  • Thanks to everybody that post this great music . Thanks to you too U-TUBE'

  • Ella Mae, you solid sender! I could really dig me some spud salad about now!

  • Nothin but good times.

  • Wow what a great happy song. You know she helped a lot of tired workers get thru their shift singing this!

  • Might be wrong, but I think this may have something to do with meat rationing during WWII. If you couldn't always have steak, you could probably always get potatoes. Then again as someone else said, family picnics were a bigger deal in those days, which always means potato salad. Maybe it was both reasons. (Armed Forces Radio announcer--"What you say Ella Mae!!". Ella Mae Morse--"Solid Jack! Solid!". Ya gotta love the forties.)

  • Sing it, Doll Face , sing it !

  • I'm trying to understand the lyric in the Intro verse. " Some folks like their tatos----------,

Some prefer French Fries.".... It rimes with mayonnaise... I've been checking out all

of this original Boogie Woogie, It's fantastic .. Ella you still got it....... love the Ross sisters too....................

  • @douglasrmorris

Funny ... I was just wondering the same thing. I simply worked backwards. It rhymes with "ma-yo-naise", and seems to be "li-on-aise".

A quick search on Google yielded: "lyonnaise".

    lyon·naise (lī′ə nāz′; Fr lyō̂ nez′) adjective --

prepared with finely sliced onions; esp., designating potatoes prepared with fried onions.

    See how easy it is?

  • @Rajamuttu Hey thanks, I'm an old dog tryin to learn a new trick. The reason I was trying to figure out the lyrics were so I could sing it at the next family BBQ. I've never heard of lyonnaise but it don't sound to bad though. Now all I need is the chord progression for guitar. Can you make that easy, I tried to google, no luck. I can figure it out it'll just take me awhile. My exmotherinlaw made the best P.S. none of that mustard crap.Maybe those Russkies SPY,s in NY found the clue on P. S.

  • @douglasrmorris

You really DON'T know how to search anything, do you? I don't even play a chordal instrument and I found it in 30 seconds.

    Google "MoneyChords" with "Rhythm Changes".

It's in Wikipedia, too Google "Talk:Rhythm changes".

    Try -- I V7/ii | ii V7.

And you REALLY should learn how to figure out chords by ear. Or buy a Fakebook.

  • This is a solid song. I can dig it.

  • If you liked this version, do a search for "The Ross Sisters" They sing it a bit quicker, and dance, and other things... quite impressive.

  • @metapenguin...there is no hidden message. The lyrics make perfect sense in the context of the 1940s. Slang, especially American slang is perishable. When something was "solid" it was excellent, very good, outstanding, etc. The song is full of 40s expressions.

  • @rjhuff1 Really? Wow... People still use "solid" that way! Or at least they did in the 90's.

  • Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar . . . . . .

  • I don't get it. What's the hidden meaning?

  • @erikmartin2

The hidden meaning is that there is nothing wrong with potato salad ... especially on the Fourth of July.

  • oh i adore this so much!

  • 1943!!!

This song contains an encoded message.

(It's obvious, really, since the plaintext makes no sense.)

    Can you decipher?

  • Really? That's really interesting! D:

  • This song swings :o)

  • Such rythm and soul for a white gurl! im impressed! Shes right on!

  • What a cool one:) I have never heard this one it is excellent:) Thanks for posting it:) 5*****

  • Quite Catchy
