Contrary to popular belief, Rhodesia never had apartheid. A seat on a park bench, bus or airplane was for anyone. Shops, swimming pools and bars were not segregated and it was common to see blacks in them. One-third of all students at the universities were Africans who were studying on government scholarships. I'm not saying things were ideal; black incomes were much lower than white ones but there was a large black middle class and no one went hungry. Today's Zimbabwe is failed state.

@kenlove32 Sadly, it's not just Mugabe's fault. In 1979, there were open elections and the winner was Rev. Abel Muzorewa, an African, but because he had the support of the white community, the British refused to recognize the results. In their minds, only a radical extremist like Mugabe truly represented the aspirations of the African majority. It's damn hypocritical now for the Brits to condemn Mugabe's crimes. Hell, it's because of them that he's in power!

Very much like your midwest, where roads were built for large carriages to turn in. Loads of space so it was sprawled out instead of compact like london. Make no mistake about it, the treason regimes in the West fostered and foisted this tragedy, which was/is IMO a National security issue, and thusly if IMO England and rest of the English speaking Nations were not ruled by shadow regime enemy aliens Rhodesian Whites and Blacks would never have suffered, but prospereda and the pubic commons would have over flowed with civility and pride of living Free as one can in any Nation in the History of man! Hail Rhodesia
Rhodesia was once a great nation where black and whites lived and enjoyed life where people came to vitness its beauty. Now we watch the horrible fall of Zimbabwe ZANU-PF Robert Mugabe has destroyed what was a beautful nation and driven it to the ground as we listen to this old fool blame everyone else for his misstakes God only knows what is left for Zimbabwe. Take a page from Nelson Mandelas book Mugabe Forgive the unforgivable so you can move on in peace stop this madness now!.
Such a beautiful country with so many wonderful things to offer Africa and the rest of the world. If only the "reign of terror" that has held a grip on Zimbabwe for to long can some how be broken for the better of all that live there. I hope that those who were forced to leave the country of their birth regardless of color are one day able to return without fear of attack and reprisals. I hope that one day Rhodesia / Zimbabwe can be a peaceful and prosperous place. Happy memories to you all.
It is obvious that Zim can be prosporous because it WAS. The only thing that has chasnged is the people in charge. Yes, Ian Smith was an asshole of the greatest extent, but at least the country was doing well. EVERYBODY was much better off financially and technologically under him (running water, electricity) than they are now. There is an obvious way to fix the mess, but until Uncle Bobby gets knocked off or dies, it won't come.
Zim is such a lost opportunity, and I hope it can be fixed.
Zimbabwe is at its worst, but i would honestly rather go hungry than be subjected to the cruetly black people suffered during colonisation. Those days were evil and no one deserves that kind of treatment. No one deserves to be treated with hatred because of their skin colour. What happened during the land reform was inhumane and i was for the first time embarrassed of my own people. Zimbabwe is a beautiful country... I pray one day it will be a home again to all Zimbabweans both black and white.
Totally agree with veezim. I've lived in both systems and I know what I value most, certainly not what we had before 1980. But then again it all depends on your perspective.
@veezim if you did some reading and stopped listening to what your marxist teachers tell you, youd learn that both black and white had equal rights in rhodesia, you could only vote if you were EDUCTATED not if you were black or white, the entire of africas problems have been caused by uneducated fools voting for corrupt war mongers that are taking advantage of them, and rhodesia needs to be restored, weather you like it or not.
@veezim Funny thing..I grew up with Black Rhodesians..great people.. either they were incredible actors or they were not very unhappy at all...Maybe it suits some to pretend it was all doom and gloom..
@veezim That's not factual. They did not suffer under "colonial" rule - now they are in a genocide. Many long to have white majority rule again as things were so much better then and I would think by now people have learned to share and be at one with one another, regardless of race or skin colours. They were not treated inhumanely in fact the so-called "freedom fighters" killed their own race and committed atrocities indescribable.

