Hi Mike, I just copped this lesson. I gave it a shot. Of the three of us, you played best. Ted was second. And, I came in a distant third !! Happy spring brotherman !
This is in my guitar instruction playlist now. Gee...now Brownie and Nestor want guitars too! Thaddi just climbs down my guitar strings and looks in the sound hole.......occasionally plucks a string. We're all making music.......... well, sort of.......we know about breaking the rules all right! We can't even figure out what they are most of the time .....hhe he....
lol.. this was such a long time ago.. i could do a guitar lesson for every song i have played and double my play list.. the fun is getting along without knowing the rules.. then your free.. nothing to break..
@ichingiching lol ...oh please don't double your playlist that way. I am constantly told by a certain person I need to learn the proper way to play music....yet I always seem to find self taught players the most interesting. I once asked a very famous english musician who had come thru here whether he was was formally trained or not. He told me that regardless of whether you have a teacher or not, you basically teach yourself. Play on Mike. It is so inspiring.
Its a very brave .. or foolish person that would ever think there is a 'proper way' to play music. Each and everyone has a heart that is unique and so too with music .. or any of the arts.. a teacher is as only as good as the person who wants to learn..
hi artbymegcom .. many thanks.. I'm not sure if many do get this vid.. thats the message.. not about my guitar playing.. just having fun with a bit of wood and six strings.. regards and thanks for a perseptive note.. Mike
Thanks for the tips ! The explanation of the thumb rock/ripple finger actions was really good. Highly enjoyable video, especially as you emphasise that it needs to be FUN most of all. ...and the democracy of music (ie if you put the time in, you get the rewards.Money makes no difference if you don't work at it). Cheers for posting, Jim
Hi Jim.. thats kind to reply to my vid.. i like the idea of democracy of music.. and of course it has to be fun.. music can't be anything otherwise.. take care.. cheers Mike
You're actually a very good guitar player, but when you show us the licks can you do them in slow mo for all us slow learners to catch on. A good video and thanks for sharing some tips with us....i'm off to practice
hope you enjoyed your practice.. I know what you mean.. I'm not a good teacher even though I taught in college most of my life.. I did slow down for the video ?? and looking back I think its why I only tried one lesson.. hope you always enjoy playing.. Mike
if u don't do tabs and don't read music, why is there a music stand with a book on the background????
for this interesting observation any chance of a sally free and easy guitar lesson, nothing fancy just enough to actually see what you are doing. you have enough request for that song.
How about a series of Guitar Basics? So generous of you for sharing ur knowledge. Do you like the OUD? I am starting to learn this old, beautiful instrument.. I have an English teacher in Dubai who's almost as good as you. He's very patient w/ my small son--and with me, too.
hi samrx.. I haven't forgotten your comment.. yes I would like to do a fun series of how to play guitar basics.. I shall build it in over the summer once I get some other things out of the way.. peace..m
LOL excellent couldnt do much for laughing, but got into it once you got serious i think!! SO that C E F G D whats the others hehe OMG A7 so you do know cords.. thanks for the insruction. I can now play it honest..wheres my video to record it
thanks Billiebigalo.. I surpose I should be a bit more serious like every other teaching video.. but what the heck.. I'm only passsing by once.. glad it made you laugh ... and maybe pick somthing up thats helpful.. it really is a condensed version of thirty years of having fun.. cheers Mike
Contrary to some here who are expecting i'm not sure what, I don't know how to read music for guitar and learn by ear and by watching others play while jamming. This actually really, really helped me as someone who is just getting the knack of fingerpicking. Thanks Ichingiching, always entertaining and fun.
Thanks Auzzin I should do this again but cut out the beginning.. I've grown up since this one.. I'd like to think that I did try to pass on some sound advice.. you got it spot on.. listening and jamming.. its the hard yards but actually not that difficult.. cheers Mike
Thanks fo rthose astute words...thats the point, I'm not teaching anything.... its like an anti lesson really. it probably takes knowledge away..I haven't got a clue how to teach guitar..
bravo. I am going to take my first lesson with you, but I don't understand what you say. If I could play like you. I have always tryed but now, I don't play except when I try for my little son but he prefers drums..... Merci, je suis heureuse d'avoir trouvé votre sit. Dorebul
again, here is Liz, just to let you know I have passed this "lesson" on to, let me see, 3 people, one in America, two here in Germany. Maybe it will come back to you from far-off places ! Have a good day.
Thanks for the update. Hope it all goes well. We are all on the same ladder of learning, some are just further on.. give it time and always have fun...M:)
You are a guitar teacher after my own heart! I also play by ear, so I was able to follow you easily! You'd be a gas to live next door to! Your laughter is infectious!
Great lesson. I understood everything you did. Unfortunatly my fingers did not. I think I lack the four virtues you quoted at the end. Also I'm lazy! However I will persevere.
Great stuff! I always wanted to know on what end of the guitar I was playing! Had a lot of fun with your free lesson and seriously think you ought to consider a guitar-teaching career. Thanks a lot! Pass it on, pass it on!
Mike, this makes me want to pick up my guitar (which I have told you belongs to another life) and just go for it. If you really are a ghost, then the spirit world must be a rocking place to be! A great lesson, fired with your enthusiasm. You are a great teacher. I'm ready to give it a go now. Can't believe I just logged on (sneakily at work!)and got this free lesson. Will watch it again...with my guitar. Beautiful. xx
