  • Kill it with ice

  • These are NOT funnel web spiders, but tube web spiders. They are one of the "True spiders", where as actual funnel webs are Mygalomorph spiders. There's quite a massive difference.

  • I see no dangerous funnel web spiders in this video. The only one to be concerned about lives in Australia The Sydney FW

  • I live in NSW Australia on the bush and caught a male Sydney Funnel Web this morning and can safely say the first spider in this video really doesn't look like it

  • 8 spiders during their sleep. Thanks for ruining my fucking life...

  • Comment removed

  • This is why i have an air rifle. I don't give a shit about the skirting board, i just want the fuckers dead.

  • Amazing.

Even with the actual temperature decreasing from 2000-2010.

This spider must have leg warmers.

  • WTF Dont want that shit over here scary little fuckers

  • It's not a 'funnel web' it's a tube web. Britain has a native version of these and then there's the non native one, which resides in the southern parts of England called Segestria Florentina. I wish the media would stop demonising spiders. Do they not realise that this world would be uninhabitable without them!!

  • It's a distant relative of the 'funnel web'. It's not a funnel web. Ffs. Bloody media no wonder people are so scared of spiders when they shouldn't be. It looks like a Segestria Florentina (tube web spider), which has been living in the southern parts of England for over 100 years. I'm from Devon originally and I've seen tons of these impressive looking spiders.

  • Not the Australian type thankfully!!

These are from the Mediterranean and are now one of the UK's non-native spiders.

  • What a heap of bullshit. These are not the true funnel web spider from Australia. I should know. I live there. A funnel web is very aggressive and much more robust than these little darlings.

  • I think I got bitten by one today about 10 minutes ago. I took a picture on my phone.

  • It's said to be as cold this winter in the UK

  • 2008..

  • oh fucking joy!

  • it was clearly cold enough this winter!

  • Also what happens if you get bit by one in england do they have the cure what australians have.

  • I thought they were only in hot countries now they can be in england im scared to fuck.

  • why would they show a normal house spider first now them poor fuckers gonna get stepped on more than they already do

  • Now I don't feel as safe in the UK...

  • luckily last winter was EXTREMELY cold

  • im scared

  • Both spiders shown are British natives. The tube web is Segestria sp. Steatoda sp (false widow spiders) have several native species too. Neither are particulary dangerous. You also do not swallow spiders in your sleep. That's a myth made up by a journalist to prove people are gullible.

  • @traxfish glad someoen else knows facts about Spiders, false Widows are relatives of Widows, yes, but their not as dangerous, and i highly doubt those are TRUE funnelwebs, sure the web looks Legit, but we have spiders here in VA USA that are aobtu the same size and build funnel-type webs, these spiders are greyish brown, if fed well can grow to 2 or 3 inches long, their fast but stay in their webs, theres many spiders that build webs like that, most arent dangerous

  • @Lavos2007 The "funnel web spiders" (Family Agelenidae, also called grass spiders) here in the states and europe are completely different types of spider than the Sydney funnel web spider (family Hexathelidae, genus Atrax). The funnel web spider in this video is different from the other two as well (family Segestriidae, genus Segestria). Common names of spiders can be very confusing, which is why I typically provide scientific names.

  • @traxfish yeah promoting that man made climate change the world's gonna end run for the hills propaganda. I expect no less of the BBC.

  • It's a tube web spider. Not a funnel web unless they're related.

  • good job i live in bullwell not london xD

  • @MrGSTARLIVE Tube webs are found in southern England. So if that is in the southern area then well. I don't know where Bullwell is so forfive me if that isn't southern.

  • Take up residence in a cold climate, check!

  • I've had both of thos back in my garden in the UK for over 20 years, really didn't think it was anything new.

  • spiders are loverly creatures and you think am crazy i have a pet tarantula i have holed it it never bites me but i would love to see them spiders in liverpool that would be awersome! ail kep it as a pet hahaha sik :)

  • well we should be fine since our last couple winters were extremely cold...

im still going to check my shoes before i put them on and stop walking around barefoot...

  • I spotted a funnnel spider years ago in my old home and no fucker believed me when i told them what i seen!

    Now i have proof!

  • and to think we may have a very warm summer!!!!!

  • @BreakingSCOTLAND i know.... dont wanna sleep now

  • I don't see why everyone is so freaked out by a few spiders coming in...

I would agree that funnel webs are dangerous but with the winter we had just there I think it's safe to say they wont last long

  • @BooshgaFilms even less reason to worry as they are only tube web spiders NOT the incredibly poisonous Funnel web they are britains version :L i have been bitten by one and i'm still here.

  • this is so xenophobic

  • pray for just one cold winter :D

  • the old man at the bridge saying theres no danger how stupid is he funnel webs are the most dangeerous in the world and can kill a man in 15 minuts your correct london is no longer safe!

  • @nulius1 ignorance..male sydney funnel webs are very dangerous, not the most..that would go to the six eyed sand spider. the average funnel web is mildy dangerous, if at all.

  • Wow your an idiot... No affence but realisticly their only harmful if you come in contact with one.. so hes right they are harmless and if you new anything about {funnel web/ tubeweb} ud how what to do if you got bit - and as it seems we aint getting rid of them, your best bet is research and keep away from them.. for every one out there if your not sure of any creature. {Do Not Touch}

  • @19Edward91 i know but they can be dangerous especiall the male ones as they wander into ur homes which can be very dangerous

  • haha sweet, ive got a false widdow living in my back door...AWESEOME!!

  • fuck this im killing any spider i see from now on not taking any chances fuck them :D

  • Right fuck that, i'm moving to Antartica.

