This is probably a retarded question, but I've seen pics of Rob, how does he have such developed biceps and pecs while it seems his concentration is on Olympic lifting? Just curious how those groups are activated and developed this way.
Broz im not sur if this is a question tht get asked alot but how do ur athletes eat while they go thru prep just curious becuz i imagine their bodies go thru serious demands under the daily training they endure.
I'm currently 22yrs old weighing in at 165.5lbs and i'm trying to build some strength in my legs. I've been working out since high school but that was about 7yrs or so ago i think. Anyway, if you don't mind, could you give me a few pointers on my sets a reps range, you know things of that nature? I would greatly appreciate it.
When I'm maxing my squat (every day) I go for a PR every time. Do you do this in squats? Like, go for the highest weight possible or do you go by reps (etc. 3x3, 5x1 increasing weight)?
I'm just starting to get into olympic lifts, however there are no coaches that could teach me them at the college I go to, ditto with my home town. Is it possible to learn the lifts by yourself, or does it really require a coach?
I've been so close to hit 200 kg in the front squat myself. Nice to see Rob does it so easily coming off of surgery.
I got a question, I've had these periods where heavy lifting just puts me more and more into this state of weakness in my lifts, i.e. I lift heavy every day but each workout I feel weaker and weaker. I'm also training MMA and conditioning aswell, so I'm often up at 3 training sessions a day at most, but usually I still progress strength-wise. These periods seem to be at random.
Hey Coach Broz, I've been doing squats for the past 6 months, following starting strength program(squating 3x a week). However my squat gains since i started out is very mediocre. My working sets are stuck at 80kg x 5 with bodyweight of 70kg...
What's your opinion of doing paused squats?Do they help in difficulty getting out of the bottom position?Should I switch to paused squat or just stick to regular squats?
I want to become stronger but I don't know where I am doing wrong. Thanks for your time!
Broz, how do most of your lifters place their feet when squatting? I'm having a hard time finding the spot that yields the best results. Feet shoulder width? Toes pointing at a 45 degree angle? Pointing straight ahead? And does the stance change from front squat to back?
@BROZKNOWS at your volume of squats is it normal to have sore knees once in awhile if its not painful? do you guys have any powerlifters at your gym now? you said you had one once but i was wondering if the low bar vs high bar made a difference or not. thanks though look forward to your new site. hope pat does well at pan ams
Has he been doing any of the lifts or even pulls or is that dynamic movement too much for his knee right now? I've noticed he is moving with a lot more "caution" you could say.
love watching these videos! John you got me off of bullshit isolation exercises into doing real lifts. I front squatted 275 lbs today for the first time and was stolked hahahaha
Coach, what's your opinion on grinding reps/daily maxes? With the exception of a few lifts, most of your clips show lifters moving fairly fluidly with max attempts. I understand the idea is to always move as fast as possible, but do you ever stop a lifter when his lifts become to slow/ to much of a grind? Thanks.
@wpowers814 yes - when positions start to give or when I know it's gonna be a super super grind then I hold them back. Most times they learn to hold positions well even at max - and that is the key to being a good lifter.
@BROZKNOWS Coach, a question: I've been working up to a single (448 or less) then dropping to 315 and starting triples and working up to doubles then a new single (which is always less). Seems to be working...is this right? should I be throwing in sets of 5 ever?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
PS when I started my olympic max back squat (no no no style) was under 400. It's a lot of work but I'm a believer, just want to tweak what I'm doing to maximize my results!
I gave up on Olympic weightlifting and i wish i hadn't, but it's really hard to find a oly club where i live in the UK! Do you believe you can teach yourself, or would you strongly advise me finding a club? Cheers
I'm curious to how you're training Rob to get back into lifting heavy weights? All these lifts looks incredibly easy and I've seen him handle heavier on your channel. Are you squating until pain or just keeping the weight lower? and for how long are you doing this? Also what about olympic lifts? Full lifts or Power? Low percentage or no violent moves at all(olympic lifts)? Any supplementary exercises? I know you're not a big fan of that :)
@Tilbythegreat just testing the waters as I watch his positions and comfort level with going under the bar in both squats and the lifts. I'm playing it by ear and adjusting his programming daily to what I think he needs each day to make steady, safe improvements. Nothing set in stone. When he looks comfortable and has a work capacity again, then I will increase intensity, volume and lifts accordingly.
John do you put a huge emphasis on toe position? I feel it more in my quads when toes are facing frontal. Whereas in my back squat toes out. Then I feel it in my hamstrings. What is your opinion on this? Most people do front squats toes out but like Rob I prefer in.
@Pandaball163 I wasn't being sarcastic. I could have answered a simple NO, but in reality it all depends on the individual. If you can turn your feet different ways and feel better then someone else then great. The Squat is an assistance for the S and CJ so feet position is not crucial as long as you can go ATG comfortably and get up with big barbells.
@BROZKNOWS hmm, thats interesting. It seems like the squat becomes such an important aspect of ones training that its easy to forget that it is just an assistance lift. So yeah, as long as you get that ATG who cares how you get there... You are wise Broz, I have much to learn.
i cant even do half that

I've been dropping to about 80% of the max for the day and doing sets of 5 or more reps.
