I'm only thirteen. I literally grew up with this game. My brother has played it through six times, as have I. I've gotten all of the new RPGs and they don't even compare to this game. The three disc set still stands in my game library, and it is my most frequently played game on the PS3. I'll never forget this game; the emotions it brought me were fantastic and real. The anxiousness I had for Cloud, the overwhelming sadness I felt for Aries; Final Fantasy VII is the greatest game in history.
i have to say, i NEVER used to like, or play, videogames. 'What a waste of time. the grafics suck either way.' were my exact words when asked why i didnt. then my friend got me into KH and i was like 'thats not too bad...' soon after she showed me FF (7 and advent children) and I swear it was like I'd sold my soul to the devil xD i am obssessed. I have never found another game to surpass, or even equal this one. FF7 is one of a kind. Its a REAL video game. the music/ plot are fantastic. i <3 it!
Yuffie was a theif, Vincent was emo, Barret cussed everyone out, Cloud crossdressed, Reno was hammered all the time, Rude was a gentlemen, Elena had to work harder then men, Tseng was a hardass, Reeve played with toys, Rufus was a corrupt politicion, Nanaki put his family first, Tifa threatened to squash a guy's balls, Cid smoked, Zack stayed true to his honor, Aerith gave her life to save everyone, and Sephiroth spoke fanatically about his mother...
Wenn ACTA durchgesetzt wird werden alle Final Fantasy Soundtracks (und noch viel mehr) aus dem Netz verbannt - fast wie jetzt auch, nur das die Uploader dann wirklich dafür zur Rechenschaft gezogen werden. Das heisst wer sowas auf Youtube uppt dem wird beigebracht es niemals wieder zu tun. Das gilt auch für Remixe. Wenn ihr also genau so in dieser Musik aufgeht und wollt, dass sich die Fanbases weiterentwickeln können sollte gegen ACTA ankämpfen!

@gameteacher101 30+ hours, longer for side content. If you're just there for the story then don't hesitate to fight the final boss, he scales accordingly to your level.
I'm amazed at the amount of passion and love people have for this game. The reason I fucking revere this game is because of the music. Everything just seems transcendent while the music is playing, it's like my heart just radiates nostalgia and it's motherfucking awesome.

Y'know. I know if we have FFVII remade people will complain about the voices.. Why not just do it without voices again? I love Final Fantasy VII so much. Still after all these years I get that magical feeling of childhood again :)

@Chayraz2 What I meant by exactly is make exactly the same game but with todays technology. Some developer said that if they were to remake FF VII there lots of things that they wanted to change. I'm betting arcs, mechanics and other things. However I thing that when we think about a FF VII remake we think about FF VII with todays graphics.
@LordMarluxia11 I think it'll take a while unfortunately - SE are currently making FFX HD [PS3/360 like Devil May Cry], as well as continuing the Fabula Novum Crystalis series or w/e [bad]. I think after that, they will probably make either FFX-2 HD and mabye FFXII HD OR what everybody deep down in their heart desires.
@xShinraTensei Yes surely I don't expect it to be released let's say, in 2 years, unfortunately companies these days are more interested in milking money out of HD remakes rather than making new games. I'm aware that I'm kind of contradicting myself here but a remake of FF VII wouldn't make Square look like they are milking money. Instead they would look like a serious company who responds to the desires of their fans.
@xShinraTensei Yes but think about it. I already have FFX, I'm not going to buy it again. Sure, I would like to get a trophy for each Dark Aeon's arse I kick but it seems selfish to me! @LordMarluxia11 Well tbh they plan to carry the Fabula Nova Crystalis on for a while apparently - more than a few years or so unfortunately, so making HD remakes is just a side venture during it, they probably won't make any mainstream games until they are done with it.
@xShinraTensei They are done with Type-0. Only Versus XIII is left. I still can't understand what's taking them so damn long wth Versus XIII. The game seems so wicked, I need to play it. I also played the demo of XIII-2 and it looks very good. Exploration is back, random battles too. But pretty girl Serah is still there!
@LordMarluxia11 Yeah, I really didn't care for the lack of exploration in "XIII." The story in "XIII-2" seems more like a fantasy adventure-type story, as well. I bet if you combine the two, you get a complete "Final Fantasy" game. :)
@Tycho86 XIII was great. I liked the story, the characters, the battle system and some the landscapes were beautiful. X was linear when they released and very few complained.

@LordMarluxia11 wouldn´t say that, the part that makes ff7 so good was the story and the characters and now everyone knows how the story ends and who will die/survive - I think a 1:1 remake of ff7 would be amazing, but at the same time a financial disaster for square enix. Beside that, if you own a PSV/PSP you can play FF7 on that and it still looks good (or at least acceptable)
I'd hate a remake of this game. The thing is, this game doesn't need one. It isn't dated enough. Even today, it's visuals are still wonderful. FFIV, V, VI, and VII don't need remakes.
Of course, they most probably will get remade at some point. And when that happens... I hope they don't touch VI.

