  • One of my favorite hymns, the music brings tears to my eyes for in all things, may Jesus Christ Be Praised. This offering with the highly varied use of organ stops outlines the counterpointal writings of the music and bighandDaddy knows how to do the do. I loved it! You will too.

  • @Jcarolinajr Thank you for your kind comments!

  • I love the way it builds up to the final stanza where you really let loose and give it the full "treatment". AWESOME!

  • Thanks!

  • I stumbled upon your channel quite by accident, and four hours later, I'm still listening to your amazing talent. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible gift with the world. Mark, you ARE the man!

  • FOUR HOURS?? You mean I haven't bent your ears by now?.....HaHaHA!! you're a brave soul for sure, Thanks!

  • T. Tertius Noble lives!

  • As Austin Powers would say, "Yeah Baby!!!" I just love his hymns and this one especially!

    BDM

  • The best version of this hymn on Youtube. Well done!

  • Really? Thanks so much!

    BDM

  • You haven't put anything on YouTube for a while. I miss your playing.

  • Hey ShandyHall, good to hear from you! I'll be in NYC May 14th-18th to film new videos finally as it has been over a year. I intend on filming another 12-20 videos, so stay tuned buddy!...........

    BDM

  • GREAT! I look forward to it. Oh, and by the way, Happy Virgil Fox Birthday!

  • When was his birthday, and how old would he have been?

  • Dang Mark, always so SMOOTH, confident and natural on the stop changes!

  • Yeah, I'm a good ACTOR!...........

    thanks,

    Mark

  • @lostnyc2 Thanks! Thought I replied a year ago, apparently not! Yeah, I like pushing buttons, I mean PISTONS hehe.......

  • How about "Hail Thee Festival Day"? You do Ralph Vaughn-Williams wel!

  • Sorry, thought I replied. That's coming up soon, as I'll be in NYC to film more You Tube videos May 14-18, 2009. Stay tuned.............

    Mark

  • @WeHoFur Wow, I'm sooo rude! I'm finding that I didn't repond to quite a few here on youtube, sorry 'bout that! So a year later I respond.....Anyway, I've meant to post "Hail thee Festival Day" once I've learned to play it, and properly at that as I'm not a professional organist as you well know. I love Ralph Vaughn-Williams' hymns!

  • This interpretation makes me feel like the sun is indeed coming up! On to the next video!

  • @Contrabass32 It's shameful that I'm just reponding a year later, geez... Thanks for your comment lol!

  • This is so enjoyable to listen to. It brings tears to my eyes to here beautiful hymns such as this. You do this piece justice. God's awesomeness speaks through your music.

  • Thank you so much.............

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (Feb. 15), we sang this as our opening hymn. It is #853 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Just thought I'd share.

  • Great! another favourite of mine. Hope you all sang it with much lung capacity!!

    Mark

  • We pretty much did. I sat on the front row. We sang Guide Me Ever, Great Redeemer as the closing hymn and the singing on it was great.

  • Good! Nothing like good hymn singing...........

  • Hyfrdol?

  • I'll include that hymn in the next taping whenever that will be.................

  • Bravissimo!

  • Thanks!

  • Really enjoy your playing Mark, your Church is lucky to have you. Have listened to a few of your videos, all were wonderful.

    Brad

  • Ha, HA!! lucky to have me? Hey Brad, I'd be lucky if they'd let me sweep the floors! Right now, no church is 'lucky' enough to have me, but I most appreciate the kind thoughts. I hope that one day I'll be lucky enough to get an invite from some church organist to come and participate in a service. Fat chance of that happening............

  • Mark your last comment was kinda funny {The messing up bit), I RARELY pratice around other people. So, when people hear me I am usually on point or just adding to the arrangement, but learning a composition, I like to do that alone.

  • Which comment was that? I don't mind saying so myself, most times I'm hilarious so you'll have to be more specific lol! Thanks brotha, I'm about to open the 2 private messages you sent. Anymore "car talk" in them? later..........

    Mark

  • AWESOME! Once again, thanks for taking a traditional hymn to the next level. I try what I can, but have to use "alternate arrangements" (I then alter them some more...) I'm not a "play-by-ear" guy, so my changes are pretty limited. Bless you for your talent! Keep posting - I'm gonna keep listening!!!

    Greg

  • Thanks yet again Greg! more postings are on the way after the new year so stay tuned. Good to hear from you my friend!

    Mark

  • God bless you for allowing Him to use your talent to His glory. I grew in up a very traditional United Methodist Church where the hymns of the church were so important and still are. You make the organ talk!!! It's worth getting up on Sunday morning just to go to hear you play! Thanks,

    kenny

  • Thanks Kenny! be well............

