We could have comprimised and implemented a far superior bill that combined the strengths and weaknesses of both plans but it's too late for that now... Instead we got a "save the face of the President and the Democrat Party" bill since it would have been a major embarrassment for them not to pass something.
The only "benefit" is going to be giving more people health insurance. But we could have done that in much smarter ways. The liberal media and Democrats claimed that the Republicans didn't offer alternative proposals. But that simply isn't true. The Republican plan was far more centered around reducing costs based on conservative princibles such as encouraging competition between health insurers and reforming health related lawsuits but the Democrats flatout refused to even consider them.
Small businesses - who create the majority of jobs - and the middle and lower classes are especially going to get screwed by these new taxes. We're basically going to be coming under assualt from 2 different directions now. On one side we're going to be coming under attack from rising health care bills and on the other side we're going to be coming under attack from higher taxes.
This bill was just atrocious. It was essentially a natonwide version of the failed Massachusetts health care system which has done absolutely nothing to reduce health care costs and has bankrupted their state budget. Without bailouts from the federal government they wouldn't have been able to provide essential services to patients according to their state treasurer. So who's going to bailout the budget of the federal government? We are with huge increases in taxes.

Ill tell you what, free healthcare in the UK is brilliant. People complain about it because their only used to that way of life. But its not a financial worry for everyone to be insured and you get quality service (sometimes wait a little longer than you would like), but i've been hospital 2/3 times, mostly for broken bones, and the care has been brilliant. Everyone who buys health insurance is paying for their "neighbors, friends, family, even people" they don't know. The only ones who AREN'T contributing are the people that don't have health insurance. What this bill does is FORCE them to get it, under threat of fines, and if they can't pay the fines, imprisonment as a tax evader.
If you REALLY wanted to make health care less expensive, how about removing some of the laws and entitlements that make it so expensive?
I agree the system needs to be changed, i feel this is only a first step. We cannot rely on people to all way's do what is best for them, unfortunately. This is why we have public education. If we did not have public education for instance many of us would be totally ignorant. Just like education this is going to even the playing field for many of the citizens here, to at least have some of the same basic opportunity's as the rich elite.

if you think about it a large number of college students are uninsured including me. its hard to pay off student loans and insurance so it would benefit the future workforce as well but i do agree that we shouldn't support irresponsible/ lazy people

The only "benefit" is going to be giving more people health insurance. But we could have done that in much smarter ways. The liberal media and Democrats claimed that the Republicans didn't offer alternative proposals. But that simply isn't true. The Republican plan was far more centered around reducing costs based on conservative princibles such as encouraging competition between health insurers and reforming health related lawsuits but the Democrats flatout refused to even consider them.

We're basically going to be coming under assualt from 2 different directions now. This bill was just atrocious. It was essentially a natonwide version of the failed Massachusetts health care system which has done absolutely nothing to reduce health care costs and has bankrupted their state budget. Without bailouts from the federal government they wouldn't have been able to provide essential services to patients according to their state treasurer. So who's going to bailout the budget of the federal government? We are with huge increases in taxes.

Ill tell you what, free healthcare in the UK is brilliant. People complain about it because their only used to that way of life. But its not a financial worry for everyone to be insured and you get quality service (sometimes wait a little longer than you would like), but i've been hospital 2/3 times, mostly for broken bones, and the care has been brilliant. I think this is a huge step in the right direction for the US!

Everyone who buys health insurance is paying for their "neighbors, friends, family, even people" they don't know. The only ones who AREN'T contributing are the people that don't have health insurance. What this bill does is FORCE them to get it, under threat of fines, and if they can't pay the fines, imprisonment as a tax evader.
If you REALLY wanted to make health care less expensive, how about removing some of the laws and entitlements that make it so expensive?

I agree the system needs to be changed, i feel this is only a first step. We cannot rely on people to all way's do what is best for them, unfortunately. This is why we have public education. If we did not have public education for instance many of us would be totally ignorant. Just like education this is going to even the playing field for many of the citizens here, to at least have some of the same basic opportunity's as the rich elite.
