I have a compost pile, and I turn it everyday. It's in a chicken wire silo, and the stuff on the bottom is hard to turn. It's been there for a few months, and it doesn't look like coffee grounds yet. What am I doing wrong? Can you help me out? Thank you!
You are turning the compost to often. It heats up better if you turn it weekly. You might also add some green & brown materials & get microbes active again. A pile of brown leaves alone will not break down well. Add grass and other green stuff & you'll get things working again. Mix compost well & let sit for a few days. Then check to see if it is heating up. If so, leave it for a few more days and check it again. If it is still hot, maybe mix it a little to get some oxygen in there.
