  • Hey i am using a singel core pc but i am hyper threading so should i use multi rendering or not? :(

  • @DamedaZenZenDameda It wouldn't hurt to just try one or the other. Use the console command:

    cl_showfps 2

to see your framerates (averaged over the course of a second for easier reading). Try it with it on and see what you get, then turn it off and restart the game and see what the difference is. Obviously use whichever gives better results; I couldn't tell you for sure in that case.

  • I'll see if this works tomorrow.

  • Forgive me if anyone else has asked this, but what if i have McAfree?

  • @basher40445 I have McAfee too and nobody will answer the question, it's probably because McAfee won't work at all. Probably need to get something else :(

  • @RedSpycrab yeah, im haveing the same problem, mcafee's a peice of shit

  • After two years of TF2, I want to thank you and ChrisCTX for this awesome tip (or whoever figured this out), it finally really worked.

  • @Mixaraah It was Chris, I just made the video c:

  • Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

    Simple.

  • I got question i am using avg also but not avg 9 i use avg 2011 and i tryed to select whole folder but it didn't work so i added file by file does it works the same like ur i mean will it lover fps

  • nice desktop picture and thanks for video xD

  • Thanks for the info.

    I ll try it.

I wonder if something similiar can be done with Bad Company 2 and Black Ops.

  • Comment removed

  • watch?v=OowGXModQBw

I get always over 200fps minimum 120fps watch my movie

    nothing overclocked!!!

  • Does this only work with TF2, or does this work with other games?

  • @hpland12 TF2 records way more stats than a lot of other games, and even then, results vary wildly between computers and AV programs. In other words, I don't know, probably not that much?

  • I wanna start play TF2 again but my computer isnt the best. i have a very good video card, but my CPU is only 2.0 GHZ. what can i do to make it run smoother?

  • @lurvus Define "very good". :P

Anyway, assuming your bottleneck is your CPU, there are a couple things you can do. For example, if your CPU has two or more cores, be sure you enable multicore rendering in TF2's graphics settings. Also, you can reduce load on your CPU by closing background programs (this is made very easy by a program called GameBooster - one click to close and re-open unneeded processes). Also make sure your power settings are set to maximum performance. Hope this helps. :)

  • @lurvus if you have antialias running on it make sure ot switch that of aswell

btw do you have a desktop then say the specs if its a laptop with intel graphics then force it to use more memory in the drivers (intel graphics is slow and not made for gaming...)

  • Oh wait you can't do this on McAfee Security Center because it's shit!

PS: thanks Valve for releasing updates to great detriment of video performance with no visible improvements in image quality. It's really conducive to my enjoyment of your game!

  • I did this and I still get a bunch of lag, even with disabling ragdolls as well. I'm running the game on a 32-bit Windows Vista on a laptop about 2 years old. Have anything that could help?

  • @DragonKazooie89 Yeah, for something heavy, enable DX8 (put -dxlevel 80 as a launch option, launch the game, close the game, and then remove the launch option) and google up Chris FPS Config.

  • @DragonKazooie89 what kind of laptop is it and

does it have nvidia or ati/amd graphics if not then buy a cheap desktop (build your own OEM computers from hp and simlar is crap compared to the ones you can build out of parts yourself) or a better laptop with that (preferebly a laptop with 512 mb DEDICATED graphics card memory then it will be much faster)

  • Cool fix, trying it now with MSE

  • how to do this on kaspersky internet security 2011?

  • @VivaLasPingas yes i need help wit this 2

  • at times, my fps has gone rock bottom - 0 fps

  • Hey MafiaGuy 76, I also have AVG, but under Resident Shield it doesnt have exceptions like yours does.

    It has

    Advanced Settings

    Directory Excludes; and

    Excluded Files

    What do I do?

  • @djmland Directory Excludes or Excluded Files

  • i wasnt realy looking at his video i was looking at his wallpaper and laughed :)

  • I don't really have an antivirus program (WTF) and I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, could my OS be the problem?

  • @dist234 I don't know what your hardware specs are; those are the biggest factor in any game. However, if you're using 64 bit, try checking Framerate Tip #2. :]

  • YEAH I HATE NORTON 360 IT DIDNT LET ME PLAY SC2 AND SCANNED IT AS A THREAT... CURSE YOU NORTON

  • if i just put each individual file that is in the folder stats, will it still work, i am going to try.

  • @Jdogthedog That's definitely worth a try, but keep in mind - tips like these have widely varying results. I saw a minor but noticeable increase, some people got a significant increase, and others saw no difference at all. So, it might work and you won't even know. :P

  • @nickXDm Just IMO, Norton and McAfee are worthless. They om nom nom your computer's resources and don't provide any better protection that any number of cheap or free antivirus programs out there which are kinder to your computer. If you REALLY want an FPS boost, ditch Norton and get something else.

But Norton is listed in the thread which is linked in the description, is all I can say about your question.

  • @Nieijin If by sucks you mean the best desktop ever, then yeah.

  • i have windows 7 and it wount let me select to exclude the folder. it wants me to exclude each thing in the file. how do i bypass this?

  • @Jdogthedog Haven't the slightest clue. As you can see, I'm still running XP.

  • What program did you use to record? Haters gonna hate.

  • so uhhh... what program did you use to record this video?

  • Didn't increase my FPS!

    :(

I did everything you said, I even have AVG. Do skins of cfg mods conflict with this?

  • I was shocked by how useful this was. Thanks for having this on the forum.

  • @Azn096 You're welcome :D

  • Any help on doing something like this for Mcafee?

