  • Hi Molly, you bet that Bach is hard on double bass. I switched to classical from jazz. I'm international editor of Jersey Jazz, journal of the New Jersey Jazz Society. Do a monthly column for JJ. If you, or any friends, would like to see the April issue, I'll send it as a pdf file attachment. Right now gotta go practice for this afternoon's lesson!

    Al best, Fradley

  • Molly, just listened to you doing the Bach Gavotte 10 from Suite No. 3.

I'm working on the same piece for my double bass lesson on Thursday!

You really give me an idea of a tempo I can do, and how it sounds.

I live in Denmark and am in my 24th year of bass lessons with the same Norwegian-American teacher, Tina Austad.

    Keep playing and many thanks!

  • @fradleygarner I'm glad I could help you. I imagine it to be hard to play on the double bass...good luck with it :) And 24 years already, I'm impressed! I've been playing the viola for...13 years now I think :)

You keep it up too! Greetings from Germany!

  • u r way better than Bratschenmeister

  • @cyruswangshowmaker Wow, thanks! :)

  • Sehr gut gemacht! Ich bin stolz auf Dich^^ (Sorry, aber mir fallen einfach keine guten Kommentare ein :P)

  • Love the poster on the wall. Molly, very cool! Enjoyed listening to ya, I have no musical talent and enjoy listening to those that do. Very very nice my friend! Hugs and stuff to you!

  • @Jinxie228 Thank you, Martha :) Yes, the poster is awesome, that's why I hung it up on my wall :) *hugs*

  • @xxMollyMoonxx I really need some advice/ help on this peice, I've only been playing for 3 years, and I would like to learn, what the smaller note next to the bigger note mean!? Is it a tie? Thank you!

  • @getmoreland As far as I know the little note called a grace note in English. You basically treat it like a very short note and connect it with the bigger note. If you listen to how I'm playing it, the 4th note I'm playing is the short/smaller note and the 5th one is the big one. I hope this helps, good luck and have fun playing! :)

  • Ich bin sprachlos. Ein wunder da ich LMC bin xD

  • yay :) nice video. i agree with wraith, very nice sound. (although two of my former flatmates played violin and they played well, so i liked that sound as well.))

  • @sommerwetter Thanks :) Both the violin and the viola are great instruments. I just really prefer the warm, deep sound of the viola. It doesn't sound as horrible when you screw up on the viola :D

  • I didn't realise you're such a messy eater. You managed to get soup all over the wall ;p

  • @SpookyFan Yes yes, I know. It does take skill though!

  • Well done!. The viola sounds nice and warm, much better than a screechy violin. (I hear violin and viola players often fight about this topic so I'm helping to start the argument :p)

  • @SpookyFan Thank you :) And yes I agree, violas rock. I'm going to record a piece that involves the deep G and C string more. This was actually quite high and screechy for a viola.
