A bunch of people saying, buy a jeep. They do go good, but a 4 runner with the right tires goes just as good. I have a 2wd Toyota truck and i threw some chains onit, and i went theoufh the snow like my parents jeep did.
the RAV4 rules, never mind all the big 4x4's with the snorkels, lifts and dirt tires, its all bollocks, most of these vehicles spend most of their time on tarmac , mine included but can kick ass when the weather gets a bit crappy that is all anyone needs unless you are a park ranger, even then they would probably go home in a ford focus and leave the truck at work
@spideyzx6r Yeah the Rav4 is small but packs a lot of power.
I'm thinking a 4wd V6 and modified slight lift, offroad tires, and maybe a front guard plus auxillary lights for a fully outfitted Rav for rugged terrains and offroading.
Though I'd still prefer a full sized 4x4 truck if you need cargo space and better hauling power.
@FortitudeOfHeaven you are right dude, and don't get me wrong i love cartoon 4x4's with all the gear, i too have ruined the ride of a few of my 4x4's by having them lifted and big wheels, one of my most capable ones was my Nissan Terrano and that was standard apart from the tires. As for load space - 3 lads - 3 mountain bikes - one RAV4, a 2 hour drive from Liverpool to Wales on the road, 10 minute drive off road. perfect :)
Must have been some serious ice and snow for 2 AWD vehicles to barely make it out working together. My Sierra with 2WD and an open diff has only gotten stuck once with all terrain tires and that was an uphill on solid ice. My dad's Grand Cherokee with Quadradrive (permanent 4WD Hi and 4Lo) has never came close to getting stuck, I can stop on a 45 percent grade of snow and start again with minimal tire slip with light truck highway all season tires, it's next set will be all terrains though.
having personally driven and owned a cr-v, the awd system does not suck... but the way both cars were spinning their wheels, i bet if the rolls were reversed, and the rav was were the cr-v was, the cr-v probably would have been pulling it out too... it looks really icy, and i guarantee they are both on all-season (read: equally crappy in all seasons) tires... if either was on A/T's or snow tires they would have had no problems at all
being on snow tires the crv would have probly gotten out on its own, i have an '01 crv but i might trade it in for either a '10 rav4 or forester not sure yet xD
Why do people buy these lightweight toy 4x4s and expect them to handle like a Landcruiser, totally crazy.
