I have never seen "glow plugs" which look exactly like spark plugs, nor "glow plug leads" which are as thick as spark plug leads. Amazing for a gasoline engine to run without spark! Maybe the engine got so hot the gasoline started igniting by itself. And for everyone`s information, glow plugs on a diesel engine heat up for a while only when you turn the ignition on, they do not heat up when the engine is running.
@RiderLiving They looked like plug wires with rubber caps and they said it's still running without a distributor. However, It does indeed sound like a diesel though. i don't know. Don't care as it's now time FOR A NEW CAR!!!!! Badadahdh BLING BLING....
the throttle didn't stick open, it has no throttle. It's a diesel, and it's running on it's own engine oil, which as far as any diesel cares, hot motor oil is just as good as #2 diesel.
True indeed....Known as a run away diesel.. I saw a guy overfill the crank case with oil in a Detroit 6V53 Two stroke diesel... Needless to say, it ran away.... They got it stopped only by using a CO2 extinguisher and doused the intake.. That fucker was buzzing high..They were able to save the engine only because they got it shut off in time and knew what to do to shut it off... had they not it would have launched parts from here to mars
you can't really kill diesel on running, even when you take out the spark plugs (i know theese are not spark one but the different ones, cant remember ^^) and even when you take out the car battery the diesel will still work because it is high pressure engine so it doesnt explodes its fuel each time the cylinder reaches head gasket but it compresses the fuel and explodes it each time which makes it unkillable.. (i know that more than billion people will dont understand a word from what i said)
@TeamPlacki lol if you're talking about glowplugs, diesels really dont need them unless it's really cold, and when it's hot the glowplugs aren't even used at all when starting up or running, just heat from the compression. And if you disconnected the battery on an electronic injection pump system it will fail, unlike the diesel in this video which is fully mechanical.
@Andre609 i was talking about the old diesels already running :)
Like this one (probably) mostly full mechanical, you see.. with my passat if i take out the battery, everything dies because only mechanical things in it are the pistons and some other heavy parts ^^
@Andre609 i was talking about the old diesels already running :)

how can a car continue running if you pull out the spark plug wires?! you pull the wires, the spark plugs no longer receive spark from the coil, therefore no combustion for the cylinders?
@Dude13450 Can you recognize the shound? This is a diesel engine, spark plugs dont really make sparks, they just warm up the head before the start and then they dont do anything. The combustion starts because of the rising pressure in the combustion space, not because of sparks.
@Dude13450 Looks like a petrol engine to me too! old carburetor petrol engines can run on once the ignition is turned off, so long as the engine is turning it will suck in fuel and air and if there is some carbon build up in the cylinder or such, this can give enough heat to keep the engine running. (same way rc car engines work)
Had an old tuned mini that used to keep running but very lumpily once turned off, got in the habit of stalling it in gear as i turned the ignition off.
@SPUPRR definately a dies; gas does not run away... if it were a gas turning off the ignition/ pulling the plug wires would for sure kill it. Diesel runs off compression and heat no spark.
Taking the key out of the runaway doesn't stop a runaway, like the guy was saying below me to stop it you got to cover up all air inlet areas with something thick and heavy
In a petrol engine, like this engine, when it gets too hot, pre-ignition (detonation) takes over , you dont need spark plugs any more because the tips on the plugs are now glowing and the egine will keep running. You can stall it, spray some moisture in to the intake (beer) or fire a CO2 fire exti in to the manifold.
In a diesel engine non turbo, runaway is due to the engine burning to lube oil in the sump from the blow by. Old Toyota L and 2L were bad for this. Most ppl push in the clutch only to make the engine explode. Stand on the brake in gear to bring the revs down. If a turbo seal blows the lube oil is sprayed into the intake and will do the same thing.
Throttle body stuck open? I dont know much about VW but I've never heard of a diesel with a throttle valve.. I like marcinex22 response tho.. one easy way to blow up a clutch haha
@KopfmacheR6 Your right.. it's not a diesel, fair enough. and ya i should watch the whole vid before i comment even tho i know exactly what happens when you dump the clutch on a runaway. But consider this.. Take that coffee, splash it in your face, then shove the down your throat. That way the next you feel cool reading, writing, or speak german on an english site, you wont be able to...
@axgtsimi, it's clearly running on it's own engine oil, the only way to stop it by putting a piece of wood over the air cleaner inlet, never do that with your hands, never know if it shoots flames back to the air inlet
Diesel run away is when the bearing oil seal on the turbo blows on the compressor side. Engine oil is fed into the air intake and is injected into the engine and burns. When your engine oil is all used up boom goes the engine.
I've had a diesel VW runaway on me but never heard of or seen a gasser run away like that. The best way to stop it is to put it in its top gear, hold alot of pressure on the brakes and release the clutch. I was going down the freeway at 65 MPH when my diesel ran away on me. I just pulled off the shoulder left it in 5th and held down hard on the brakes.
lol@1:05~ it got spark even after you ripped its wires out ! its a german car ,it should like its beer !@1:27 thats alcohol abuse, don't drink and drive
How can that run with no spark!? My Dirtbike did that once though, I hit the kill switch when it started up with the throttle stuck wide open and it stayed on for a few seconds?
It's not a stuck throttle. Under certain conditions VW gas engines of that era can start sucking the oil out of the valve cover and actually run on it like a diesel. That;s why it was smoking so bad and running with no plug wires. Mid-late 80's Audi's had bad problems with this causing accidents.
Fine! The crappy plug wires were decoys to confuse the difference between gas and diesel in runaway by a bunch of smartasses.
