  • Browing 1911 .22

  • Big Fan of your reviews.

    Question.

I want a hand gun that can be used for defense from large wild life (deer, bear, wild pig...). Amo woud be hard lead I guess (for penetration). Needs to be not large size gun. Reliable and work wothout cleaning for weeks (ak 47 equivalent). Preference goes to smalles/lightest gun.

    Thank you

  • Try out for Top Shot!!!! Thumps up if you think Hickok is a shoe in.

  • If you are thinking about buying a PPQ, stop thinking and just get it. It will become the best polymer pistol you've ever owned in a very short time.

  • Would it be possible to do a review on the PPK?

  • You have probably mentioned this a miilion times, but how many yards is it to the "gong"?

  • Just picked up this gun and I love it already

  • Have you ever done a review of the Sig Sauer P250? I would be interested to see how it does with your rapid-fire testing.

  • lol the slow mo at the end reminded me of vats

  • He always laughs when he hits a soda bottle. Gotta love Hickok45

  • Got one!!!!! Love it!!!! Perfection is not an over statement.

  • Extremely fun and informative video as usual! You had me smiling from ear to ear. I will purchase a PPQ. Thanks for keeping it interesting and fun!

  • I bought one a few months ago. At the time GoG would not commit to offering me additional mags. Where can I get additional mags? At a decent price.

  • I am envious of your range.

  • Great reveiw as usual! This might be my next 9mm!

  • @rossifumifan1 It's my newest and after 20 or so different pistols having been in my possession over the years it's become my new favorite. You really can't go wrong!

  • slo-mo at the end is the best, hahaha!

  • how much does this gun cost?

  • @coasterfreak456 MSRP is $599 just for a reference point

  • Trigger love at 6:59

  • MAKE EM SING SIR!!! :-)

  • Shot my buddies PPQ First Edition yesterday, very nice shooting little gun. We ended up doing a small tribute to hickock after one of the guys at the range said handguns were not effective past 50 ft. After we rang an 8" gong at 125yds time after time he decided to shut up.

  • whats the kick like on this gun?

  • This is one neat pistol. Have heard lots about it and finally got some play time with it at my local shooting range. Quality firearm. Love my HK P30 too much, but really considering adding one of these to the collection.

  • Nice review HICKOK. Looks like your new favorite toy.

  • I personally prefer that style mag release because its easier to access without changing your grip, because i have my thumbs far down the slide.

  • Bought one today. Wife and I did our own thing for the morning for Valentine's Day. She went and got pampered like a queen all day and I bought my new PPQ. Great pistol. I'm blown away by the whole package. Everything about it is fantastic, and even the box and overall presentation all exude an air of pure quality. Love it. It's the first striker fired pistol I've found that I like as much as my Glock. Now for the wife and I to spend the evening together. Great holiday.

  • @IMBW89 awesome glad you love it.

  • I love that magazine. Is that a Walther magazine that has the push down thing for faster loading?

  • "Hmm runs out of bullets...That's ok, we have more." and "Wounded him, had to finish him off haha". Should lines in the next great action movie.

  • BTW, you're a good shot. That rapid fire "blew" me away. Wow.

  • Are you able to compare the trigger pull to the Walther PPS? I've been researching this since it came out. I am looking for a 40 cal gun to add to my collection alongside my 380 and my Walther PPS. The only complaint I have with the PPS is a very heavy trigger pull.

  • what´s the diferent between gray ammo and gold???

  • @donkey979 The "gold" ammo is brass casing and the "gray" is a steel casing. The steel is cheaper priced ammo. I personally try to shoot brass in everything, except my AK. Hope that helps. If I am wrong, someone else can chime in.

  • @fast81bu The "gold" ammunition is brass but the "grey" is not steel, its aluminum cased Blazer. It is somewhere between brass and steel cased ammo in quality and price. I run nothing but brass, I dont like aluminum because i have had extractors tear the sholder off of the spent casing leaving it traped in the chamber, I cannot comment on steel cased ammunition as I have never used any, I am a little afraid of it because it is so much harder than aluminum or brass.

  • @mustangman198 It's not much harder anyways. My experience has been with low quality steel cased ammo and while it doesn't break anything, it's very inconsistent and is basically only good for plinking. I'd rather spend my money on brass cased ammo and save and reload the cases, while using aluminum cased ammo for classes where I can't pick up my cases.

