@xGymCouture Its caused from serious injury or illness. I'm not sure exactly how Elena died from it. But she did have a serious injury where she broke her neck and spine I think, before the 1980 Olympics and that most likely caused it. But she did live awhile..she just died in 2006.
I always thought she was the most graceful gymnast I've ever seen.

@xGymCouture She died of quadriplegia. Which means she could not move any part of her body!

Beautiful...her story is so sad, she was such a fantastic gymnast. She competed long before I was born, but she is one of my favorites