Zims will be great again, the people (both black & white) are hard workers and spirited. When old Bob kicks the bucket I do think we will have a new dawn. Even for ZANU's rural supporters things must be getting fairly bad now.
Wondering if it's safe for white people to even visit Rhodesia/Zimbabwe today? I see America collapsing around me due to pandering to dysfunctional people - hoping we put a stop to this non sense before it's too late.
Watching this video and listerning to this beat reminds me of what truly Africa is. Its a pitty that most debate always dilapidate into a frenzy of racial verbal diarrhea. I am black but also realize that whites also call Zimbabwe home. This is a country we all love and should never give up on it. We have something good in Zim.
dzakudzaku? my father served and paid heavily, and i can assure you, he would never have done that. the soldiers of the rhodesian african rifles were fine troops. just to be clear, i am a zimbabwean, and i pray for a better zimbabwe to return to everyday...just so you know that we are on the same side.but a lot of westerners and their views piss me off...
chiboyi, your heart's in the right place and Zim needs more people like you. Sadly your understanding of our history seems incomplete. Maybe when next you go to Zim, take time out to speak to the rural folk, they saw more of the war and its atrocities than most. BTW, please say the ? on "dzaku dzaku" is not because you've never heard of them.
liyah623..i never remember black people being treated like animals, the fifth brigade however... and klu klux clan?! are you actually serious?! the rhodesian light infantry was half black!! you can rant and rave and philosiphize, but reality is another thing completely.
The Rhodesian infantry was a rape army division that forced young blacks into service, Hence the name CALL-UP, MY own uncle was forced at gun point into this DZAKUDZAKU army.Liyah623 has apoint, How can we fight Mugabe together when you Isolate yourself as Rhodies? Do you want to be a part of this future great Zimbabwe or not?
Chiboyi, judging from your age I can definitely see how you can come up with a comment like "i never remember black people being treated like animals". Of course you wouldn't. The country had been independent for 6 years by the time you were born. And by the way, those blacks who did fight on the side of the Rhodesian army were regarded as traitors to the black cause. Something many of them were hardly proud to boast about. Believe me I know, I was there.
My part of Europe was conquered by Romans, Norsemen, the French, the Dutch, the Spanish and not so long ago the Germans. Should I wonder whom to blame for the tax-increase this year?
I have a life which I am living right now...I treat everyone with respect. Note how you said 'conquered' and dint say colonialism. They are two different things. I dont necessarily agree with the way Zimbabwe is being run right now but I surely dont appreciate people that say that black people is the reason zimbabwe is where it is
I dont believe in any system that oppresses people based on their colour and uses principles of deceit. It really disheartens me to hear fellow zimbabweans white or black want to go back rhodesian times. kingkillerant you told ME to treat everyone with respect. Do you think it respectful that people wish to go back to a time when your people where treated like animals, treated badly just because of the colour of their skin.
I respect people irrespect of their colour. The issue of zimbabwe's or Africa's downfall TODAY has nothing to do with colour of skin it has to do with greedy individuals that are playing the game of politics and those corporations and governments that sponsor them.
This is what I blame colinialism. 1)creating boundariees where they werent meant to be.2) Creating ethnic distinction that didnt exist. 3) Creating economic dependencies that are difficult for countries to break.4) Creating racial hierachy and stereotypes. The creation of these things stil plague the continent.
Most of you miss your homes because you had a maid and you had huge pieceS of land and went to great schools, all this at the expense of black people.and to say 'stop blaming colonialism' means you still dont get it. To sit there and call yourselves proudly Rhodees is like sitting there and calling yourselves Ku Klax Klan. I see white pple running down countries too Bush being a classic example...
45zimbo1962. "Right on" my man you are on the money. I am Black and I agree Black Africans need to stop the bitching and press on. I would rather have a comment like yours. We need to start by kicking Mugabe out. But you whites need to cool your racial garbage on YouTube
This forum tends to attract 'Selous Scouts wannabes'. They don't realise that the majority of those Rhodesian Special Forces units were completely multi racial. My Dad served proudly and our family were victims too but lets move on. the 80's and the 90's could be even better after Bob.
Really makes me home sick watching this video, and reading the comments, well, what can I say ? One great country stuffed up. Can't understand why old Bob has managed to stay in power for so long. Perhaps all us "Rhodies" should go back, in force, and spoil his day.
It's kinda sad to see what has happened to Zimbabwe, we now have the world's highest inflation rate and it's gonna get worse. The problem is corruption, these politicians are just too greedy.
Here Here to 45zimbo1962. I think we all agree, considering that when these guys took over the countries they were in great condition. When Mugabe took over Rhodesia it was almost 1 to 1 with the pound£ and that was only 27 years ago, look at it now!
tried to make sense of your comment but can assure you I AM over it and the right people ARE living in the country and deserve all the misery they get, at least I wont be contributing to it!
there is no place like zim. its beauty, history and unmatched places are just magnificent. i miss home and i pray that the contry comes good sooner rather than later.
Get rid of Mugabe? You'll have to get rid of ZANU-PF, the CIO, the Green Bombers and the military top brass. Half the country is starvinbg while the other half is dying from AIDS.
be patient. Rhodesia WILL rise from the ashes. I hope to be there when it does.
Watched this vid again after a long time and still cried, I have a memory to go with every single photo, the music and the sounds of wild life. I will never return as it will never be the same again.
Rowdyrhodie, im only 35 and spent most of my youth in our grate land, thanks for showing what we all had, memorys are the only thing that cant be taken. hope to see more soon.
I dont know where fleurette2000 comes from or if he/she is responding to the video or to someone elses comment, but one thing I do think, and that is that if fleurette2000 is commenting on the video clip, he/she has missed the plot by a country mile.
This video is not pointing fingers at anyone be they black or white or any other colour for that matter, this video is simply just a dream of what we have left behind to move onto another life, most of us have not done this by choice.
I am from Zimboland. I was actually responding to comments on the board not the video. I think the video is great. I wasn't youtube savvy when I posted my first comments. Apologies!
To place all blame of darkie is a tad simplistic, racist and broad don't you think? Whitey isn't the only one to have lost something out of the current fraca. We all whitey and darkie have played a role in the mess. So why not try to be a part of the solution instead of yearning for a time when darkie was more screwed than whitey has ever been? But hey man if you do indeed believe darkie doesn't deserve rights then to each his own.
So you are able to explain why there isn't ONE single country that darkie has taken over that isn't a TOTAL DISASTER are you. Which place do you know of that is a thriving success? now we have 7th world disasters instead of 3rd world could have beens
Pete, You obviously look at the world in very simplistic terms. Africa has potential for great wealth, however the exploitation of its natural and Human resources for the benefit of a few whites has always been the primary objective of all colonial regimes. Colonialism was never intent on improving the lives of the indigenous inhabitants. There was NEVER any intent to educate or intergrate.
YOU RAPE A LAND AND ITS PEOPLE AND YOU NOW EXPECT THEM TO FLOURISH AFTER THAT???
For how long will black Africa blame their problems of today on their colonial past? Nigerians still do it today! It is not an excuse. Time for Africans to KICK OUT their kleptomaaniac governments and start fixing their own problems. You wanted independence, now you got it... so stop your whinging and get on and sort your mess out instead of doing nothing and conveniently blaming "colonialism" which ended 50 years ago! Pathetic...
Oh Pete, as a darkie born in 1980 I obvioulsy see it all from a different point of view. I am not attempting to explain every "TOTAL DISASTER" I am trying to make sense of ours. I spend every day of my life trying to be a part of the solution, what do you do?
What do I do? The answer is short and sweet. I close my business down, leave 11 people without jobs.. a small drop in the ocean and say " I have had enough of the uncontrolable violence, baby rape and murders. I then apply for a British passport which I am entitled to thanks to my parents and say a very fond farewell to all the absolute abject misery and settle in Britain and start again. Thats what I do Fleurette. My trying to be part of the solution is a non-event now.
i tend to think that people like you with pessimistic mindframes will never allow 3rd world countries to succeed. All we need are the right people. THe stronger countries fighting the right wars. Not iraq and iran and those places. they only threaten us because the us threaten them. Get over it, africa needs the help, i tend to think the only reason they wont help africa is because if africa was as good as it was, then it would the leading continent.
I want to weep when I think what has happened to what was a stunning country! It is beyond any form of help and thank goodness memories are ours to enjoy and recall. Thank you for the great clip!
I understand and agree that Zimbabwe is obviously worse off than Rhodesia was, but isnt it really that you are lamenting the fact that whitey is no longer top dog there so to speak?
Thats why its such a total disaster. BECAUSE darkie is in charge. If we look from the southern tip to the northern tip of Africa we will see that when darkie takes over , the death knell rings for that country. The exchange rate of £2000.00=Zim$1,000,000speaks for itself. I rest my case.
Damn that is pretty bad. I remember seeing a news special on public TV about how things are so bad there recently you can't even tell jokes about Mugabe and they have to keep printing higher denominations of the money so you can still buy things w/o having to use a wheelbarrow for a wallet c/o hyperinflation.
Pete you're sounding a bit fascist there mate. I grew up in Botswana under a black govt, it was brilliant. Never any problems between expats and blacks and the country is still developing nicely with a decent enough infrastructure. Yes it has problems (AIDS, education system) but you can in no way call Bots a failure. Get your head of your arse.
Who cares a rats arse where you grew up and even more importantly about Botswana??????? The education system definitely affected you, what is it you are trying to say in your last garbled sentence? How about kissing mine!
Peteloves, Your ass ain't worth kissing becoz you would love for the world to validate blacks as dummies. Too bad Botswana has most of you racists screaming. Botswana has one of the highest economic growth in the world and its also deemed as a true democratic country. Other African leaders are in the process of learning how the Tswanas are doing business, so petelovesevil, you have all the reason to be upset.
Tough that they still have to pay 12.591 Pulas to buy one of our really STRONG British £'s see how I am screaming? When did you say you were last in Botswana, I must have missed it somehow?
slogger! well done you've got it, hole in one the Americans have to fork out $2.03c to get £1.00p, we are twice as strong as the dollar and we fork out 1 Pound and get rewarded with 2 dollars see?
We have the strongest economy in the world! Bet that burns you up! Dont spend too much valauble time trying to work it out!
petelovesbevsills, someone need an Economics tutorial? Here are the GDP per capita figures for 2006 (the way to measure economic strength): 1. Luxembourg 2. Equatorial Guinea 3. UAE 4. Norway 5. Ireland 6. USA 7. Iceland 8. Denmark 9. Canada 10. San Marino A little knowledge goes a long way!
There's absolutly no point in reasoning with a racist little shit like yourself. Have you ever even lived in Africa because I've met some die hard Afrikaaners who arent even close to matching your hatred. Did mummy run off with a black man or something? Fucking hell, calm down and seek help.
I don´t know BestGowKills, as I haven´t visited America.