  • @fast81bu You're right. Thing about brass is it's a flexible metal. It expands and then snaps back into place. Very elastic. Steel on the other hand is not. During expansion it can get stuck in a tight fitting chamber. Another thing is that they are harsh on the extractor, ejector, and chamber. Lastly, some steel casing are coated for proper functionality with laquer and can become corrosive if not cleaned right away.

  • @khyoon14 you are full of misinformation. Laquer isnt the corrosive part of the ammo, its the primer. The newer steel cased stuff is coated in polymer, not laquer. though its the same color. You can not reload aluminum or steel cased ammo what so ever. One hit wonder they are.

  • @Duckyistrippin Yeah, I heard some being coated with polymer. For information sake, what is it about the primer that is corrosive? And the aluminum/steel casings not being able to reload with I already knew...

  • @Duckyistrippin Oh, and not all of my information was misinformation. ;)

  • @khyoon14 Sure it was, Accumulation of lacquer causes stuck cases and "rim" separation. Old military garbage used corrosive chemicals in the primers. They dont "become" corrosive, they are always corrosive and if not cleaned after shooting will erode the bore of the rifle. Just google corrosive primers and you will learn more than you ever wanted to know about it. You almost have to go out of your way to find that stuff anymore. Just clean your gun everytime you shoot it and dont worry at all :)

  • @donkey979 gold = brass. Best to use along with nickel plated brass. Gray = Aluminum. Cheaper alternative. Nothing wrong with it but I imagine it's not good to reload with bc of it's lighter tensile strength.

  • @khyoon14 thanks for the info..

  • @donkey979 You bet.

  • If Walther releases a SUBCOMPACT PPQ, I'll bite.

  • @austinguy23 the PPS, they just need to add a few rounds to it

  • i would pay and sign any waiver to shoot on your range!!!

  • I have the PPQ and I sometimes use it as my CCW when I don't want to tote my Glocks but you know there is nothing like the "Hammer" (thats the Glock 30 for those who don't know). My favorite CCW.

  • What a great shot you are..Amazing

  • awesome video this will be my first gun. I have done months worth of research and this will be the one im going to get, found it online for 486!

  • @RoninEnsse yea i saw a few as well ha. i thought i was seein shit at first.

  • My first look too....pretty neat gun. Thanks Hickok

  • hickok where do u get the flipping target pole from at 11:23? its awesome i would love to get one can u tell me where u got one of those

  • hey i have one of those same mag loaders for my pistol too and i luv it saves the thumbs

  • Awsome, you are the man hickok.

  • Adcor Bear

  • I'm right there with you, Hickock. I too love my polymer framed striker fired pistols. All of my shooting friends dismiss my firearms choices as poor taste, but when I can shoot 20 gauge empties off of a stand from 25 feet away with a Glock or M&P with less than 5 rounds while they attempt to do the same for about 5 minutes straight thanks to their stagey DA/SA triggers, they change their tune a bit.

  • @lmia69

  • i bout my PPQ after handling it in my local gun store....everything on the gun is right where it needs to be...and i can preform the 3 main functions (shooting, slide release, mag release) with out changing my grip....the gun is amazing and all of my buddies who have shot it are in love with it...i will say its a tad on the pricey side...but you pay for what you get and you wont be disappointed with this gun.

  • The branding in the slide is horrendous. Looks like something from Toys R Us.

  • @austinguy23 It's been Walther's logo for many, many years. Why change it now? And who cares what the gun looks like? It WORKS.

  • @RSkrilly23 I'd rather have a gun that both works and doesn't look cheesy. You may differ.

  • is the 1911 a smith and wesson? how do you like it

  • thx for ur fun-gun-clips!

i'm lookin for an allround-gun (competitive/fun/defense! no need for conc./every day carry capab. though). figured i'd like: 4,5-5,5" barrel, consistent medium/light trigger pull, durability. i'd prefer striker fired guns, if i hadn't heard that hammerfired ones usually do better in competition (trigger characteristics). so i ve fired the PPQ and i love it! do they sell them with slightly longer barrel/sight radius? how does the p30l (or other) compare to the ppq? thx

  • I have been an outside salesman all my life. I cut my teeth on steel and now work directly for an adhesives manufacturer. I work around metal and low surface energy plastics. The one thing that draws me to the Glock and the Sig Polymer Pistols is the abundance of steel rail surface area in the frame area. The one thing that alarms me about the SR, XD and PPQ is the fact there is much less metal in this critical area of interface. It is probably nothing to worry about but I can't get past it.

