haha as soon as she says she hasnt seen that many galaxies in her life that beast took off like a rocket, you dont see that very often in stock cars today. but with technology we employ smaller and lighter engines and still get that horsepower. fuel injection forced induction newer alloys etc. i guess i just dont truly appreciate cars of today... they all look the same. streamline is cool and all but an SS nova is streamline and still looks meaner than any car made now
What kind of car do you race? If you live near Great Lakes Dragway let me know when you will be racing your car there (or Byron if you prefer) and you can show me your expertise in doig a burnout -OR- maybe I can show show you what I have shown a lot of Chebbys ... my taillights.
I can tell I'm conversing with the "real deal", ragin'roadrunner. That's really interesting what you said about the drawbacks of the 406. I guess I fell in love with that motor when I was an early teen. Some guy drove a yellow 2dr. Galaxie fastback next to me in the gas pump bays and shut her down. He lifted the hood, and there all chromed out was that gorgeous 3-deuce shiny engine. He shut the hood, kissed his palm, then put his palm on top of the closed hood and winked at me. I was HOOKED!
Suspension is stock except lighter springs and 90/10 adjustable shocks in the front and +1" springs, Cal-Trac bars and QA1 adjustable shocks in the rear. Rear tires are 15x10" Goodyear Eagle slicks
AWESOME AWESOME Galaxie, I have a 63 boatop with a 406 toploader that has been in my family since 79. And I have a 64 Gal. 2dr post Custom that we have plans for a Gasser. Not sure what motor yet. LOVE them Big Ass Fords and Nasty powerplants. Old Fords never die they just go faster...JP
@JPmixet For some reason, I've always had this weird fixation on those 406 tri-power motors they had in those Galaxies back in what, 62-64? It seems as if they never got much magazine coverage back in the day, and no one builds them today much either. Were they dogs....or just not too plentiful, given the short build run?
@naderchaser...We ran the 390 Intercepter , the 406 and 4 427's in the 60's...the 427 was by far a monster that came in several configurations.. ..it had better head selection...what hurt the 406 was the cylinder heads, and NHRA rules limited it to just one camshaft. It did very well, however with todays cams and aluminum heads the 427's would be the ultimate engine. The 406 was not a crossbolted block which limited its horsepower. The monster was the 427 "Tunnel Port".
find you a 390 crankshaft and do the swap or for some real options look up survival motorsports for a strocker kit that will put your 352 into the 445cu in class at only a .40 over bore, running chevy rods and pistons on newlly developed scat stroker crank, yep 445 cu inches look up survival motorsports
@jamesmrmechanic ...back in the sixties Ford would not let just anybody have access to their exotic engines. You had to be somebody or know someone at Ford. They are that way to this day. They want only the best qualified people to have their cars for performance. Jack Rousch has helped change that and Ford has remained on top. Ford's ability to develop massive horsepower is awesome if not restricted by management.
64 are my favorite year and Da Grove my favorite track, Won many motorcycle races there with Winnie for Strange Engine Service in the 70's. ALso go in trouble for running fuel on a regular sunday with a top fuel Harley.
All the crap I used to hear about "fix or repair daily". This was never my experience with any Ford. It was more like "first On Race Day", as you well know. I allways liked G.T.O., "get the tools out".
From your "man I miss home" commentI assume you might be in the military? If so my thanks and best wishes. The AFTERSHOCK Galaxie really started as my dream in 1969 when I was in Viet Nam. It took me 35 years to actually make it happen. Good news is when I drive her or work on her I'm 19 years old again.
well..i did 4 years in the navy, im still in virginia, hopefully i'll be heading home this weekend in time for harley fest..also i need to finish building my engine and drop it in my Monte Carlo..
Nothing like the roar of a vintage Ford. My God, that sounds good! Sound is a integral part of the experience and cars that go ne-ne-ne-ne-ne don't do it for me.
got 324 at the tire on my old 390 look up the video responses under badass 427 galaxie.. old blue ford truck 1976 with a 390 got it to run 12.76 in the quarter.

Nice cars. You can either restore it, turn it into a race car like I did, or just drive it and have fun. Whatever you decide good luck.

My older brother had Green 64 2 door with a 390 4spd. He used to take me to the track in the early 70's to watch him race.
He also had a 3 deuce's on it But I dont know if that was a factory option.
His best friend use to run a 63 Impala with a 409. Sure was great watching them race.
I stll remember falling asleep in the back seat when My brother and friends were getting the car ready for the local drag meet late at nite
Thx for the Video! Sure brings back great Memories.

Her best time is 11.54 @ 115.30. I run D/NSS which is 11.50 index so I need to find about a tenth to be competitive.

Love it. Old school vs. new school, or better yet, brute force vs. high tech. I only got about 315hp from a 390, but it was still fun.
