actually when you look at the video taken from behind the goalie you should notice that the defenders stick hits his blade and that's when he falls. if you pause it on 00:35 and play it you can see. and also when you curve at a 50-60 degree angle and somebody pushes from behind, which you can also see the defender doing after he falls behind, it is more than likely to lose balance due to the laws of physics.
Um Look at the angle when he comes towards you, he was, and also i don;t know if you play hockey or not but when you cut in like that and someone is trying to check you like that you usually do, especially when their stick is wrapped around your legs.
It doesn't matter if hamrlik would have done something different or if price might should have been in a better position.. they weren't and Ovie scored another spectacular goal! He might have number eight on his jersey but he absolutley is number one!

If you took any of the young talent today and put them in the old NHL days, in my honest opinion, they would break Waynes point total.
Im talkin Sid, Alex, Malkin, Toews etc. but you will never see anyone come close to 200pts again. Not with the skill of the goalies, the defensemen and scouting of the team style of play these days. Theyre too talented to allow it, but perfectly capable of it. And Detroit fell off this year. They went 6 games last yr and beat us, TIRED is an excuse.
Also, the goalies have much bigger pads, so there's less room to shoot. But this is also true with any sport. Humans have gotten much bigger over the last few decades. But it's the players like Gretzky, Babe Ruth, etc. that have changed the history of the sport, and that's what they're remembered for.
If thats crosby he would automatically start diving looking for the call but look at Ovechkin stays with the play and gets the second best goal of the year behind franzens... that was nasty
In terms of athletic ability and skill he is far and above gretzky. Gretzky saw the ice like no other, but he also had the 3 other best players in the league on his team during his peak, and the goalies weren't exactly the same skill level as they are now. Ovechkin won't break Gretzky's amazing records, but he is a better player.
I agree 100% that Ovechkin is the better athlete of the two. And Ovechkin is without a better allround player than Wayne was.
But non of those things equal achievenemt. Wayne had the numbers to prove he was the best. actually when you look at the video taken from behind the goalie you should notice that the defenders stick hits his blade and that's when he falls. if you pause it on 00:35 and play it you can see. and also when you curve at a 50-60 degree angle and somebody pushes from behind, which you can also see the defender doing after he falls behind, it is more than likely to lose balance due to the laws of physics.

Um Look at the angle when he comes towards you, he was, and also i don;t know if you play hockey or not but when you cut in like that and someone is trying to check you like that you usually do, especially when their stick is wrapped around your legs.

The other thing u have to look at is now we have Rbk 10k sickkicks and Nike-Bauer One95 sticks and Vapor XXXX (just a few sry if there wrong i havent got a new stick in awhile) but anyways Gretzky and Bobby Orr used wood. Our new composite and graphite or titanium sticks multiply our shot speeds several times over so what ever advantages goalies used to have is being challenged with these advances.

If you took any of the young talent today and put them in the old NHL days, in my honest opinion, they would break Waynes point total.
Im talkin Sid, Alex, Malkin, Toews etc. but you will never see anyone come close to 200pts again. Not with the skill of the goalies, the defensemen and scouting of the team style of play these days. Theyre too talented to allow it, but perfectly capable of it. And Detroit fell off this year. They went 6 games last yr and beat us, TIRED is an excuse.

Also, the goalies have much bigger pads, so there's less room to shoot. But this is also true with any sport. Humans have gotten much bigger over the last few decades. But it's the players like Gretzky, Babe Ruth, etc. that have changed the history of the sport, and that's what they're remembered for.

In terms of athletic ability and skill he is far and above gretzky. Gretzky saw the ice like no other, but he also had the 3 other best players in the league on his team during his peak, and the goalies weren't exactly the same skill level as they are now. Ovechkin won't break Gretzky's amazing records, but he is a better player.

I agree 100% that Ovechkin is the better athlete of the two. And Ovechkin is without a better allround player than Wayne was.
But non of those things equal achievenemt. Wayne had the numbers to prove he was the best. And I know hockey is a different world now than it was 20 years ago, but if you look at how far Wayne's numbers were from the people who played at the same time he did, you see that the gap was unbelieveable. In numbers, currently Ovechkin is the best but only by a little.
