If you can listen to this and not move your feet and get into it just go somewhere and lay down because you are already dead! This is as good as rock gets. Nathan East rocks and Clapton is way off the charts. Next to the Night Owls by LRB this is may favorite rock song! Beats the shit out of the garbage being put out today!!!!!
I am a chef and have worked several of his shows and had the privilege of meeting him and watching the show from stage left. The best show a person can see.
Tearin' Us Apart @ Knebworth...much better with the full band, backup singers, 2nd guitar. And Nathan East really cuts loose with some killer lines on that track. And Eric's solos are so f-ing intense blowing thru the Soldano stage rig. IMHO.
NEC, 1986. I have the Live at montreux '86 DVD. Personally, i think that his set there was better. Took him a while to get into the swing of things though
The cords are danced. D-A-D-A and A-C-A-C-A Chours rolls through G-F-D then G-F-D-C-A . You can tell how many times to repete cach section by listening to the song. Once you get the hang of it it is easy to see what they are doing. Great song I do in one of my sets.
Now this is music, or at least the music I listened to back in the day. Thing is Eric just gets better and better. The crap that kids listen to today I can't call music, I don't know what to call it, but it don't do a thing for me.
it don't get no better than this!! if it doesn't get you moving, a) you don't know a damn thing about rock & roll. b) you're too fucked up to notice. c) you're dead! i've
seen him 4 times, hope to make it 10 before he decides to stop touring. perish the thought!!
Can anyone tell Miami Vice was popular at the time? Dig the neon-colored tees and white shoes! I love it. 80's Clapton is awesome Clapton---his collaboration with Phil Collins on Behind the Sun was some of his best work. Thanks for the post!
today I've listened the song on the radio... and after the first minute even though I hadn't heard it ever I said to myself "That has to be Clapton. Nobody's like him!" :)
E. Clapton and his melancholy permanent, natural and magical. In this video everything and perfectly happy. How was your collaboration with The Who in Eminence front? Extra terrestrial!
Man, Eric and his guys sure can fucking jam on this tune!!! I love this song. This was made to be played live!!! Bands these days just lack something most of the time, but these guys really kick ass!
@mkeywork yes, but unfortunately shows like the hogan family (or whatever its called) and jersey shore have taken precedence over clapton........30 years ago we woulda called that comunism
Everybody gets a 10 here. You really can't get any better than this. My only regret, I wasn't there. Always love seeing Phil on drums. Like pencilskirt95 said thats an awful lot of AAA talent on one little stage.
correct and he did more than complain, he left..i think he wrote some nice pop ballad type songs but his music came from the heart...in his book he mentions this song being about patties friends tearing them apart..whether its blues or pop claptons songs come from a deeper place..and when he performs from that same place its straight sick
I could watch this one every night!

Great song but the 1996 live version with Steve Gadd on drums is IMHO the best ever. Gadd brings it to another level.

And can anyone tell me where's the syncopated clap beat from - the keytar or was it the drums?
papierkorb 2 years ago
It was the keytar in fact, There's a percussionist playing
manubossanova 2 years ago
erm.........it's a sequencer. Collins will have had it in his monitors so he can keep in time with it.
danhale 2 years ago
Yes Probably, i looked again the video they're only 4 on stage, and it sounds like a kind of "handClap" through a sequencer
manubossanova 2 years ago
what is a keytar. Is that a drum machine .. an instrument .. what?

Why not use the technology. As long as you've got muso's of this calibre to put it use, we the listeners are always gonna be the winners.
