  • thanks for the laugh

  • LOL. I thought I was the only one with the problems, because I was not strong enough. Immersing the buckets in water has loosened them for me. Also, when one person turns the bucket in a clockwise direction, and another tries to turn the bucket in the opposite direction, the rotation often separates the buckets. Thanks for your great posts. I am recommending that a friend buy his juicer from you :) Out of appreciation for all the valuable information that you share. Blessings

  • This is freakin awesome! I never knew you could reuse a bucket! WOW!

(I used to troll on YT, then I took an arrow in the knee)

  • Whats the rock dust do?

To help separate the buckets pour soap around the stuck edge, then shove a flat-head screwdriver in between the buckets... helps save the fingers :) Also if suction is holding them together, drill a hole in the bottom bucket to allow air flow

  • CAROL SMILLIE

  • You can take the buckets apart if you apply heat to the outside bucket.

  • Damn. That girl has bigger muscles than me lol. I have noodle arms XD

  • Put the buckets in a barrel of hot water then fill the inside one with ice water.

They will pull apart no problem.

  • Some kind of nut-butter.

  • Another idea for the bucket is to place under an AC window unit to collect drops of water from condensation. It's great!

  • For watering small trees/plants, drill a small hole 1/16 inch or less in the side as close to the bottom as you can, place near the small plant to be watered. Fill bucket with water and walk away.............It will slowly trickle onto the base of the plant, no run-off or waste............come back and refill later.

  • Buckets also make great hats.

  • hehe That was cool man. ; ) I need like 50 of those! lol They also make great portable chairs, and I used to use them buildng bikes or motors.. not 1 screw or washer gets lost. : D Lee Valley actually makes a tool belt that fits on buckets too! Nice tug of war too..lol I thought for sure someone was goin flyin!

  • ROFLMAO!! HAHAHAHA...

that was too funny...CLEAN YOUR BUCKETS BEFORE STORING... :)

  • drill a hole in the bottom of it, between both buckets if u can, its the air that locks them. they'll come apart easy as pie !

  • You can also make self watering planters with 5 gallon buckets as well. There is a couple of good youtube videos out by globalbuckets. They have a website too. Its by a couple of kids that seem to have the same mission as you (encourage people to grow their own food).

  • Do you have a big backyard?

  • I LOVE YOUR GARDEN AND ALL YOUR TIPS AND TRICKS !!! You rock...

  • Hi! Tanks so much for all your videos, I have a question about what you use to protect , to seal the wood of your reised beds. I really don't know what to use , I live in Utah and the winters here are horrible so I need to protect my new reised beds . Thanks so much again!!!:)

  • can you drill holes on the bottom bucket to release the pressure? so it will come out

  • I have a question. I want to do raised beds but quite frankly I cannot afford the dirt. Can you think of anyway to beet that problem?

  • Use the soil in your yard, you can double-dig it and put it into a raised bed.

  • @growingyourgreens You can also do soil building. Pretty much you put manure and compost in your natural soil that is in your price range. Every season or you do this and over time your soil will greatly improve. It takes longer but it will be in your price range...AND you also know whats going into your soil, your veggies, then you!

  • check with your local yard waste center. Many take leaves, grass clippings and compost it. This is then readily available for local residents for free. I live near Green Bay Wisconsin which has two such centers where you can go and get as much compost as you need.

  • Check to see if your area has a yard waste center. I live near Green Bay Wisconsin which has a couple yard waste centers where grass clippins and leaves are disposed of and composted. The composted dirt is then available to residents free of charge.

  • why did you waste those coconuts? coconut cream!

  • They were bad.

  • @growingyourgreens In England we would tie the to trees for the birds to eat....

  • @suerowe53 ...referring to the coconuts...

  • Good video!!! Growing veggies in a bucket, do you need holes in the bottom?

  • Yes, you will for drainage.

  • Great video really enjoyed it well done:))

  • Great videos, and entertaining too! I've only seen a few so far, but as a new gardener, I'm really looking forward to viewing them all. Thank you John!

