  • For whatever reason my iPad would not update to ios5, after trying several different suggestions. I followed this video precisely as shown, and it worked!

  • I just got through reading about DFU recovery. I've been trying the regular recovery mode for a week with no luck (which is the mode you're showing in the video). DFU requires that you stop pressing the power button before the apple logo comes up. It never actually does come up. DFU mode actually looked to me like the ipod was turned off, but it finally was able to restore it. I'm going to assume my ipod's firmware got messed up because DFU actually restores that before restoring software.

  • Doesn't fucking work. Whenever I hold the home button and the other button, it closes, and opens up again.

  • Does this erase your data?

  • i clicked shift+clicking restore but then it said "the system required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. please reinstall itunes to install the ipod's software" wat should i do?? :/ do i reali just simply reinstall itunes?? i just updated it tho!

  • Hey there - maybe you can help me. I made it to the last step of your video.

    • My Ipod Touch suddenly stopped working. I turned it off & it never started back up.

    • It is stuck on the apple logo screen (with the circle of moving bars – as if it is waiting to do something) and never moves on from this.

o I tried syncing it: an error occurs. I try installing a new ipod. seems to work.

o When plugged in, I can access it through itunes. Just not work it manually.

    Thanks for any help!

  • God bless u my friend... I was about to go bananas... :D

  • I used ur video to double check I was doing it right.

I'm still having issues after I tried to restore all my factory settings, I can do all of that minus seeing the slider and stuff, and when I try to restore it says downloading and I finally get an error message when its all done.

  • THANK YOU DUDE!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! 5/5

  • thx dude 5 stars

  • what if it wont restore and it says due to error (14)? shit man,

  • Are you shift+clicking restore?

  • Same problem here :/

  • Well, what firmware are you trying to restore to?

  • i try with 3.0 and 3.1 or w.e the new one is

  • Hmm...

Go into the task manager and get rid of all Apple processes before restoring. So close out of iTunes, open the task manager, and then close any processes that deal with Apple, iTunes, and iPod.

    Then retry the restore.

  • would this recalibrate the accelerometer?

  • It might... I'm not sure though.

There's nothing wrong with trying though, is there?

  • I love you mine was in that black screen white text loop and you showed me how to get out of it by pressing home and plugging it in!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

  • I don't think you are putting your ipod into dfu mode. I think that is just regular old restore mode, which is different. The screen has to be completely black (like your ipod is off) for it to be in dfu mode.

  • he's right. dfu mode should not have that itunes usb screen... touchmaster?

  • i cant restore my itouch because of error 1611 :(

  • I cant restore either, everytime I restore my ipod turns off and I get error 1611, it would be great if some one helped us.

  • actually i had to get mine reprogrammed twice for it to be fixed, so if you want it fixed go to someone good with ipods to reprogram it thats the only way i know of to fix this

  • Did you fix it? I have this same problem.

  • Make sure you've closed all of the processes like iTunes and anything that says Apple... That's usually the cause of this error.

And umm... If that doesn't work, reboot.

If THAT doesn't work, reinstall iTunes.

  • i actually did, it had to get reprogrammed

  • fuck my itouch was working fine yesterday and then the battery die when my sister give it back to me i rebooted and the white screen came on but then got stuck then i re did it and now it wont work the pc wont recognize it anymore can someone help me

  • I Also cant restore my itouch, it says " Software for this ipod is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of itunes" What Can I Do? PLZ Help!

  • yeah i downloaded a firmware a restore thing happened and u enter dfu mode and then try to restore

  • my dfu mode doesnt work, ipod wont turn off, i tried hundreds of times, HELP!!

  • Your iPod DOESN'T turn off? EVER?!

If it does (by holding the power button and sliding to shut off) you can just follow the last couple of steps. It should work just fine.

  • doesnt work for me, my comp see's my ipod as restore position and i have the Error 14 while restoring

  • I'll do some research on the error, tell you what I come back with.

  • Thanks!

  • Help me pleas,

i have a iPod Touch 2Gen and im Jailbreaking it starded to day and i put it in DFU mode but now it is not even beeing recognized so i can't restore or do the step to Jailbreak do you know what i can do??

  • Check your messages ;)

  • Well, first, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed ;)

    After that, reboot your computer.

