I just replaced my entire washer in 2009 and I could only wish it was 400.00 for the replacement. This washer is more like a 799.00 washer. The spider goes for 249.99 these days 2/2012). This is the only washer that fits under my counter in the existing space so I replaced it with the exact model. I got more like 10 years from my first one and expect the same from the second.
agreed' Kenmore is crap...bought a Kenmore oasis 3 years ago, I had a bunch of computer problems within months of buying it and now its thumping like crazy.....to fix it it costs a finger! And yes I did have warranty, it expired just before it started messing up.
I purchased one in 2001. Never had a problem with it. I now have to replace the bearing in the rear. Not that difficult of a job. 10 years of service is not bad.
Kenmore washers are AWESOME...the top loaders with the hard agitation action....had one for 15 years and only needed 1 belt repair in all that time. Dryer, purchased at the same time as a set, only needed a belt once. Not too bad. Luck of the draw.
So you all know---most Kenmore appliances are made for Sears under the Kenmore name by Whirlpool. Whirlpool is also the parent company of Maytag. So in other words:
Kenmore=Whirlpool=Maytag --all the same company/same product under different labels.
Unfortunately, from the checking I did, front loaders made by whilrlpool, kenmore and frigidaire all have that stupid aluminum spider assembly against a stainless steel drum. I got a Frigidaire affnity and I changed my detergent to see if I can prevent this from happening so soon.
