This is horrible. She's a great singer, but this doesn't even count as an interpretation of the song. I'm not a hater, but obviously those who say this is better than the original only has eyes for over-rated singers. The classic was the most beautiful song ever with it's simple yet beautiful tones and wonderful lyric, but Christina turned it into a whole different song with a thousand extra notes that's so unprofessionally put. I understand that this song isn't originally "soulful" but that's Christina's style of voice. So you can hate her for "over doing" it but that's her version. Why would we want to hear someone sing a song that was exactly like the original when the original is just fine the way it is? It's more interesting to hear someone else's take on it in their own version. This was obviously the more "soulful" approach.

None of this is to say that she's not a great vocalist. But we are allowed to judge interpretation to be good or bad, & have reasons to do so.

It's pretty good but - sorry, Guy Sebastian's better...She starts doing the twirling-sound a bit too early...that should be left for the climax. It makes it artificial. Plus the choir-talking thing is a bit wanky.

For some people she may ruined the song but I was born in 1989 and I think this is a totally outstanding performance. Thanks to this I watched The Sounf of Music. People should leave their oppinions apart and give thanks that are artists like Christina introducing the classics to new generations. There are no more artists like her in 2011.

The classic was the most beautiful song ever with it's simple yet beautiful tones and wonderful lyric, but Christina turned it into a whole different song with a thousand extra notes that's so unprofessionally put. You'd know this if you had experience with music.

I understand that this song isn't originally "soulful" but that's Christina's style of voice. So you can hate her for "over doing" it but that's her version. Why would we want to hear someone sing a song that was exactly like the original when the original is just fine the way it is? It's more interesting to hear someone else's take on it in their own version. This was obviously the more "soulful" approach.

Some interpretations are novel & work. Other's do not.
Her interpretation is over the top & gratuitous. For me throwing in so many trills seems like compensating for a lack of connection with the song. Seems lazy & ego driven.
None of this is to say that she's not a great vocalist. But we are allowed to judge interpretation to be good or bad, & have reasons to do so.

It's pretty good but - sorry, Guy Sebastian's better...She starts doing the twirling-sound a bit too early...that should be left for the climax. It makes it artificial. Plus the choir-talking thing is a bit wanky.

For some people she may ruined the song but I was born in 1989 and I think this is a totally outstanding performance. Thanks to this I watched The Sounf of Music. People should leave their oppinions apart and give thanks that are artists like Christina introducing the classics to new generations. There are no more artists like her in 2011.

Well she put her heart n soul into the piece, I cant fault the effort.. but Mr Rogers and MR Hammerstein wrote a certain series of notes... the song needs to follow that score they wrote