Watching this video and listerning to this beat reminds me of what truly Africa is. Its a pitty that most debate always dilapidate into a frenzy of racial verbal diarrhea. I am black but also realize that whites also call Zimbabwe home. This is a country we all love and should never give up on it. We have something good in Zim.
slogger07 4 years ago 3
dzakudzaku? my father served and paid heavily, and i can assure you, he would never have done that. the soldiers of the rhodesian african rifles were fine troops. just to be clear, i am a zimbabwean, and i pray for a better zimbabwe to return to everyday...just so you know that we are on the same side.but a lot of westerners and their views piss me off...
chiboyi 4 years ago
chiboyi, your heart's in the right place and Zim needs more people like you. Sadly your understanding of our history seems incomplete. Maybe when next you go to Zim, take time out to speak to the rural folk, they saw more of the war and its atrocities than most. BTW, please say the ? on "dzaku dzaku" is not because you've never heard of them.
zimbomatty 4 years ago
liyah623..i never remember black people being treated like animals, the fifth brigade however... and klu klux clan?! are you actually serious?! the rhodesian light infantry was half black!! you can rant and rave and philosiphize, but reality is another thing completely.
chiboyi 4 years ago 2
The Rhodesian infantry was a rape army division that forced young blacks into service, Hence the name CALL-UP, MY own uncle was forced at gun point into this DZAKUDZAKU army.Liyah623 has apoint, How can we fight Mugabe together when you Isolate yourself as Rhodies? Do you want to be a part of this future great Zimbabwe or not?
slogger07 4 years ago
Chiboyi, judging from your age I can definitely see how you can come up with a comment like "i never remember black people being treated like animals". Of course you wouldn't. The country had been independent for 6 years by the time you were born. And by the way, those blacks who did fight on the side of the Rhodesian army were regarded as traitors to the black cause. Something many of them were hardly proud to boast about. Believe me I know, I was there.