  • for fertilizer i use compost and turtle poo

  • You are the greatest, dude. A society that can't see the metaphorical potential of a single medium is a wasteful society.

  • ha, ha,. how many 'gardeners and 'helpers' do you have. do you actually do any work or is your girlfriend the real muscle..lol?

i use aluminum five gallon buckets.

you can flip the plastic buckets upside down pour hot water on the outside one and then use your feet to separate them.

you guys need to eat more spinich...lol.

  • Wow,never even thought of used buckets, would not use one for dog food but if it had some sort of food in it, it sure would be good for tomatoes.

  • I have similar old agave nectar buckets all over my house that I use for the same things. The only one of these uses that I have not done is the dog food as our dog only eats fresh raw food and no dried food.

My wife even cut up some of these buckets to use when she made a cat tree for our kittens.

Yep, stacking the buckets when they are moist is not a great idea! LOL

  • funny

  • Hilarious ending with the bucket tug-of-war!

  • You can fit two or two and a half human heads in one of those buckets I think. :)

  • I also use them as a stool to sit or stand on. Good video as always

  • I look for buckets in my neighbor's trash and I am using them for planting now. I have got at least 10 so far, but I am finding I am needing more and more every time I start planting in them.

  • i guess ill take that as a no? whatever. it's not impotant to me anyway so just keep on making those vids! ;)

  • are you a vegitarian? im just curious cause thoughout all your vids, ya always talk about eating vegies for meals and stuff.

  • Yes, I would be considered a dietary vegetarian. The majority of my diet consists of fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which I have grown :)

  • Is that Tiffany at the end wresteling with the bucket and Sage? That is true about the buckets getting stuck like that. Some how you need to break the tension between them to get them apart.

  • Yes, that is her.

  • You should show Tiffany once in a while. She does great camera work. Great info as always!

  • She does make appearances now and then

  • hey john.. your always in front of the camera. who is behind it?? James.

  • Tiffany filmed this one.

  • I use a bucket in my kitchen for kitchen scraps ... take out each week to bury it in the backyard near the garden.

  • When you use the roof for rain water catching, do you need to worry about asphalt roofing? I've heard that it's not good for edible plants to use water that's run over asphalt.

  • Yes, I do. I have heard people have tested their water and it had little contamination from the asphalt.. But I guess it also depends on what condition your roof is in.

  • why don't you use some oil around the edge?

  • A bucket of nut butter? thats alot of nut butter lol. sorry i just couldnt resist.

Great info i didnt know that about willow.

yeah the more buckets ya have the more you'll use.

  • John, I had to lol a few times with your enthusiasm for buckets. Yay for the goofy side.

  • How many gardeners does it take to make me laugh my head off...3!!!

Hey I was just researching buckets yesterday. I have tons of clean paint buckets, but I don't think they are food grade. Is the plastic different or is the worry chemical residues, left behind.

How about making your own upside down tomato planter. Drill a hole for the toma to grow out the bottom, then the top can be planted with herbs like basil for a living mulch. Use the handle to hang it!

  • the Bubba Gump of buckets has spoken!

  • lol!!!! you've gone bucket crazy!!! I think I'll be on the lookout for bucks now =D

  • That is one happy guy who's excited about his buckets! =D

I have a ton of 5 gallon buckets, and they get used for everything. I got all mine free from bakeries and places like that.

  • another use...you can make an aeroponic bucket and grow something in water (with nutrients of course)! You can grow carrots and potatoes too!

  • Great video! I'm on a smaller scale so I reuse plastic coffee cans. ;)

  • I dumpster dive for buckets all of the time.

  • Sometimes it's the simple ideas you get for videos that I like the most... like this one. Simple but totally entertaining.

And, ps... it majorly irks me all the great things like this that restaurants & grocers throw away! Wish we lived in a world where everything had 1st chance @ reuse rather than automatic insert into the trashbin.

  • you should buy some land alot of acres and farm that all you need is a tractor to till