  • 0.71% of the the ratings are negative. Very nice.

  • put a soda bottle out by the gong

  • Wow, you can actually see the bullets flying through the air when you're shooting at the gong!

  • Another excellent and comprehensive review. Thanks Hickok!

  • looks alot like a p99

  • hey hickok...great vid. question: when you're transitioning targets really fast like that are you shooting with both eyes open or just dominant? my eyes aren't great and i sometimes get fuzzy holding just one eye open, but haven't trained enough with both eyes open so just wondering what works for you.

Thanks & keep the vids coming...was really excited to see you did the PPQ, picking one up this week!

  • ur cooler than the real hickhock

  • Just purchased one love the trigger it's a great gun . I also have a P99 AS like the PPQ's trigger much better

  • Another fantastic video! Really enjoy your channel!

  • Hmmm runs out of ammo. That's ok we have more. lol love these videos.

  • Just got my 9mm today! Love the trigger reset. I was supposed to be finding a new 9mm pistol for my father and ended up buying one of these for myself... Hope it performs as well as it feels! Hopefully we'll head out shooting thursday!

  • Traded for the PPQ in .40S&W. Great shooting pistol. Walther got this one correct.

  • Do you like the PPQ or the Ruger SR9C better ? I am trying to decide between the two. I really need to know which gun has the more manageable recoil? PLEASE and THANK YOU

  • @TwiztedAgentX I'm a huge Ruger fan (love my SR9 to bits), but I think most people would agree that the PPQ is the superior weapon. Of course, it's also noticeably more expensive, too. Unless you want a gun that can be concealed better (SR9c), the Walther PPQ would be a better gun.

  • Great review and shoot, thanks for making your videos

  • i think im actually gonna wait for them to come out with a subcompact or a compact version with a shorter grip like the xdm 3.8 compact. but watching this video again makes me want to go ahead and buy it~ lol

  • i love how the gun tilts up when you put it down on a table! i guess they made it that way cause its faster to slide your hand under the pistol and set your hands instead of grabbing it from the top and then setting it. i love that feature! Man, i really want to pull the trigger and buy it! it will go well with my hk usp!

  • 0:39 nice shot !

  • oh man. i read "BBQ" rather than "PPQ" :P

  • @ubercoolman7 so use a PPQ to get you somthing for yor BBQ :)

  • @ubercoolman7 hickok45 now has a cooking show :P

  • just got mine cant wait to use it

  • Finally! A nice word from Hickok45 on a Walther PPQ. I owned P99 QA before, a solid , well made gun. The only issue I had back then with a QA trigger is that is just a bit too tight and long for my relatively short fingers. I still regret that I sold it, I hope PPQ's new trigger system would be a much better fit for me. Ordering it next week. Thanks Hickok45

  • Do you use frangible ammo? Also if you could test the FNH 5.7mm

  • i picked mine up 2 weeks ago in 9 mm. i love it, i never shot as well at 20+ yards as i have with this gun :) my only complaint even with the 15 round mags is it runs out of bullets fast! lol its a joy to shoot

  • Hey, Hickok, what's up with it running out of bullets??? I am just glad you had more...plenty more bullets...awesome shooting! Just watching you reload the mags makes me think I need to get one of those speed loaders. Go Hickok on the rapid fire...Cool! Great Video!

  • Awesome review. I'll be buying one as soon as they're available in Alberta! (Hopefully soon!!)

  • GREAT REVIEW MY HERO. KEEP IT GOING.

  • Hey Hickok, have you ever tested out the "Coonan .357", i was on the range with it the other day and i think your other subscribers might enjoy a video on it. :-)

  • "Happiness is a warm barrel."

  • What is the significance of the black gold "PPQ" and "walther" lettering on the side of the gun? I have only seen solid black lettering.

  • That's the problem with alot if guns "they run out pf bullets" lol

  • Love at 6:50 when you start walking and all you can hear is the crunch of about 3-4" of empty shells.