Stop blaming colonialism, get a life.
Treat every person with respect.
Respect personal property.
My part of Europe was conquered by Romans, Norsemen, the French, the Dutch, the Spanish and not so long ago the Germans. Should I wonder whom to blame for the tax-increase this year?
kingkillerant 4 years ago 3
I have a life which I am living right now...I treat everyone with respect. Note how you said 'conquered' and dint say colonialism. They are two different things. I dont necessarily agree with the way Zimbabwe is being run right now but I surely dont appreciate people that say that black people is the reason zimbabwe is where it is
liyah623 4 years ago
I dont believe in any system that oppresses people based on their colour and uses principles of deceit. It really disheartens me to hear fellow zimbabweans white or black want to go back rhodesian times. kingkillerant you told ME to treat everyone with respect. Do you think it respectful that people wish to go back to a time when your people where treated like animals, treated badly just because of the colour of their skin.
liyah623 4 years ago
I respect people irrespect of their colour. The issue of zimbabwe's or Africa's downfall TODAY has nothing to do with colour of skin it has to do with greedy individuals that are playing the game of politics and those corporations and governments that sponsor them.
liyah623 4 years ago
This is what I blame colinialism. 1)creating boundariees where they werent meant to be.2) Creating ethnic distinction that didnt exist. 3) Creating economic dependencies that are difficult for countries to break.4) Creating racial hierachy and stereotypes. The creation of these things stil plague the continent.
liyah623 4 years ago
liyah, Amen brother, I cant agree with you.
slogger07 4 years ago

