Maverick, Flight of Fear and Backlot Stunt Coaster (neé Italian Job) and will continue to happen on launched coasters. The ride resets and tries again.

I have friends who've been on both when they rolled back. A priceless quote from one of the ride ops when Italian Job rolled back (didn't clear the opening helix) was "did you guys run out of gas?" as the train was slowly rolled back into the station to unload.

In either case, it's very rare to see most launched coasters rolling back. Top Thrill Dragster is the only one it happens with on a pretty consistent basis. Kingda Ka rollbacks are rarer.

Yea next time let me bring a digital camera to work:| Any how it was a camera phone yes poor quality I know. They tore the ride down because Cedar Fair did not like the ride a at all. Mostly do to capacity and it was a pain to maintain. It cost so much money a day to run that ride. The tires on that ride are expensive. And they go flat about twice a week. A new train set of wheels would pay for 4 years of my college loans.

there were never any safety concerns. the ride was removed because it was a pain to maintain. it was the first of its kind, and was the actual prototype for the company that created it. (check wikipedia) as with any new technology, the initial applications always have bugs, and subsequent designs improve on the original. no worries... hypersonic's removal leaves room for another awesome kd ride! can't wait to see what it turns out to be. :)

Yea, I work there, I knew it was going to happen so thats why I took the video. It happens every single morning reason why? Because the temperature outside is to cold for the ride to run and the wheels are cold. Once warmed up it can successfully make it.

trust me on this--if u haven't already been on this ride--its not worth the line. its basically a 30 second ride. U go up the hill down the hill, go around a corner and the ride's over. I know people who waited 2-4 hours for that ride...wasn't worth it