  • Thanks for the video. Very informative and enjoyable.

  • looks like a sweet shooter

  • You can shoot.

  • @hickok45 Do you think the PPQ is to big for CCW for most? Haven't found one locally yet... Thanks.

  • @CajCoo no its plenty small seems about g19 size but a little thinner

  • This WILL be my next gun. Can't wait!

  • " Happiness is a warm barrel" im stealing that quote lol.

  • Hickok, I'm so glad you finally did the PPQ. I got my PPQ .40 S&W last July and I love it. I've put well over 1000 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever. I posted a video of me shooting a magazine through it under the title Walther PPQ .40 S&W shooting.

  • Mr. Hickock, See if you can get Ruger to send you a new S.R.22 pistol to T.&E. I would love to see what you think of it.

  • I need to set up a range like yours lol

  • are there any reliability issues with this gun? none during the video, just curious if anyone has had issues

  • @3:52 you can see the bullet in flight just before it hits the right of the round plate

  • So far in our PPQ quality poll, the PPQ is proving that the majority think it's a good gun while there have been a few with a problem.

  • @MrNeedsdecaf

    Yes!!

Out of 47 PPQ owners only ONE reported a minor problem that was fixed under warranty. Buy a new PPQ with confidence!! The other 46 PPQ owners are very impressed with quality and reliability.

  • I love the sound made when he walks around.

  • should've called it bbq!

  • Hey Hickok try the Taurus 1911 9mm it looks like a fairly new gun. I haven't seen to many videos on it, I always enjoy the videos keep up the awesome work.

  • German Gun technique!

  • kickok, youre videos always make me want some sort of green colored soda

  • hmmm, it would be pretty hard to find one, but you should try doing a review on the cheytac M200 intervention

  • Gotta love the sound of the brass hitting the deck in slow motion... Yeehaw!

  • I'll take two "happiness is a warm barrel" t-shirts, please.

  • What is that he was using to load the magazines at 2:10? Really curious can anyone tell me?

  • @counkev UPLULA Mag loader HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • Great video sir I never get tire of watching I learn something every time, what's the name of the thing toy use to quick load the magazine?s it looks like it makes the job much easier. Thanks in advance GOD bless

  • When is he going to do the mossberg 802 plikster

  • I would love to see a video of the Benelli Supernova

  • Far I understand the p99 mags work in this gun. There is a 30 rd extended mag for the p99 that should work in this ppq. The idle sounds fun.

  • sorry im a noob, but are you using FMJ ammo on those steel plates?

  • when are we going to see a SIG SP2022 review??

  • @MichaelBrust88 I have one, actually it's my only Sig. The trigger sucks - but I'm not saying that because I have a PPQ. To me the SP is a good home defense/carry gun as it has that long trigger travel. It's a nice gun, mine came with night sights installed and was reasonably priced. I looked at 226/229s and didn't want to spend that much coin on a plastic gun, but overall the SP2022 is reliable. Although I'm not entirely certain Sig actually makes it.

  • @MichaelBrust88 I have one. Not a range treat as the trigger is more defense/carry oriented. (Long travel) but it's got a decocker which I like on a carry gun. Mine came with night sights installed and was VERY reasonable.

  • walther p99? Pretty please with a cherry on the top?

  • I love my Walther PPQ! Great review and shooting Hickok45! Thanks for doing this one. I knew you'd love it!!

  • In the interest of fairness, I've started a poll on Walther Forums asking owners to vote on how they feel about the quality of their PPQ. I reccomend checking it out.

  • That's PPQ........ stupid droid

  • My carry gun is a 1911 but I could shoot my POW all day...... and have!

  • My next is a Para 1911. I would love your feedback.

  • So glad you tried the PPQ. Got mine in Oct. Asked you to try it. I thought you might like it. I lovvvve it. It shoots ANYTHING. My first 9mm. What a hoot to shoot!!!!!

  • 13:35 "Happiness is a warm gun". The Beatles and I agree with you on that one, Hickok45 :-)

  • go to 10:30 for a perfect mag - interesting gun since I had the P99 I should give it a try. Your aim is amazing, hitting the gong with the last bullet made go WOW! :)

  • Hickok do you have something against sheet metal?

  • Love it at 6:53...Machine Gun Pistol Matrix Time for Hickok45. This seems to be a great gun. Thanks for showing it off.