  • @Caerus88 Click the link in the description.

  • @MafiaGuy76 i meant with the new version. they updated it last week or so and i cant seem to find any coherent pathways to do something like this again

  • @Caerus88 Google?

  • man how do it in symantec antivirus? :S

  • tnx dude , i play tf2 on an Nvidia Geforce 7025 , ON DIRECTX 8 , and my FPS go from 90 to 3 or 2 for 2 or 3 minutes , and i didn't know what the hell do! but i do know now , thanks man :D

  • Well don't say that until you know if it works. :P

  • @MafiaGuy76 BTW nice background :D

  • How would you do that for McAfee?

  • jesus christ..... my shitty 3 year old dual core, 2 gig, 512 meg hd2900xt PC could run TF2 in maxed settings at 1280x960 (any higher res with maxed AA and maxed AF is just a waste of time, it stresses your PC without gaining any noticeable visual improvement.) and i averaged 70 fps with a minimum of 35 on 64 player goldrush servers.... want better frames in TF2? buy even an average PC by todays standards...... no need to fuck around with this tweaking bullshit.

  • @BigKiwiLad: Your response is invalid because you play on servers with increased_maxplayers.

Also, I'm saving up for a new computer right now. You should consider that some people can't afford even an average computer.

  • you should really think before typing..... how does mentioning that i play on servers with increased_maxplayers make my response invalid? if anything, when mentioned in relation to a video about TF2 framerates it's even more valid.

  • @BigKiwiLad Relax, bro. I just have a strong distaste for the imbalance of increased_maxplayers servers, and I'm sure a lot of other people would make the same joke. If you can get better FPS on a 64-player game (I didn't even know servers with that player count existed) without FPS tricks than I can on a server with just me by myself standing still with a bunch of tricks, then that's awesome for you.

  • it pains me that i even have to pose this question, but..... how are 64 player servers (32 vs 32) more imbalanced than 32 (16 vs 16) or 24 (12 vs 12) player servers? and why don't you like increased_maxplayers servers? i'm genuinely asking, not being sarcastic.... and also why do ppl make fun of them? whats the diff?

  • The game was and still is designed and balanced for no more than 24 players per game. I can't post the link here, but I can PM it to you, but there is a post on the official TF2 blog entitled "Git along there, little doggies" which explains the reasoning behind the game's respawn waves. Increasing the player count poses almost the exact same problem as decreasing the respawn time. There is no reward for killing enemies (window to complete objectives), (continued in next comment ->)

  • players are constantly inundated with enemies, resulting in a lack of "ebb and flow" to the battle and also resulting in players becoming fatigued or bored more quickly, and finally, attack/defend maps become completely broken, as for every enemy you kill as an attacker, there will be three more to take his place, whereas the attackers tend to be in smaller groups (trying to take on the whole enemy team concentrated into one area). (next comment ->)

  • Also, some classes become more useful, while others become less. Classes capable of putting out heavy spam, such as the soldier or demoman, become even more borderline overpowered than they already are, as they become able to lock down chokepoints completely with sheer walls of explosives, since there are more of them. Classes that are hurt by spam, such as the scout, heavy, and spy become less useful, because there's more things (not just explosives) flying through the air that they (->)

  • need to avoid. Engineers also become much more useful and harder to take down, as they are able to appear in larger numbers without taking away from other potential player class slots. In other words, you can have an enormous, unbreakable sentry farm, and still have enough players left over to have sufficient numbers of other classes. This results in STALEMATES on two-way maps, and impenetrable defenses on attack/defend maps much, much, much more often than on normal servers. (->)

  • Not to mention, of course, massive SPAMFESTS on ALL MAPS, because they were not designed to accommodate so many players, which results in many deaths that were unavoidable to the player, which are not FUN. Notice how all the maps in games like Battlefield are so expansive, because they're SUPPOSED to have that many players. The sheer size of the map makes the players spread out, but in TF2, the maps are much smaller, because they're supposed to have much fewer (up to 24, twelve per team).kdone

  • I know, my current system is a new self built rig, but even my 3 year old Dell I used for school (and still use if friends show up) runs TF2 on High settings with excellent FPS.

  • I did this in avira and could play at 1680x1050 without lag at all (before 1440x900) it worked surprisingly well.

    BTW awesome wallpaper! XD

  • I'm glad it helped you so much xD

    And thanks :)

  • @MafiaGuy76 How about the Norton internet security 2010

  • lol good thing you use avg thanx for the help

  • someone please make F-Secure 2010 version of this...

  • For AVG 9.0, to exclude a folder use "Directory Excludes" under "Resident Shield" in adv. settings instead of "Excluded files".

  • Nevermind my last comment, I found the stats one, gonna check how it turns out.

  • Aaaaand now another little problem has arisen; it does not seem to accept folders as exceptions, so I'll just make exeptions of all the files in the stats folder and see how that works.

    I'm so bad at this.

  • What do I do if my Program Files folder is completely empty? Where do I find this "stats" file then?

Also, I see you're using an older version of AVG; does it still work well? 'Cause I feel that when I downloaded 9.0 there was some stuff that felt unnecessary and I'm thinking of maybe getting the old one backm if possible.

  • also advanced users know already to add whatever directory they installed steam in.

    Mine for example is

    D:\Game Files\Steam\

(HDD2 is for game files almost exclusively)

  • If you have 64bit the directory is:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache\stats

  • Thanks.

  • I just love u dude (L) 5 stars here and If I could +rep

  • @hypersilver: Not as much as I do >:3
