yeah in this video you can see the difference of shredding with technique and poser shredding.. blues/jazz players often criticize shredders as fast players without phrasing.. but paul is different from the others... paul has a technique in doing his style.. and also petrucci
Holy F-ING EPIC!!!! I was tapping my foot so hard near the bed post I just woke up my wife from a dep sleep!!! LOL PAUL you are GOD!!! thanks so much for this gift!!
He got way better, way more feeling and less super speed picking. Truly transformed his playing. I liked the song before but he plays it with so much more feel now. I have never seen someone leave that technical stuff behind and get emotional so late in their career.
You give Paul a song.. he plays it in any way... he is way creative... but the best part is Paul has always been honest with his playing... no cheating....
Paul Gilbert is a cheater. He cheats in order to obtain his perfect playing. Don't fall for the lies, folks. He uses that "practice 24 hours a day" cheat code before every show.
@TheVesselkyt OMFG… They are not at all the same… I am a huge fan of Buckethead but I can't deny that Paul is faster than him… They are both insanely great musicians… but to me I think Buck puts more emotion and feeling into his music rather than shredding…
Amazing how Paul's technical ability never waive with time. In fact, he seems to get better as he ages, especially musically. Just my 2 cents. Cheers.
What has he done!?! I'll tell what he did. He took an iconic instrumental and morphed it into a new direction. An ab-so-lute-ly AMAZING performance. The ode to Comfortably Numb was an excellent touch too. Paul Gilbert is one of the most innovative and creative guitarists in the world.

I wish he would continue this solo for like an hour... I could listen to it over and over again. It's so tasty.

oh jesus shit.
One day he'll play it backwards. from the solo ending at E, all the way back to the beginning 5/8 drum beat.

@JamesWWinter The ode to Comfortably Numb? The song has always shared the same chord progression as Comforartly Numb in the middle.
