You could argue it was slightly naughty from Schumacher. Mind you everyone else kinda expected it and it completley caught the inexperienced jenson out.
@F1dude17 : slightly naughty? Schumacher did another brake-test behind the SC, just like he did in the tunnel in Monaco 2004...it's no surprise he wasn't penalised in this race, cause it's in Monza...
If you're driving a Ferrari in Monza, you could get away with anything...
@vertigotourinbrussel Theres nothing wrong with it at all, once the safety car's lights go out, the lead driver effectively is the safety car, he can drive as fast or as slow as he likes.
This noob was the luckiest driver in 2009 when he got a car that practically had NOS while other cars thought its illegal. Most unworthy "Champ" ever in history.
@jwmm4eva I'm not saying that button is the best driver because he is far from that but he did deserve it the car was good but more than just them had the double defuser and the way he raced in brazil was brilliant. Alonso's titles were more unworthy because since the weighted dampener in the nose in the renault was banned he hasnt won a title he couldn't even touch lewis most the time when he was in mclaren and he only wins now when he has a clear road
@LaveaFirmis I agree that Alonso is overhyped as well, but I still rate him a better driver than Button. I can't stand Alonso and I'm neutral about Button but I still think Alonso is much better. He has driven some serious knife edge races against Schumacher in 2006 which at least makes him WDC material. His WDC in 2005 was a JOKE though, with Kimi's McLaren breaking down half the season and no other competitors for that bullet proof Renault
@jwmm4eva Its hard to judge really because they both arnt the best but at least Button doesn't fall off the road when put under the slightest bit of pressure or pathetically bitch about people like hes kid. Id say maybe button is very slightly better because of his performance at the end of last year while this year when alonso was moaning about lewis while racing you saw his performance drop dramatically, button wouldn't be affected like that. it was terrible with kimi he should have done beta
@jwmm4eva Take a look back at 2004, when Ferrari had a stupidly dominant car. Button finished in 3rd place well ahead of Alonso. Button won the 2009 season in a dominant car. Schumacher won the 2004 season in a dominant car. Vettel won the 2010 season in a dominant car. The same can be said for Alonso, Hamilton, and to some extent Hakkinen too. Button was a worthy champion, the fact the car was dominant is irrelevant as the same can be said for just about every champion for the past 10-15 years.
@JorjoLucas I agree with the guy earlier about the double diffuser, button will never be seen as a real world champion, just like Vettel wont either, noobs that won with a car miles better than the rest of the field, Hamilton and Alonso FTW
I remember crying when Sexy Michael won that race, it was a legendary performance.
He had a car that was maybe 1 second per lap slower than anyone else had, but his skills, the immense size of his genitalia, his looks, his smile, all those things helped him to win over others
@Fidelis94 mechanic? xD this is patrick head!! he was at that time the technical director of the williams team and should be well known. by the way stupid mistake from button
Like Martin Brundle as said, he didn't win since turkey, he won cause, he scored when he needed to while the others, blew there engines, me I'm not like some, example spanish, soon as Alonso is out they all leave, to me it wasn't boring because it wasn't just one or two team just winning in fact several different teams could have won atleast one race last year
The BARs were far ahead simply because many of the better drivers/cars were out of the race. Both Jordans, as well as Coulthard and Barrichello were out of the race at this point.
I would like to add, as a Dutchman, I felt this was an unfair way to slow down for a restart and I don't understand why no one blames Schumacher. When Hamilton was doing similar moves in Fuji, ending up with the crash between Webber and Vettel, he was flamed.
Villeneuve qualified 4th - hardly at the front due to "better" drivers and cars falling off. I'm cynical about JV's talent but fair credit to him for that. Zonta was 17th and made great progress in the race because of the crash. The only time in his career he drove like a star (thanks to a light fuel load).
Monza isnt a track like all others... Low downforce tracks usually make F1 race grids messed up. See with Force India in Spa and Monza. Just gotta have a good engine and an ok car grip and u can be in front.
Hey give Force India some credit, they had the better set up where the other didn't, and if Kimi didn't have the ****** curse thing, Fissy may have won in Monza
@hypersaiyangoku first of all they fought in spa not monza fisichella was at ferrari in monza. second of all kimi is one of the all time greats at spa winning 4 times and that says it all.
No your right, but it was Sutil, master of spa or not, without the stupid K.E.R.s thing the Force Indnas would over taken him, and I'm glad it's not coming back KERS
yeah ofcourse i knew the answer before i asked i just wanted to make sure. but lets open another subject. u think that last year was good lol! thank u for making me laugh. last year was so boring that at the last race that button won which was in turkey i felt that this is the end of f1 if drivers like jenson button a driver who was fighting with the force indias in the back became a contender for the champiosnhip. last year was so boring that iam still trying to forget about it
He was 3rd. I have the DVD of the 2000 season. Anyway, the crash at Monza 2000 was on he first lap. the SC was deployed on lap 2, so there was no time for him to be lapped.
I have a interview from a couple of drivers on my F1 2000 review DVD that disagrees with you mate. Schumacher was lambasted for his actions that day. Even the ITV commentators said what Schumacher did was stupid.
They probably said it was stupid due to the fact that it caused a Brit to go out of the race. The fact is, everyone did it back then but this one had an incident. The fact Schumacher was fined and not given a serious penalty reflects how it wasn't much of a big deal.
you have no idea of restart strats. its very common, that after the lights go out teh first behind the safety car is breaking and then, at his will, reaccelarate, so he is a little in advance.
i agree it was unsafe...but still i'm glad the FIA finally desided to stop that kind of behaviour...i wish that someone would install somekind of electronic gadget that is similar to RPM-limited...that way the drivers can keep the gap and when the danger is over they could just switched it off and nobody'd lose any time. i thing it wouldn't be so interesting but still.

The FIA should really do something to ensure a constant speed is maintained behind the safety car. Too many times things like this have happened, and it's really not in the interests of safety to allow it to continue.
Schumacher should be ashamed of some of the tactics he utilised on his path to being multiple world champ. As DC once said, he's a tainted champion.
what the fuck is wrong with you? it's not only schumacher that did that kind of "irritating stuff".. every fucking leader behind safety car did it...go fuck a cow
sheer luck brawn gp 2009 had double diffusor meant button drove a different car than the rest of the field, became a world champion without a fight.

Yeah, Patrick Head - a legend in F1 - is definitely not just a Mechanic! (Though to be a mechanic in F1 you have to be very skilled)!
He's got a degree in engineering, plus many years of "learning by doing" experience!
And yes, people should know such key persons!
It's clearly seen that button lacks routine here, with that very optimistic speed he tried to take that corner with!
But you live and learn!

Nice to see Schumacher once again playing games with other drivers lives.
Jenson did get caught out, souly because Schumacher was driving too slowly. He was fined by the FIA for this stunt.
Just another blot on his already tarnished career.

Button was asleep behind the wheel and it was entirely his own fault not MS.
