I'm gay and I agree with him, to a point, assuming what he says is correct. It makes no sense to punish simple pushing or smacking someone with a handbag as a hate crime. It's also troublesome that specific fetishes and pedophilia would be protected.

Where I disagree with him is that gays are at an increased risk and do need stronger protection to help deter physical violence based on sexual orientation. I've never heard of anyone being assaulted of killed because he was straight.

What gets me is pedophilia may be wrong, but I do not wish to control a person's mind. No one may act on impure thought like that, but to physically harm someone for having the idea is ideologically wrong. Pedophilia is a fetish, not an orientation. You can't know or control someone's thoughts, but if someone sexually abused a child of mine I'd be apt to do them great physical harm.
