  • You can get most video game songs in midi format on vgmusic dot com. ...but the videos add a lot of nostalgia value for me. ...and the midis don't work on an ipod. ^_^

  • BARF!

  • grr, didn't play the cafe music, been looking for that.

  • When I was a kid I actually recorded the music on a tape recorder to listen to. Needless to say, my parents were less than thrilled as they not only had to listen to hours of 8-bit music while I played RCR, but also badly recorded 8-bit music from a tape recorder.

  • @poptarder

AAAAHHH!!! I used to do the same thing!!! Now I don't feel so crazy, bro!

  • @poptarder That is awesome...I had the Mega Man 2 soundtrack on tape and one vacation I got to pick what we listened to and I made my parents listen to MM2...they hated it...I enjoyed it...good times.

  • Did anyone else here used to get hungry when reading the menu at the café?

  • make sure you beat ALL of the bosses. if you didn't you ain't gettin in

  • Hm, interesting. Could be that I overlooked a boss or two. I don't have a NES anymore though, but I'll surely test this sometime by using a ROM. Thanks!

  • The virtual console is the most enjoyable version today...

  • Even better than the GBA Version RCR EX?

  • @JonnyRello yeah i think so just due to the fact that you usually can't beat the classics and i think ex took away too many elements that made the original great

  • I haven't noticed anything they took out on EX besides actual 2 player. I only noticed minor additions and some changeups.

  • that is nostalgia talking, since the original kunio kun games in Japan is far more like RCR EX than the original american RCR is.

  • i knwo this was an old post but some of the Boss' don't show up the first run through you actually have to backtrack

  • The GENERIC DUDES turf.

  • Best Beat 'em up ever. Hell they used the style of this game for the show Code Monkeys.

  • lol they used the same models as in world cup soccer :D

i like the sounds they make when hit *barff!* :P

  • That's because Technos made this and NWC. They also made Double Dragon (they helped with 1), Super Spike V'Ball and Super Dodge Ball. They all rule!

  • That would be Atlus that made Super Dodge Ball btw.

  • That would be Atlus that made Super Dodge Ball btw.

  • oh wait. Atlus made the Advance Super Dodge Ball ok then. (Hmm I still like that one more than the SNES one)

  • Yes. And Axis Games made "Super Dodge Ball Brawlers" (not AS good as the others).

  • how did you get this music?

  • eat the swordfish!

  • Dragon Feet And Stone hands Bitch!!

  • This is by far the funniest 8-bit game ever. I love this game dearly. BARF!! MAMA!!

  • i have & beat this game

  • holy crap, 2:02 it's Slick's fight theme, that's one badass dude with badass music, those were great times.

  • Never played this game, but looks like they are the players from the NES game Nintendo World Cup!

  • I'm pretty sure it was made by the same people.

  • yes indeed, Technos Japan, the same that makes Double Dragon, that's why your hear a theme for the twins in this game, it's the one from Double Dragon, they actually have the same moves

  • yep, same company made the two games, actually world cup came after river city, that's why you see the players getting hit with tackles and make those funny faces

  • The same company made this game, world cup, super dodge ball and a later nes game called Crash N the Boys Street Challenge. I feel like I'm forgetting one though.

  • *barf*maama*heeelp*

  • Mega 64 has a hilarious interpretation of this game. XD

  • ya, that video was hilarious. Barf.

  • Miss this game, had a code for doing flip attacks.

  • Love what you guys are doing, keep it up!

  • 4:11 lmao.

  • hell yeah this game was Badass

  • Yep, missing that song when you fight a normal boss.

  • I typically only select a few tracks from the games I feature, although admittedly this one is more bare than it should be. I'll be posting another vid for the PC Engine of RCR, and that one is closer to 10 minutes in length and sports some CD quality rearrangements.

  • where can i download the songs?? And I'm not talking about the GBA versions.

  • i played this game one time when i was six me and my sister(shes older than me) we got to a green room and she died and then i dropped my controller lolz

i always used to pick her up(i was always alex) and throw her character(forgot his name think its ryan) off the edge lolz

  • I loved thisgame back inthe day when My sis and i were using the nintendo. she still has it,just wish icould get my hands on that game :)

  • BARF!

  • Another popular one I didn't play in the past. Music is Double Dragon-esque along with the gameplay similarities. This may be the first US NES game to show bare ass, but what kind of accomplishment is that, except disturbing players nationwide.

  • That's because river city is made by technos-japan, the developers of double dragon. It just wasn't published by Acclaim so you may not have noticed.

Just before fighting the last boss your characters come across twins who do the roundhouse kick and the double dragon theme runs in the background. It's not just a coincidence! I can't remember for certain, but i think their names appear as Billy and Jimmy too...

  • Cool to know, thanx. Sure it wasn't Bimmy & Jimmy?

  • lol Bimmy and Jimmy is classic! DD3!

I just put in River City again recently and the twins are named Randy and Andy. Their cyclone kick is wicked deadly

  • This game REALLY SHINES on GBA. Play this more than my DS games.

  • My cousin and I used to play this game for HOURS.

This game was way ahead of its time... just those long ass passwords took forever to write down and never f'n worked.

  • best damn old school game i ever played
