I'm getting this camera for Christmas. I think a digital camera is mainly for taking good pictures, and I know this one does. If you're so picky about the quality of the videos... I would suggest buying a camcorder? I have both and trust me.. for the price, sound or no sound, the digital camera is pretty good.
Well I'm sorry but I don't recall exactly how good the image stabilization was on the 780. And it's not that I think the 960 is better it's just more quiet in all the videos I saw. Frankly I like the shape and design of the 780 better but the buzzing in my videos was just too much for me to keep it. I ended up getting a Panasonic Lumix ZS3 (not LX3 as I said earlier) and have been extremely happy so far. The Panasonic line is very strong this year. Just a littlle harder to find
i'm looking into buying a SD780. how is the stablization on it? and why do you think the SD960 is better? i'd rather stick to Canon cameras....please let me know what you think, thanks
UPDATE: I looked to see what type of card I was using and it was a class 4 high speed card designed for HD etc.. The reason your noise went away is probably because you exchanged it for a sd960 which is a quiet model.
My Lumix LX3 arrived today and I can't wait to play with it. The battery is charging now!
Thanks for the tip! You are actually the second person to tell me that. Unfortunately I already returned the Canon SD780. I ended up ordering a Panasonic Lumix ZS3 instead. About $100 more but got waaaay better reviews than the Cannons.
I had the same problem. Canon said that I needed to get a higher class memory card. I was within the exchange peroid at Best Buy so I exchanged it with the sd960, paid the difference & bought a class 4 card while I was at it. It works good.
i just got this and i am ANNOYED with the sound. did anyone find a solution besides returning it?

I have this camera and it doesn't do that.
My mom has the Powershot SD 1200, I think that's right?
It makes noise all the time, in every mode.
Maybe it's just something with the cameras?

Hi, I'm just curious: was the film grain at all of an issue? I'm noticing quite a bit of grain in this video,so it makes me wonder.

Did you watch the HD version? The film grain is significantly less.
