  • I have the deepest respect to the Japanese culture but this is still a BULL SHIT! the ship used cannon and directly hit fighter planes

  • @pigpigpigwwf

Stop whinging. It's a show. It happens.

  • @harlequin2262 Actually, I have to disagree. It happens in real life because of the Aegis Combat System. I remember reading that in mere seconds, the system actually plots multiple functions of the plane's probable paths and can directly hit the fighter. That's the scary thing about high-tech war. Humans are getting easier and easier to be destroyed.

  • @JRCitrus

So I've learned. Along with airbursting shells, IIRC.

  • @pigpigpigwwf So? the AEGIS system is capable of using the 120mm gun to hit air targets..its actually such precise and fast that can intercept incoming missiles..if it can hit an aproaching small target at high speed imagine what it can do with a slower far bigger target like a plane..

Still today nobody makes attack runs with planes at close range on ships.. not since the Falklands

  • I think the AA gun would be more accurate because it is computer controled and as I've seen in other videos of that AA gun in action, the bullets that are fire of is going off in a line. Which may take down incoming SM-2, or harpoon missle, right?

  • @EVEMOWALLE In one battle, The british Bombers lost no one going against a Cruiserr, due to the fact the old planes were too slow for the targeting computer to track.... that is correct... They were TOO SLOW TO BE TRACKED. In Vietnam era that problem came up a lot, and may still be partially present. Older planes were FAR more maneuverable then the planes of today, but only went really 200-300MPH. So guns attuned to jets may lack the calibration to target thosek inds of small, agile targets.

  • seams that modern wars hip desiners never thougth the concepy of suicide bomber lol

  • For all the damage she takes, you have to admit the Destroyer just kinda shrugs it off. That hit would have sunk a ship of the period.

  • @darkyoda Not really. It took multiple Zeroes for example to actually badly damage a US Carrier in WW2, but that wasn't even sunken damage, that was "Out of the fight: damage. It all depends where you hit.

  • Vulcan/Phalanx point defense anti-missile gun fires very dense, heavy metal 20 mm rounds at a rate of 50 rounds PER SECOND. A 40's era SBD Dauntless taking this kind of fire would NOT get little bits knocked off. Rather the WHOLE aircraft would instantly BECOME little bits.

Having vented my gripe, would still have to say this amine series is entertaining.

  • I have a gripe as well. if he's attempting a kamikaze attack why would he put his flaps out? that seems silly.

  • Flaps giove you more control.. but i think he tried to slow down the aproach to have time to aim the plane and bail out

  • Speed brakes and flaps are out to retard the dive. About the CIWS issue, there is concern about 20mm rounds not having enough hitting power to pulverize the target and leaving big chunks of flying debris. RAM missile therefore is designed to supplement CIWS. Most other countries adopted 30mm rounds for CIWS, such as the Goalkeeper.

  • did they pretend in any way they had better technologie??

stop being the typical american jerk, this is a anime, and it is very interesting to work on the differences between today s JSDF and the imperial navy as far as their way of thinking is analyzed, and the way the author indirectly criticizes the wartime japanese education system.

  • Aside from people like guill49 who claim we're all being "typical American jerks" yet doesn't bat an eye at SteelgunnerJin saying Americans need to be wiped off the face of the Earth ...

... Zipang's an interesting take on how the Japanese would handle a situation like in "The Final Countdown." Faced with the same questions about disrupting the flow of events, and whether it's okay to betray your countrymen from the past or assist them. What if "The Final Countdown" took place at Midway?

  • Actually, the "The Final Countdown" took place before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Acting by the oath he sworn, the captain of the Nimitz launched air strike operations against the Japanese Carrier Fleet before they can launch. So that movie showed that it is okay to assist your countrymen in the past.

  • JRCitrus: I know; still, what I would like to see is The Final Countdown given an episodic treatment; your average feature length movie doesn't really allow for exploring these kind of situations (they got yoinked out of the time stream before they could act on their decision in TFC).

  • @JRCitrus But he called them back.

  • not even that plane would of been vaporized with in 3 seconds!

  • A US Naval pilot actually was the first to do a suicide attack with a damaged aircraft (Battle of Midway).

  • yeah he tried to crash a TBD devastator into the bridge of a carrier

  • TBD torpedo planes never got close to the Japanese carriers, Zeros & A.A. fire splashed all but three.

Japanese CA Mikuma was crashed by a fatally damaged American aircraft, late in the battle. There is a popular photo of the burning cruiser, with bits of airplane everywhere.

  • 僕はそれは重巡洋艦三隅の20cm砲塔に突っ込んだヘンダーソン機だと思いますが。 ヘンダーソンの名はその後ガタルカナル島に建設された飛行場の名前になったと思います。階級はなんだったろう?

  • Besides, the anime storyline gave an american pilot a proper respect to his fighting spirit. I don't see how unfair the plot is because the plot gave both side their credits.

  • @digitalkrashed Better then Spriggan where all Americans were just evil bastards.

  • This is very interesting! Please post more if possible! Thank you!
