Indie Ghetto: Hip Hip Covers from indie artists... It is just a play of words on a genre of music. Who's really being racial, when you're calling "ghetto" music BLACK music?
I doubt that they came up with that name just because they're performing music that's considered by many people "urban" but rather a way to to describe their music and probably because it's a little catchy.
@emceebisgit Why don't you just call it indieredneck then? Just because things are made into other things doesn't make them ghetto. It doesn't make them redneck either but at least you wouldn't be insulting a race other than your own.
Just because you're covering black music, doesn't mean it's ghetto. Black music not synonymous with ghetto. White people overuse that word and have not the faintest idea what it means.
@tcutie87 I think the ghetto in the desc. refers to the make shift instruments used. we use ghetto over here to describe things made out of other things, sorta. or stuff just thrown together with what you have
@tcutie87 thank you thank you THANK YOU for your post I hate the fact that word has even made it into Pop Culture Thank You for your post I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad somebody finally said that!!! YES THAT WORD IS EXTREMELY OVERUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@tcutie87 Indie Ghetto: Hip Hip Covers from indie artists... It is just a play of words on a genre of music. Since when is ghetto music, black? Just saying.
@goolia86 I'm sure they didn't mean "ghetto" as in jewish ghetto music... do you? I DO know that she made the assumption that "ghetto" was synonymous with black MUSIC.
@tcutie87 But they are covering a song by MISSY ELLIOTT, someone who claims herself to be ghetto featuring Big Boi from OutKast who once released the song GHETTO MUSIC. Ghetto refers to an area of a city (normally a slum area) which contains an ethnic minority. Therefore there is nothing inherently black about the term Indie Ghetto. If you check their channel, there are singers of all ethnicities covering the likes of The Beastie Boys, Gwen Steffani, The Specials etc.

@tcutie87 It's a fair comment, but you make the assumption that 'ghettos' are synonymous with black people.
