  • I'm headed to Osaka in 2 weeks, and I have a Kanto accent. I'm scared of not being able to understand Osaka-ben, despite all my Japanese studying >_<

  • @OnlyMusic16 You can at least prepare for Osaka-ben from my videos, and please remember that if you show the local people that you have some knowledge of Osaka-ben, they will smile. Maybe it's hard to get used to Osaka-ben so quickly, so take enough time and don't be disappointed if you can't understand sometimes. It's all okay.

  • great project ! keep up the good work !

  • My friend from Ousaka taught this phrase to me:「なにやってんね。」Am I spelling that right? It is supposed to mean something like 何をしている?

  • @OngakuZukiSan The spelling is 「なにやってんねん。」Technically speaking, it's more like 「何をしているんだ。」 than 「何をしている?」 because it has a stronger tone.

  • I'm moving to Osaka in a few months, and I would love to learn Osaka ben more. I'd love to be able to talk to you some more as a penpal.

  • @kamikenji Yeah, why not? I can correct your Osaka-ben and such.

I'll send you a message with my email in it :3 I can receive/type Japanese on my phone.

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I am learning Japanese on my own and videos like this are very helpful.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1 I'm also glad that it's helpful for you!

  • This video is very useful because my friends and I are going to Osaka for a week during the summer, so I'll be sure to use some of these phrases ^^

btw, how did your english get so good when you were born and raised in Osaka??

  • @ChuppahCrunch wow, then it's definitely good for you! Have fun in Osaka! It's a long story how I managed to learn English; to put it briefly, I made an environment around me where I can regularly use English, like through making international friends and such^^

  • hey what does Homaya or Umaya mean? I remember everyone is osaka using it, but could really figure out the context

  • @redmuzam "Honma" is "Hontou" in Standard Japanese. So "Honma-ya!" is like "Oh, that was true!", for example. I'm not sure where "Uma-ya" comes from because it literally means "Oh, it's a horse.", which we probably don't often meet a chance to say :P

  • Great videos!

I'm learning Japanese for my trip to Japan in May

One of the places I'll be stopping by will be Osaka, this will be great help!

When doing your Japanese translation for the English, it will help if you repeat it slower for the non-Japanese speaking crowd to practice their listening

Once normal speed and once slow speed would help improve a lot!

    Thanks for the upload!

  • @beekayproductions Good for you! Sorry for that my speaking speed was a bit too fast for you - but I like your positive attitude towards learning the language they speak in the place you are going to visit.

  • I like your lips... just saying...

  • @dreamchaser171 haha, thanks. I inherited my moms lips

  • subbing. I have been wanting to study osaka ben for a while to freak out my japanese teacher =] keep it up great vids!

  • @dominicdit Do it! You know, knowing a dialect is closer to the reality in Japan than only knowing standard Japanese :D It's all good!

  • That's pretty interesting! Ganbatte kudasai :D

  • @TheViewOfCalvin Arigato~!

  • Your videos are very good (: and quality very good. Still trying to get the last word down.

  • @Ineedagoodscreenname Thank you, and good luck on the last one :D Being able to say なんでやねん makes the Japanese feel like that you know really a lot about Japan!

  • Very interesting videos, thank you for making them! I learn alot because I watch Gaki no Tsukai and they always say those phrases. Please continue to make videos. Also if you can, can you also show examples of standard Japanese to show how Osaka-ben is different. Thanks again!!

  • @kfcpile Since many of the comidians are from our Kansai region, they speak my dialect on TV :) And yeah, I'm going to cover the difference between standard Japanese and Osaka-ben - even though it's very difficult to describe :P I "know" or "feel" the difference but telling is somthing dirrent from that, so. But I'll try, so keep following me please :)

  • what does "zen zen dame da" mean? is it the same as akan?

  • @lundpyara "dame" is "akan". "zen zen" is "not ~ at all (whatsoever)", so it makes the denial stronger. So "zen zen akan" is the equivalent to "zen zen dame". Nice question!

  • This is super-informative! I'm learning a lot of Osaka-ben AND Tokyo-ben from you. Also, your English is such a cute blend of American and British. :)

  • @jesinu haha, yeah, my english soulds half british and half american maybe :P i was taught american english at school, but in fact i lived in europe for a year, and i got some sense form british english too :) thank you for the comment!

  • keep it up!I like!!

  • @lovepeaceniuniu thanx^^

  • "Like"

  • @estarfly ^^

  • Have you thought of getting some of the other large japanese learning-channels on youtube to give you a shoutout? I could maybe mention your name to some of them if you want some extra exposure, because i think this is something many people might want to learn :) Btw, Joakim fra Oslo her. :)

  • @NegatioNZor Takk! Yeah, why not :) But remember my purpose is not getting more famous, but just to help them learn Osaka-ben. So if they really want my assist, I would be very happy to do it!
