I understand that we need to keep with the times and move forward but NOT with Tesco!!!!!! Besides, I'd rather have Asda or Morrison's, as Tesco's gone downhill in my opinion, especially their Online deliveries!
Penistone is a market town, or rather it was - soon to look like every other Tesco town. There was loads of objections against Tesco which BMBC ignored. Tesco effect already happening 3 shops have shut recently and of course no one is going to invest now. More pollution, more traffic, less free parking, less green space, house price drops for those living near, locally owned businesses closed down, less employment and a boring high street. Thanks BMBC for ruining Penistone.
Tesco's destroyed the area i live in....population 35000 and has 3 large tesco stores. one of wich is 24 hrs, the town centre is dying a slow death....every little helps, it would help if they would fuck right off!
the fire station has NOT gone. its moved. i live in one of the houses right next to it. nobody shops in penistone for their weekly/monthly shopping. the market is a doss and were still going to have the local stalls! and the showground will still be there, just..... BEHIND tesco. the worlds is changing, and penistones getting left behind!
I agree! There are less & less people using the local shops as more & more people come in. I rarely shop in penistone anymore due to the outrageous costs. I can shop at Asda, online, and get 3 times what I used to get in the coop for the same money and its DELIVERED lol!
With the amount of Online shopping thats done these days anyway I'm not altogether sure if any of the LOCAL supermarkets will last much longer & I think Tesco should rethink a STORE anyway, missed the boat maybe!

Penistone is a small town and doesent want big developments like tesco we'r allright as we are with the co op and the spar. A little town like penistone doesent want apartments and superstores !! ! !

I thought that the project would be a lot smaller. I notice that the Bridge and the White Heart will both disappear and they've just spent all that money renovating and refurbing the pubs. I'm all for a Tesco in Penistone, as the Spar and the Co-op are really expensive, and a bit of competition should sort them out. But I agree with SHYTALKER that it would completely spoil the traditional feel of our MARKET town. So scale it down a bit and then come back with new plans.
I think you need to watch the video again! It starts from the bridge just after the police station so why do you think the bridge & white heart will be gone?
As for the size I think its the right size but its in the wrong place. We should keep our showground, I think the area near the train station would be a better place for it gives easy access for surrounding villages serviced by the train line as well!
A lot of Penistone people want the good stuff in the plan but the Tesco is huge, will dominate the town and spoil the Showground. It will be the first Penistone thing visible from any of the main roads. Completely out of character with our rustic and stone-built market town.
It is good that the council is listening to Penistone people at last. The idealised and unreal Dransfield video looked good though.
Me and my family have been trying to get this super market for ages. my Grandma has been trying to do everything she can to help.. but no success.. read chronicle today and it does sound good.. we got pictures of the developments in the post a while ago and went to see plans which but it was good but its nice to see the simulation..

As of this moment probably not! Town council have done a uturn! Where they were 60/40 for they are now 80/20 against!
This has been on the books since at least 1991 that I know of and nothings happened yet so don't hold your breath!