But you whites need to cool your racial garbage on YouTube
slogger07 5 years ago
This forum tends to attract 'Selous Scouts wannabes'. They don't realise that the majority of those Rhodesian Special Forces units were completely multi racial. My Dad served proudly and our family were victims too but lets move on. the 80's and the 90's could be even better after Bob.

Here Here to 45zimbo1962. I think we all agree, considering that when these guys took over the countries they were in great condition. When Mugabe took over Rhodesia it was almost 1 to 1 with the pound£ and that was only 27 years ago, look at it now!

But hey man if you do indeed believe darkie doesn't deserve rights then to each his own.
fleurette2000 5 years ago
So you are able to explain why there isn't ONE single country that darkie has taken over that isn't a TOTAL DISASTER are you. Which place do you know of that is a thriving success? now we have 7th world disasters instead of 3rd world could have beens
petelovesbevsills 5 years ago
Pete, You obviously look at the world in very simplistic terms. Africa has potential for great wealth, however the exploitation of its natural and Human resources for the benefit of a few whites has always been the primary objective of all colonial regimes. Colonialism was never intent on improving the lives of the indigenous inhabitants. There was NEVER any intent to educate or intergrate.
YOU RAPE A LAND AND ITS PEOPLE AND YOU NOW EXPECT THEM TO FLOURISH AFTER THAT???
schumacher69 5 years ago
For how long will black Africa blame their problems of today on their colonial past? Nigerians still do it today! It is not an excuse. Time for Africans to KICK OUT their kleptomaaniac governments and start fixing their own problems. You wanted independence, now you got it... so stop your whinging and get on and sort your mess out instead of doing nothing and conveniently blaming "colonialism" which ended 50 years ago! Pathetic...
45zimbo1962 5 years ago
Oh Pete, as a darkie born in 1980 I obvioulsy see it all from a different point of view. I am not attempting to explain every "TOTAL DISASTER" I am trying to make sense of ours. I spend every day of my life trying to be a part of the solution, what do you do?
fleurette2000 5 years ago
What do I do? The answer is short and sweet. I close my business down, leave 11 people without jobs.. a small drop in the ocean and say " I have had enough of the uncontrolable violence, baby rape and murders. I then apply for a British passport which I am entitled to thanks to my parents and say a very fond farewell to all the absolute abject misery and settle in Britain and start again. Thats what I do Fleurette. My trying to be part of the solution is a non-event now.
petelovesbevsills 5 years ago
i tend to think that people like you with pessimistic mindframes will never allow 3rd world countries to succeed. All we need are the right people. THe stronger countries fighting the right wars. Not iraq and iran and those places. they only threaten us because the us threaten them. Get over it, africa needs the help, i tend to think the only reason they wont help africa is because if africa was as good as it was, then it would the leading continent.

I understand and agree that Zimbabwe is obviously worse off than Rhodesia was, but isnt it really that you are lamenting the fact that whitey is no longer top dog there so to speak?
ScubaSteveM45 5 years ago
Thats why its such a total disaster. BECAUSE darkie is in charge. If we look from the southern tip to the northern tip of Africa we will see that when darkie takes over , the death knell rings for that country. The exchange rate of £2000.00=Zim$1,000,000speaks for itself. I rest my case.
petelovesbevsills 5 years ago
Damn that is pretty bad. I remember seeing a news special on public TV about how things are so bad there recently you can't even tell jokes about Mugabe and they have to keep printing higher denominations of the money so you can still buy things w/o having to use a wheelbarrow for a wallet c/o hyperinflation.
ScubaSteveM45 5 years ago
Pete you're sounding a bit fascist there mate. I grew up in Botswana under a black govt, it was brilliant. Never any problems between expats and blacks and the country is still developing nicely with a decent enough infrastructure. Yes it has problems (AIDS, education system) but you can in no way call Bots a failure. Get your head of your arse.
