@MrSeventhElement Turkey's have incredible eyesight, they can pick up a white face in a black blind easily. It's just a precaution. I'd hate to have carried a blind, chair, tripod. camera, decoys, bow and calls and call a Turkey in. Only to have him bust me because he saw something he didn't like.
@Clemensdude55 I used a few different bows in this video. Darton 80#, Bow Tech 90# and Mathews 70# no Bear. I turn those heavy poundages down for Turkey.
Really...do u eat these turkeys or just hunt for game???I hope you eat them..else that is just sad...Man is an omnivore..but hunting for game is like..really sad..Just sharing my opinion.
Dang Gus, how'd I miss this one? Awesome video man, never saw a decoy and tom stuck together before. That's a first. Didn't hunt turkeys this year, but next year the Ol' Hoyt will be plucking one right outta the food chain. lol. Thumbs up!
Gus, in the first kill,It looks as if you are shooting a Matthews with Easton FMJ`s. I am curious as to the weight you are shooting. Being you shoot over 80lbs for big game,I was wondering if the Turkey rig is toned down alot?
@NasalObstruction Good eye, I was shooting a 70# Mathews in 2 of the hunts. I screwed up in Wy. and shot my BowTech at 90#. The arrow blew through the Turkey too fast, I missed nailing the vitals it took the bird 45 min to die. I was lucky the other birds with him, fed for over an hr. in the field. He just laid up in sight of the blind until he expired. I turn down my bows for Turkey, I don't want a pass through. I also went to expandable broadheads.
@GusCongemi Ok,,so the FMJ`s are quick enough.. I was concerned they may be a bit too slow. I had it in my head the Turkey can jump the string like a deer. I have a Bowtech Guardian,which I shoot at 65lb @ 28in Draw for deer. Think I should turn it up to 70?
@NasalObstruction Turkeys are usually moving and add in a small kill zone that makes them a tough bow target. It is best to shoot the bird in full strut if possible. I would leave the bow turned down. The slower the better try not to get a pass through. The broadhead seems to do more damage if it stays in while the bird is flopping around. So even on a marginal hit there is a chance the vitals might get punctured if the broadhead is still in.
@NasalObstruction Good luck, every year I say I'm going to use the Guillotine and get video and I never see enough birds to do it. Have you shot them before?
@GusCongemi No,,I havent bow hunted for Turkey yet. I was a gun guy up until the beggining of 2010. I got pretty good very quickly,really got into it. I will be testing the Magnus over the winter so I am prepared for the spring.
@hunterknapp16 That was pretty cool. I'm running the video camera, calling and shooting the bow. I guess the decoy looked like fair game. I was in N.Y. on that hunt.
Did you get them custom made at those # you might get 73 out of a darton¿

Shoot. I see a good half dozen turkeys every day on my way to or from work. Saw 8 just on the way back a couple hours ago.

@GusCongemi I Neglected to mention I want to use the Magnus Bullhead or possibly the Guillotine,,so my shots will be at the head not the body.

@NasalObstruction Good luck, shoot straight
GusCongemi 1 year ago
@NasalObstruction My shots have always been less than 25 yds. so most bows are plenty fast at that distance even at less poundage.

Amazing how they run like that with a bow!! Seems like everyone I get with a bow makes it atleast 20 or 30 yards.
I love it when they gobble at the decoys like that too!! Great job on all of the birds!! Every bird is awesome with a bow!!

@hunterknapp16
Damn it, I always comment before the end!! That had to be the funniest stuff I have EVER seen when you stuck that bird to the decoy!! LOL!!
Where were you in NY?? I'm only 5 minutes from the NY border. Right below Elmira, NY.
