No, Rob did not. His musicianship is absolutely superb, but it's not as close as anyone can play today - it'd be closer in the right key! ;)
That said, I can understand why Metallica has to play in the tuning they do, it being related to James' voice as best as I can recall. It just sounds a little weird to me (and this applies across the board to most other songs as well) which is why I rarely listen to live recordings post-1990 or so.

No, Rob did not. His musicianship is absolutely superb, but it's not as close as anyone can play today - it'd be closer in the right key! ;)
That said, I can understand why Metallica has to play in the tuning they do, it being related to James' voice as best as I can recall. It just sounds a little weird to me (and this applies across the board to most other songs as well) which is why I rarely listen to live recordings post-1990 or so.

for those who said that metallica have 'lost their touch' as some asshole put it.... i was there at that very concert. And by no means have they lost their touch. for a start, you wont get good sound quality with a general video camcorder. And for another thing, nothing ever sounds the same live. EVER....

They did mention cliff James yelled "That was Orion, God bless cliff burton!!!" at the end. and there was a picture of him on the side screens during Damage inc. which stayed there til they came back onstage to do sad but true. I remember this because it was the greatest night of my life lol. Orion <3