And when I say remakes I mean graphics and maybe 3rd person view, they don't even need voice acting! VII probably feel strange without it because of the film. @LordMarluxia11 couldn't agree with you more. Why remake X, it was good but no where near the glory days of VII. They've devoted time and resources to XIII-2 instead of a VII remake. I would actually pay $300+ for the remade game if that's what it cost!
@alcibiades1111 Zack's influence on half of the main characters in FFVII can't be understated. Not to mention, Crisis Core is the only sensible spin-off to come from the original game. That Advent Children movie still baffles me. (How is it that if Vincent is killed from one magnum round and Aerith is killed by a single stab wound that Cloud can survive several stab wounds and a gun shot AND an explosion while his team sits by, idly watching him? *facepalm*)
I used to want a remake of this... but after seeing the direction and style that most recent FF games have taken, I don't want Square-Enix anywhere near this fucking game. They would ruin it so badly...
Even if Square Enix botched the remake, everyone would still buy it, so they wouldn't lose money.. if I were them I would make it and retire off the fortune. The equivalent of raw-dogging and bailing on a celebrity when given the chance.
I have mixed feelings about a remake. While a part of me greatly wants to see Square Enix bring this game into the 21st century, another part of me doesn't want them to take that chance. Very few things can be considered masterpieces. Even people who don't consider VII to be their favorite, do not deny its impression on video game entertainment.
@theronaldofan100 Me too man. I remember seeing cloud flip out of the train in the begging. I immediately thought he was awesome. I did not understand who he was until now though. And how perfect this music is, and how sad it, yet bright it is. I'm lucky to have been raised as a FF fan.
The new systems make games with better graphics, more explosions, and higher production values. But games from the PS2, PS1 and other consoles of those times made much better games overall.
I'm beginning to see why people criticise Cloud for being an "emo." I didn't notice it for a long time because in the first game he was awesome. He had exiting anime hair, comedic moments - he dressed in drag, for Christ sake! Any depressing parts were delivered in moderation.
But thinking about it now, in Advent Children he's turned into a constant downer clad completely in black (oh, original ಠ_ಠ) who spends almost the entire movie slagging off his friends and trying to get by on his own.

@Dart118 That's the thing they know they will make a lot of money and it worries me becuase Sqaure has changed a LOT since they made FF7. They have new poeple and one of the most important men involved with FF7 left Square a long time a go. Final Fantasy is far from it's golden days and FF7 is my favorite game of all time, I can't imagine it being ruined or messed up in anyway. I guess only time will tell.
@TheXXLethal If they do the remake, the storyline should stay the same. The one big thing would be to give it PS3 graphics and maybe update the battle system which was good for the PS1 but I think should be updated for a PS3 game. I don't have a PS3 but I would buy one just to play the remake

I would buy a remake but I don't want Square messing my greatest gaming memories of all time. Cloud, Sep, Barret, and Cid were so bad ass and I just wonder about Square nowadays.

FF7 is hailed as the best JRPG ever, and there is a damn good reason for it.

@LordMarluxia11 wouldn´t say that, the part that makes ff7 so good was the story and the characters and now everyone knows how the story ends and who will die/survive - I think a 1:1 remake of ff7 would be amazing, but at the same time a financial disaster for square enix. Beside that, if you own a PSV/PSP you can play FF7 on that and it still looks good (or at least acceptable)

I'd hate a remake of this game. The thing is, this game doesn't need one. It isn't dated enough. Even today, it's visuals are still wonderful. FFIV, V, VI, and VII don't need remakes.
Of course, they most probably will get remade at some point. And when that happens... I hope they don't touch VI.

And when I say remakes I mean graphics and maybe 3rd person view, they don't even need voice acting! VII probably feel strange without it because of the film. @alcibiades1111 Zack's influence on half of the main characters in FFVII can't be understated. Not to mention, Crisis Core is the only sensible spin-off to come from the original game. That Advent Children movie still baffles me. (How is it that if Vincent is killed from one magnum round and Aerith is killed by a single stab wound that Cloud can survive several stab wounds and a gun shot AND an explosion while his team sits by, idly watching him? *facepalm*)

I have mixed feelings about a remake. While a part of me greatly wants to see Square Enix bring this game into the 21st century, another part of me doesn't want them to take that chance. Very few things can be considered masterpieces. Even people who don't consider VII to be their favorite, do not deny its impression on video game entertainment.

I'm beginning to see why people criticise Cloud for being an "emo." I didn't notice it for a long time because in the first game he was awesome. He had exiting anime hair, comedic moments - he dressed in drag, for Christ sake! Any depressing parts were delivered in moderation.
But thinking about it now, in Advent Children he's turned into a constant downer clad completely in black (oh, original ಠ_ಠ) who spends almost the entire movie slagging off his friends and trying to get by on his own.

@Dart118 That's the thing they know they will make a lot of money and it worries me becuase Sqaure has changed a LOT since they made FF7. They have new poeple and one of the most important men involved with FF7 left Square a long time a go. Final Fantasy is far from it's golden days and FF7 is my favorite game of all time, I can't imagine it being ruined or messed up in anyway. I guess only time will tell.

@TheXXLethal If they do the remake, the storyline should stay the same. The one big thing would be to give it PS3 graphics and maybe update the battle system which was good for the PS1 but I think should be updated for a PS3 game. I don't have a PS3 but I would buy one just to play the remake

I would buy a remake but I don't want Square messing my greatest gaming memories of all time. I don't know if they can capture taht same emotion and intense feeling if they make real voices and character personalities. Cloud, Sep, Barret, and Cid were so bad ass and I just wonder about Square nowadays.

@Dart118 oh GOD NO! They would redo dialogue and change things within the game. EVERY remake of every game has undertaken that road of fate. It was such an amazing game, I would not, EVAR, suggest it descend to such a fate, that being said, I love this song, as with every song in FFVII, they are brilliantly written, elegantly composed, and masterfully sculpted to perfection. It matters not what the haters say, for they will hate anyway, and no matter how many JRPG's are made, his memory will be there. Right down to the ridiculously spiky hair and ridiculously huge sword.