  • May Jesus Christ be praised! Yes and Amen!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Can you move to South Florida? I have a great Episcopal Church that would love to have you play...permanetly!

  • Thanks, I've actually flirted with that idea as recently as 2 weeks ago while talking with a friend in Miami that I knew years ago in New York. There are lots of organs in South Florida that I'd like to play and hopefully will get to play before the summer is over. As far as a job is concerned, that Episcopal Church would rather have a professional play for them I'm sure. Thanks for the kind thoughts...........

  • That last verse is fab. Have you the re-hamonisation written down?

  • Thank you! I only have the sound recording of that arrangement copy written as that is from a CD that I recorded with 35 of my favorite hymns on it. Hold on, as I'm having a complete book printed on my arrangements in the not to distant future. I'll keep you posted...........

  • Very nice...BRAVO!!! Not overdone....just right!

  • Thanks again, I'm not sure what 'over done' is exactly as we all have our own styles etc., of course we all hear things differently. Thanks for your compliments.

    Mark

  • I think I shall use this as the opening hymn this Sunday. And I will plagiarize the hell out of your reharmonization of the last last verse. Just remember, imitation = flattery!!! :)

  • Ha, ha! PLEASE have at it, and enjoy yourself!!!

  • love it! Do you know the Dale Wood arrangement of this hymn? that makes a beautiful prelude.

  • Nice hearing from you, and I encourage all to check out the wonderful videos posted by fluteceleste, they truly are wonderful. No Sir, I don't know the Dale Wood arrangement nor do I know who Dale Wood is. You're a far superior organist than I could ever hope to be, could you play and post aforementioned arrangement? That would be cool.........

    Mark

  • Is your son an organist or something? Is that why you say your son will laugh his ass off at you for messing up. It wouldn't be that noticable to a non-musician.

  • No, my son actually plays Tuba and he's 100 times a better musician than I could ever hope to be. When I mess up, it's very apparent that I did because of either the expression on my face, or I'll roll my eyes, or I'll make references to my intelligence out loud or worse. Since he was a kid, every time this sort of thing happens, it would crack him up

  • I also think he laughs at me because I have this absurd idea that I should NEVER make a mistake, and that it will be noticed by EVERYONE. As you pointed out, my mistakes wouldn't be that apparent to a non-musician and that's true but he has been going to churches with me so that I could practice since he was 2 years old. So like those at a NASCAR race waiting for a crash, he waits for dad to screw up and my famous (to him) reactions to such screw ups. We have a good laugh & good time. Thanks!

  • Wow, you are truley wonderful and inspiring. I love to hear you play. Thanks very much for the sharing.

  • Thank you and you're most welcome!

  • Beautiful flutes at the beginning!

  • The strings are even nicer on that organ.

  • Awesome rendition! It's one of my favorites. Another version that I like is on the Allen organ website. By the way this is JP. And I'll be 24 in a couple more weeks too, just like your son!

  • Hey Man, Thanks! I called you this morning and missed you, but I did leave a message. In your photo of the pedal board is that a Casavant that you're playing? I've recorded a triple CD of 35 of my favorite hymns, and I've got a 'sampler' of 10 of the 35 tracks I could send you if you're interested. E-mail an address.

  • A critic in the family! Great! ;-)

Mystake? I didnt see a misteak!

Nicely done. What is the organ?

And how old is your critic?

  • My son is 23 (he'll be 24 next week). Actually, he laughs at my reaction to my mistakes. Either I roll my eyes, shake my head, or blurt out some expletive followed by negative references about my intelligence. It just cracks him up. Thanks for your viewing and comments. How was the sound quality?

  • Darn! We didn't have a chance hear your references your level of intelligence on your videos! :) I'm sure you underate yourself!

The audio sounded fine to me - better than many I've heard.

I would enjoy having you as our organist!

  • Thanks dude, I don't mind substituting every now and then and I prefer Episcopal churches (Lutheran services are similar). When you sub, you don't have to deal with all of the nonsense (bullshit) that goes along with those idiots in the clergy, front office etc. I simply don't have a long fuse anymore, I'd wind up punching the crap out of some priest.

  • When I substitute I just do it my way and what the heck. But I also am organist at a Lutheran church where they like me. It's a good situation.

  • I would hope that what you've experienced is the norm and some of the horror stories that I've heard and witnessed as a boy chorister are rare. Unfortunately, first impressions are lasting PLUS over the years I've seen many in the clergy and church offices behave in a not so Christian manner. ESPECIALLY towards the Organist and organ tuner. Disgraceful behavior. Thanks for you comment and be well.
