@AntoineWalkerFan Yeah I see that now, sorry sometimes I get defensive when it comes to talking about my favorite players LOL
Do you think Antoine will get signed by a (NBA) team soon? I haven't really been keeping track of his D-League progress with the Stampede but I heard he was doing pretty good.
So this would be the year that Antoine led the Celts to a 29 POINT COMEBACK in the 4th quarter of a Eastern conference finals game against the Nets. That was awesome as was this. Toine is and always will be my favorite celtic of my generation.
@blkplaguelmc 21 points and if it wasn't for Walkers speech and him being the only player to show up for the first 3 quarters the comeback would have been a non issue.
More perspective for everyone on the significance of this shot...
1). The shot capped a big Celtics rally (trailed 103-91 with 3 minutes to play, but Antoine Walker's teams do not quit).
2). Trivia time--Thanks to Toine's triple double and game winner, This was the FIRST and ONLY Laker 3 game losing streak during their 3-peat title run from 2000-2002. Look it up. Kobe tries furiously down the stretch to prevent the 3 game slide but Toine answers with the smart assist and clutch 3.
Antoine with 30 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists on the night!! Also was playing hurt, hurt his hand earlier in the game. But Antoine was one of the most durable players in the league so naturally he still played. Always ready for primetime shots, whether it be in NY MSG or the bright lights of L.A. Antoine definitely has winner's intangibles, the leadership, the heart, the know-how, the will to make it happen in the 4th quarter when it's time to make it happen. I miss this.
@kaela67 Of course. At that angle fading away and trying to get the shot off around the outstretched arms of Robert Horry he really had no other choice but to go for the bank. That's what makes the shot even more brilliant. Find on youtube the highlights at the end of gm 5 vs Philly in 02 that same year when he intentionally banks in a 3 from the same spot to say goodnight to Larry Brown. That was during a blowout though, this one was during money time and was incredibly clutch.
@ManlaiSadis There was nothing lucky about Antoine's shot. He hit no less then 10 game winners in his Celtics days. Kobe is an amazing player and Antoine was not as good as Kobe but very few people are as good as Kobe.
Kobe is a great player and one of my faves. He was even a favorite of mine when I was a Celtic fan.
@bostonrules3433 I was a sophomore in high school and I damn near shit my pants because at the time the Lakers had won back to back titles and the Celtics had sucked since I was 7 years old. I remember jumping up and down when Toine banked home that 3. Almost 10 years later and I still remember this now "meaningless" game, good memory though.
i fuckin love this team, i grew up with them. this has to be my fav. 'toine moment. god i love the walker wiggle. look at the classic guys we had back then under jim o'brien - mark blount, kenny anderson, eric williams (E), of course pierce, and i think in even saw vitaly popentako on the bench. i love 'toine's headband and high socks. lastly, i love how the celtics are celebrating like the won an championship at the end, when it's just a reg. season game, that's how bad they were
Retired is the wrong word. He wants to play and was in great shpae this summer but teams these days would rather have a kid on their bench then a former all star/ proven NBA Champion and it isn't just Antoine.
AI was lucky Philly took him back because as sad as it is no one else wanted him.
I really miss this too. Does anyone know if Antoine will be attending an NBA team's training camp next month? I'm getting tired of seeing this bummer stories about gambling woes and mortgages and problems with agents. It's time for good news for a change! If J.R. Rider at 38 and 7 years removed from the league can be on the comeback trail then I know Antoine can make it happen as well, he just needs to find the right situation. Someday he will make a great coach too!
I really hope the Hawks come to their senses. To paraphrase a quote by Antoine's former coach after the Heat acquired him in 2005, the Atlanta Hawks signing Antoine would be a homerun for Antoine Walker and a grand slam for the Atlanta Hawks! They have TWO open roster spots at present. That's the type of team that needs more veterans to help them make the next step to a championship situation. Hopefully something can be worked out.
I find it hard to believe that Brian Scalabrine is still in the league and now some kind of saint for riding the bench for a Celtic title and Antoine gets treated like dirt by "Celtics fans"
Aw man, I remember staying up watching this game, I tried so hard not to go so crazy that I'd wake my parents up after 'Toine hit that eventual game winner, then had my heart broken when Kobe hit his supposed buzzer beater, only to be put back together when the refs reversed the call! That Celtics team in the 01-02 season was awesome!!!
Antoine for the game....GOT IT!!!!! OFF THE GLASS WITH ONE POINT TWO ON THE CLOCK, THE CELTS ARE UP BY ONE...... AN-TOINE WALKER.... BANKS IT HOME!!!!!!!
This is definitely a top ten all-time Antoine moment, clutch city!!!
Now for some trivia. We can see "Miracle" Milt Palacio on the sidelines, and this wound up being his final game as a Celtic, traded to the Suns. Palacio gave Rick Pitino his final win as head coach in Dec 2000 against the Nets with his crazy steal and buzzer beater.
Thanks for this. I still remember the ending of this game like it was yesterday. It was about 1:00 am EST because they were playing on the West Coast (obviously), and I had to control my excitement to not wake up my family haha.
i think if its that close to call they should pay the bucket anyway
