She is a treasured gift to the composers she interprets and to the
audiences who have had the opportunity to hear her perform in person or via recordings. She's the "go-to" person of the piano. Just a fantastic, fabulous, thrilling musician, pianist, human being!!!! It's not an easy thing to have
had such an exhausting concert career. Thank you so much, Marta, for enriching my musical life. You are truly loved and respected.
Martha was here in Rio (brasil) decades ago with M. Rostropovits and we have the longplay disc from this evening signed by both of them. Today I dont know witsh of the signatures I cherish the most. Shirley

Funny. I first heard this performance of both of these pieces, before I listened to others. As of yet, Argerich is the only one I really like. Other famous pianists play Des Abends and Aufschwung much more rigid. I actually think it's Argerich who is more 'fluid'.
Famous classical pianists can have such weird interpretations. I was used to hearing very conventional, fluid performances of this piece, but Argerich plays with a strangely scattered, stumbling rhythm. It's jarring to me.
And with a lot of pedal too! But then, Schumann is a 'Romantic' genre composer and there is a dark and intense and powerful presence in this music that, for me at least, reacts well to violent treatments of the tempo...as well as to more straightforward and calmer playing too. Basically it's great music with countless wonderful different interpretations possible! Schumann is awesome.
Yes, it is fantastic and is definitely Schumann. If you'll look above you will see that I had made a correction. What do you think of Argerich's performance?
This is some of the first Schumann I've heard and I totally love it. Aufschwung, fantastic piece. I haven't heard anyone else play it yet, but I already feel this will stay my favorite recording.
i've never met her, but i'd kill to spend just a few minutes with her, absorbing some of her greatness. she is one of the few true geniuses living on this planet. so gifted. i saw her in new york in 2007 from the first row and we made eye contact. i still get chills thinking that martha argerich once looked at me.
the same thing happened to me! Right in the front row, I was able to catch her eye, and just the shear presence of such genius is incredible. I'd kill to have a conversation with her...
My friend talked to her after her performance. He got her autograph and a picture with her (how lucky, I'm jealous). He told me she's a very nice person.
@semicolin Well, it's not something a Christian should say, but... I envy you about that. It's so good that she speaks Portuguese, my native language. But I'd spend even the one million dollars I don't have just to see her play. And make eye contact...Gosh!
may be i am wrong, but love her playing in pp more than in ff. i count to her - when she is getting older she will be the best of all. her "bad luck" is, that she can play so easy and so fast. sometimes it is too fast. and martha knows this very well. however - martha argerich is one of the most important and exciting pianist today!
I didn't know people people would say untrue or negative things about her. She is a great talent of the XX century, slightly eccentric, but with unforgettable power and skill.
SCHUMANN PIEACES ARE RAW, I admire her knowledge of the piano(musical) and her ear(gift) for playing, not to mention her desire to execute them with touch sensisty and pace (timing)Her dedication is unreal, so it a lot of classical production I love hearing these interripatations when a great pianist plays incredible, it make you wonder if even the composure would be surprised, u know? how do they come up with this stuff, I would love to know more history on piano and piano music theory n pianst
Where is this recording from? Studio, Live? year? She plays it very very different in the late 70s recording in Amsterdam. I think I like this recording (the posted one) better.
she had a concert in Bucharest Romania at George Enescu Festival and after the concert me and 100 people :)) went backstage and she had a 5 minutes talk with each one of us
