we shall not fight these needless wars anymore. we will only fight when we are called to, and the safety of our own country and the world is at stake. war should only be fought when necessary. it has been necessary only a handful of times in history: invasions of israel, the american revolution, and world war 2. God bless all who died on june 6th 1944 and in the entire war protecting freedom for future generations.
Major thank you goes out to the Airborne paratroopers who dropped into occupied territory the night before D-Day. It was their supremely important job to take out artillery (shelling the beach heads) and also to secure bridegs and overpasses.
This saved countless lives and the invasion who have never succeeded without these amazingly brave men.
I love America, my home country, but we have to give props to the British and Canadian soldiers that fought with to save the free world in WWII. This speech goes out to everyone that was apart of this devastating war.
Its time allied our selves again and take down the radical Islamic terrorists and show them that messing with the free people of the world will be the wrong choice. Honor the memories of the fallen.
ive noticed that there is an error....it couldnt have been 175,000 soldiers and 50,000 combat vehicles, it was most likely 5,000 combat vehicles since the us produced 48,000 shermans throughout the entire war.
@TheSoddoma I think you’re underestimating the American resources. The Americans and Russians were producing ridiculous amounts of wartime land and aerial vehicles. The Germans were running out of resources by 1944, on top of the fact they unlike the Americans and Russians, produced quantity over quality. Sure the Germans had superior tanks and planes, just not enough to match the plethora of all the mediocre allied ones. Nazi’s underestimated the industriousness of the allied forces.
Epic scene and epic struggle. The Wehrmacht was indeed the best army in the world at that time, they just had to fight against the whole world. They revolutionized warfare with their tanks, planes and blitzkrieg. To all the "US defeated Hitler with no help" guys out there: the allies where good, but you can't deny that the soviets had to carry the big load as they faced the greater part of the german army since june 1941.
BTW I'm not nazi nor communist, I love civil rights and freedom.
Not to mention the Commonwealth forces. They were the ones who held firmly to their ground, enabling the Allies to stage D-Day from the British island. If not for the strength and courage of the British Empire, there would have been no D-Day and no liberation in Western Europe. Best we could have hoped for was the Soviets to push trough and honestly, that wasn't really liberation, just another conquest. The British took the blows from the air, but they didn't give up.
I love the series, but you know, I just noticed they left the end of the speech out: "Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great
It proves how sad our society has become when this video has 9,000 views and Eisenhower speech about the military industrial complex which was hijacked by conspiracy theorists has 500,000+ views.
I find it amazing that this video can still give me chills, just the erie sound that bombs make as they leave their bombers, and Eisenhower's statement of "We will accept nothing less than full victory". Such an amazing era of American and World History.
For Veterans' Day I actaully spliced this scene's audio and music with epic anime clips and matched most of the sounds and gave it the same feeling of being motivated by it. It too is one of my favorite scenes in WWII in HD.
this speech bring chills to my bone. i feel the presence of Dwight D Eisenhower just by this speech. serving on CVN-69 just make it all that more chilling.
Used this in my APUS History class presentation on Dwight D. Eisenhower. Received an A and my buddy and I (who are war (especially WW2) junkies loved the film) =D Great clip/soundtrack. Made my history teacher cry.
This is my favorite scene in all of WII in HD as well. I love the music that goes with this scene. The whole scene is powerful, along with the music and Ike's speech in the background. D-Day is the greatest event that makes me proud to be an American. Europe is free because many Americans, along with the British and Canadians fought and died to liberate the continent. Freedom in the world lives on thanks to the brave men of the Allied armies who fought on D-Day!
@jordanhistorian well, actually, the invasions of normandy and the bocage wernt key to the allied victory. as soon as the united states entered the war, the clock was ticking for hitler, and he knew it. i mean the landings made a diffrence by putting an army on the ground, but where the army couldnt go, the air core's bombs could.
I really like how they did this piece. Since the Normandy Invasions are so well known and pictured in all types of media, I am glad they didn't do a whole episode on it. However, this is still a very moving piece from a very thorough and moving documentary that still fills its purpose entirely.
Now the History channel should be called "People who look for Crap to turn a Profit on"

@TheSoddoma Not all the combat vehicles were Sherman tanks, they had other types of vehicles.

@TheSoddoma They are saying all of the allies forces, not just the US, and the combat vehicles include jeeps, half tracks, tanks, and supply trucks.
MANlAC451 6 months ago
@MANlAC451 thats still a ratio of 3.5 soldiers per vehicle, it couldn't have been that much.

Bren carriers, halftracks, armored cars etc are also combat vehicles. Bot to mention the wide array of tanks that existed besides the Shermans.
