I know Steamboat used Sirius by APP as his entrance theme on WM 3 (an undisputed fact), but I really really want THIS WWE-edited entrance theme for "The Dragon". Can someone please help me with a link or something?
@mvst925 - Originally, Steamboat came out to the Alan Parsons Project's "Sirius" back in the day. I was in high school when this match took place. He'd been coming to the ring to that music for a while before this match...and it became more popular as the Chicago Bulls were starting NBA basketball games with this as their "spotlight introduction" song. I guess the "WWE edited" version of this match couldn't pay the royalty bills for this song.
anybody ever notice how loose the ropes were back then compared to today? just seems a little odd to me. but i geuss they use the ropes alot more today, may have somethin to do with it.
@stubby42642 from what i understand they used to use ropes, but now they have a sort of steel cable encased in plastic as the ropes, it gives better bounce and is more stable for jumping off ropes
I just read on line how detailed and choreographed this match was compared to the on the fly, make it up as you go, match up during this time. They spent hours in Randys backyard going over the fight to the smallest detail. After the match Randy and the Dragon was hugging all the wrestlers backstage. This was the start of the Rockin 80's era when wrestlers became house hold, mainstream, world super stars.
Steamboat always had the best theme song (Sirius by The Alan Parsons Project). I loved him! HOWEVER... I just found out, thanks to wikipedia, that his real name was... are you ready for this?
they dont make em like the macho man anymore...rip randy...you were the best. makes you realise how ridiculously crap the wwf is today...cant believe its the same company.
@Reggiekillabeast LOL You are so profoundly stupid that I can't believe you were bold enough to post that comment. What does WM 25 & WM 26 have to do with the ongoing events after WM3 which was after fucking 1987 dumbass? WM25 & WM 26 were special appearances for Steamboat in 2009 & 2010................I can't believe you were bold & stupid enough to make those two events relevant to the peak of Steamboat's career in the late 80s & early 90s.
Lost in the greatness of the wrestling is Jesse the body Ventura. Watching this made me realize how good of a WWF color announcer he was. I think WWE would be much better now if they brough back Jesse the Body to be the color guy. Pure genious!!
Steamboat and Macho Man were two of my favorites back then. I was 10 when this aired in 1987. I remember all the hype about Hogan Vs Andre and this match completely stole the show.
I was so happy Steamboat won. I taped this on a VHS tape (wish I knew what happened to it) and probably watched this match 30 to 40 times. One of my all time favorites.
RIP Macho Man a true LEGEND and no doubt a Hall of Famer!
By far, the best match I've ever seen! This is a shortened version. These two got into the squared circle and threw everything but the kitchen sink at each other for a solid hour. Never see a match this good again...
Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat helped revolutionize modern pro-wrestling. Both showed fast pace matches and athleticism that was groundbreaking. Before Wrestlemania III, matches where usually long matches that involved hold after hold for an extended period of time.
FACT: The reason you never really saw Steamboat in any more high profile matches after this one was because weeks later, Steamboat requested some time off to be with his pregnant wife, and as a result, WWE management angrily kept him in low-profile matches instead of pushing him further. Steamboat never got pushed in the first place, so WM3 was unexpected for him & as a result, he one-upped the main event which explained why management was furious with him when he took time off.
@PopCulture20 Steamboat said WWE was really looking to depend on him after WM 3, and he was supposed to be the longest IC Champion ever, until he asked for time off. WWE ended up giving the title of "Longest IC Champion in History" to The Honky Tonk Man. But that's why they were angry with him. Because he and Savage stole the show at WM 3, one-upping the main event, and WWE tried to take advantage of this, but then Steamboat backed out to be with his wife.
@hbk2hhh WCW was a different company at the time before it merged with WWE years later and plus WCW stars were treated with actual respect from what I hear.
One of the greatest heels/wrestlers of all time. What an ability to draw heat! His ability to incite the crowd and his unparalleled athleticism will forever secure his place in the upper eschelan of sports entertainment. A part of my childhood has been ripped away.
Agreed about the no need for TLC, classic wrestling with simple story lines. At least he is a wrestling that didn't die in his 30's from drug misuse or shoot his wife.
This is what wrestling should be today.... FUN and Engaging. Not this kiddie pop crap on WWE today.... RIP Macho Man.. thanks for the years of entertainment!
This was truly a Wrestle Mania Main Event type of match with two of the best Pro Wrestlers ever going at it. In a Championship Match and it wasn't even the Main Event.