    Try again ;)

  • my home button is broke what now how do i restore ipod touch

  • I think that you're SOL now... Are you sure that your home button is broken?

You can still restore using iTunes though. You're just stuck without a jailbreak?

If your iPod is still in warranty, you can get it replaced by Apple, more than likely free of charge.

  • This was given as a gift to me by my father from Singapore, and i'm in the Philippines so i don't know if this will be covered here in the warranty, i'm so bummed out, do you have any other resolutions? pls HELP!

  • I think that the warranty would cover that. I don't see why not. All you'd have to do is explain that it was a gift from your father, and they should accept it regardless.

  • help my ipod isnt responding to anything i do, nothing but black screen, and when i plug it in to itunes i get the error code 1619 ? please help

  • First do this:

Open up iTunes, then connect your iPod. It should be recognized.

If that doesn't work, then reinstall iTunes.

  • i have tried this already. if i click restore, it will process "preparing iPod for restore" then after several minutes it will say "the iPod could not be restored an unknown error occured 1604" and then i tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes, still does te same thing. i only had this ipod for a couple of weeks so when i checked my itunes it's still the latest version. My problem only happened last night.

  • when ur in itunes shift+click the restore button and browse for the firmware

  • when i let go of the home button it says "colleys Ipod" canot connect until passcode is resseved help me please.....

  • I take it that you have a passcode on your iPod? I'd suggest connecting to iTunes, there's a way to get rid of the passcode by using iTunes. But I think that you have to restore for that... If you're not in DFU mode though, you can get rid of the passcode by going into settings and getting rid of it.

  • will you help me with my ipod? It wont sync restore error(1604) and the keyboard freezes after 4 presses.. ill do anything

  • I suggest you restart your computer, that usually helps with a 1604 error. As for the keyboard freezes, is it your computer or your iPod? If it's the latter, I suggest rejailbreaking to 2.2 (YOU CAN DO THAT NOW!!!! ^_^). You won't have to worry about that after an upgrade.

  • thx man saved my life this shit works 100%

  • Thank you! This worked for me!

  • Thanks so much for people on the internet!! Saved my ipod from the apple boot logo because of dfu!! :D

    Thanks!!!

  • ok this is my poblem...my iphone was already unlocked..it has a Tmobile chip in it..but is disconected...and i stupidly clicked on a update..now itunes asks me to put a original chip into the iphone and i tried using ur method but its not working when it gets to the dfu restore mode i do wat u tell in the video to do...but itunes does not go into recovery mode...what do i do

  • Aa i know in the DFU mode the ipod´s screen have to turn just black isn´t it, so your proces is to put the device in recovery mode!!!!

  • thnxs man life safer ive subscribed

  • this isn't dfu mode!!! this is recovery mode

  • Fine. Call it what you want, but I learned this to be DFU mode.

  • When Im In Itunes and it says preparing for restore it comes up with a error saying The Iphone 'Iphone' could not be restored an unknowin error has occured (1602)

  • Restart iTunes, and your computer. Also, try rebooting your iPhone.

  • this is recovery mode DFU mode is when the screen is black

  • you rock man...

  • he is a wanabe of ipodtouch master

  • Of course I'm a wanna-be of iPodTouchMaster. If I wasn't, that would mean that I didn't want to be good at hacking my iPod touch and giving instructions.

  • DFU mode is when the ipod screen doesnt turn on

  • No, DFU mode is sort of like a deeper restore. It is like a complete wipe of your iPod.

  • No, when your screen is black.

  • i need help on how to enable my i pod touch i bought it and dont know the password i kept putting one in to much and it disabled

  • well, I have no idea how you can reenable an iPod Touch. I've never had to. But, the password for 1.1.1-1.1.2 is dottie and the password for 1.1.3+ is alpine (no caps). I suggest restoring and trying again?

  • Actually, the root password for 1.0.0 - 1.0.2 is 'dottie' and 1.1.x is 'alpine' ;-)

  • Oh, well then I guess that that post that I read about firmware passwords was wrong ;)

  • You guys don't get what he means. He got his iPod from the store and it was passcode protected. When the incorrect passcode is provided too many times in a row, the iPod disables itself for 1 minute, then 5 minutes, then 30 I think. If I were you I would complain to the store and have it returned. Apple screws up a lot with it's packages sometimes.