  • By far my favorite video...EVER!!! It would be such a dream come true to have a huge property where I could set up targets and shoot all day! Even if I only had 1 pistol. You da man Hickock45!

  • Slide to frame fit on my PPQ is no worse than my gen 3 Glock.

Are people expecting a match pistol?

  • Do a comparison video with the Glock 19.

  • Your videos are addicting.

  • Hey Hickok you should try a review of the Five SeveN, another of many great guns coming out of Belgium. It's a light polymer frame with a nasty little bullet.

  • @JTWilliams74 that would be something someone would have to give to hickok, a 5-7 cost about around 1-2k

  • what is the silver gun on the table?

  • @mblanke10 looks like his series 80 1911, but I am probably wrong

  • @mblanke10 Some kind of 1911, can't tell much more than that from the distance the camera is at though.

  • Guys, be sure to go have a look on the "Walther Forums". There are some serious build and quality control issues going on with Walther and the PPQ. Thread titles are, "Stains on new PPQ finish", and "PPQ slide to frame fit". The stains are bad enough, but just ugly. However, the sloppy and inconsistent slide fit is really bad news. Too bad, because I was all set to purchase this gun.

  • @TheSentinelGuardian, Could be a problem; however, if you read all the forums, you'll see the same stuff on every gun out there, Glocks, Colts, Springfields, Sigs, etc.

  • @TheSentinelGuardian

I am a member of the Walther forum.

There was a very few isolated cases of problems with finish out of the thousands sold recently.

As far as slide to frame fit it is fine. The PPQ is a comabt pistol and many combat pistols will rattle a little bit when shaken hard from side to side. Those that complained did NOT have any functional problems and reported that their PPQs were very accurate. Remember it is the barrel to slide lockup that is important in accuracy.

    I

  • @9MMP226 First of all you are assuming that every person that has ever purchased a PPQ and had a problem with it has joined the Walther forums and complained in those threads there, which is obviously wrong. As for the slide "looseness", if it wasn't a build quality and quality control issue, then there wouldn't be such wide ranging differences and variations form one product to the other, but there is. If you don't care about it; good for you, but others surely do, and I'm one of them.

  • @TheSentinelGuardian

Pretty funny that you know so much about so called problems with the PPQ and you don't even own one!! Oh well your loss.

  • @9MMP226 Oh, yeah, that's right, unless you own one, you have no right to speak about one, unless it's flattering speech of course. *megafacepalm*

  • @TheSentinelGuardian The PPQ slides are hand matched at the factory. Each PPQ is different in that respect. I compared both of my PPQs (one is a 9mm, the other is a .40) with two other PPQs and my barrels don't fit exactly the same in the other slides but are pretty darn close to make no difference.

I tried my XDM 45 "match grade" barrel in another XDM 45 and there was even more difference. But the bottom line is this - the guns function perfectly well.

  • @TheSentinelGuardian I have two PPQs. and both are fine. There are others on Walther Forums who own more than one as well and though issues arise, it's nothing new. As mentioned below, you can look at any firearm forum and see posts about problems with guns. It should be noted that S&W handles repairs for Walther firearms, and they're excellent in the customer service department.

2 PPQs in my home, both great.

  • @MrNeedsdecaf

Well said about someone who actually OWNS a Walther PPQ - actually TWO of them as many PPQ owners do.

  • @9MMP226 Thanks, I can't stand when people make assumptions about something they've never even seen in person. I have to admit though that one of my PPQs has a blem on the finish. It's hard to see, but it looks like it wasn't dried long enough.

For anyone looking at a PPQ, check it over BEFORE accepting the transfer. If you notice something is wrong, refuse and request a replacement.

  • @TheSentinelGuardian, doesn't exist without a youtube video proving it :p

  • @TheSentinelGuardian No stains on mine, and its only going to get worse with holster wear cause I have chosen this fine piece as my CCW. As for the sloppy slide fit, I have experienced no such issue. Just my 2 cents from somebody who has shot 1500 rounds of varying grains and pressures, FMJ's, and JHP's with ABSOLUTELY 0 MALFUNCTIONS.

  • @Taktical11 It appears that there is quite a bit of inconsistency as far as the slide fit goes from one gun to the next. I'm glad you've got a great one!