  • @nathninetyone I can ensure you enraged polar bear is worser then enraged funel web

  • @nathninetyone good idea can i come

  • I came across one of these giant fucking purple spiders whilst fishing in Cardiff. It was seemingly sunning itself on a steel mooring post without a care in the world. The fucking beast was bigger than any house spider ive seen, so I proceeded to prod it with my fishing rod. The fucking thing literally stood its ground, reared up, and was attacking the end of my rod. I could see its fangs, and be fucked if I was going within a couple of feet of the thing.

  • Ok well im from newport area but recently moved to haverfordwest, if you have any pictures or details on this spider please contact me with them.. edward.howard@hotmail.co.uk

  • The first spider is a Segestria Florentina, wonderfull black spider with greens cheliceraes

  • @hateapericube haha chelicerae is plural..

  • @CameronStewart FUCK....WE ROCK! BWAH HA HA HA!

  • did he say the average human swollows EIGHT spiders in their life time?!!?!?!!!!! O_O

I'm duct-taping my mouth every night from now on.

  • @arandomperson3 then one might climb into your nose ;D.

  • how did they get here?

  • Could of got the spider intro picture right.. its a regular British house spider...idiots!

  • Thanks fuck its been snowing the past two years!!!

  • Do u know any good books on spiders in the UK ?

  • Haven't seen these in england at ALL and this was made in 2008. > ?> > ? > ? Sooooo what?

  • By the way, is this all true or is it just a prank?

  • @stevieFFmaster its true

  • @ililililil1 O_O Holy shit!

  • YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME!!!!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAY THAT THESE THINGS ARNT IN GREAT YARMOUTH!!!

  • Brazillian wandering spiders sometimes get here in bags of Bananas those are the ones you should truly fear the most venomous in the world and if your a man if you don't die then your cock will literally pop.

  • britains winters arnt cold enuf ? is he having a FUCKING LAUGH?

  • I have in a mustard jar, a preserved specimen of a male Sydney Funnel Web spider found about two years ago in a swimming pool at Redhead NSW. The identifying features are the spurs on its legs and the fangs as large as its front legs. It shrunk a bit in the metho, but it still looks formidable.

  • The Sydney Funnel Web spider is bad and mean and mighty unclean! Afraid of no one, except the man with the can of Mortein.

  • i have seen 5 or 6 of them in n london they are big and scary, are they bad or not

  • @ililililil1 honestly you have seen them?>

  • @minskfalastine trust me dude yes for sure and you should see how they attack

  • @ililililil1 I hope they stay in london and not travel to the north -_-

  • @minskfalastine they allready in northlondon

  • @ililililil1 How!? How did they get here??? Can our winters kill the,?

  • @minskfalastine i saw them for the past 2years and winter not cold enough just lesten to this news

  • @ililililil1 How big and did you scream when u saw it ?

  • @minskfalastine when you see one youll know dude

  • @ililililil1 I live in the north not London.

  • i see those funnels web spiders all the time ,but i thought they were naturaly from England !

  • @1984kid1 you see them constaantly??? WHoah where?

  • lol everyones shitting themselves in the comments! :D

  • :D Is it only me or BBC seems very paranoid "we have allowed transport of biological material across the bounders with very little thought of potential implications of those plants , fruits might do on the places where we are putting them" :D :D :D oh god to me it sounded like you are saying that there is gonna be attack on Britain , but this time you wouldn't get attacked by some crazy terrorist , this time it is gonna be spiders attacking MPs :D :D :D BE AFRAID :D (rofl)

  • holy shit i hope they dont come to thame :O i thought England was safe!! >:(

  • I have a tiny spider in the corner of my room. It doesn't even move. It is a pale yellow color. I have plenty of Raid bug spray on hand just in case. Nobody move, nobody get's hurt. LOL.

  • these arent funnel webs. That is a totally different spider al together. They are tube web sipders usually found in the continent.

They are aggressive though and bite with little provocation even if handled gently. Leave them well alone

  • yes they are that false widow is steatoda nobilis mildely venomus but the that tube(funnnel) web spider is dangerous and sidney funnel is most dangerous spider in world and record is that a man died for 2 minutes

  • This is sensationalistic rubbish that has absolutely no informative value whatsoever.

  • soon time to buy flamethrowers...

  • lol

  • i heard only 3 types of known funnel web are deadly, the sydney, northern tree dwelling and blue mountains, but only the SFW and NTFW are the only ones known who actually delivered a fatal bite to humans

  • These spiders are utterly harmless...

With exception to the false widow, however even if it tries to bite you it's unlikely it will even break the skin so just don't panic and gently pick them up and put them outside. Common sense people.

  • these have been over here for years, they are no harm to humans. The males are black and i used to handle them with no issues. Just dont screw with the females when they are on the web or have eggs, and that applies to all species

  • get me outa the u.k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG this is not good, I'm moving to Greenland

  • I think i swallowed a spider the previous night, i suddenly wake up with somethings in my throat. I could feel it move when i swallow some saliva, when i did that a couple of times it finally end and i felt good.

  • lol

  • No it is correct that every person on the earth will swallow about 10 spiders through a whole life. Well thats at least what they say- then you can your own opinion. I dont even know how they come to that result, but i guess it has something to do with how many spiders there is on a global plan then you divide with how many people there is on the earth and calulate with the risk for having the spiders crwling to your mouth when you sleep.

  • I've been bitten by the False Widow Spider; no fun. I can be quite emphatic about that.

  • where did u get bit from this spider ?

    in britain

  • I was bitten in my Derbyshire garden; Summer of 2008. I'd seen one in same the season previous; the picture was in all the gardening magazines in 2007. It was definitely the FWS, as I recognised the rather distinctive markings on the abdomen. It's been here since a banana shipment of 1870. Though previously confined to the mild South Coast, by compression of British Winter temperature, with more genial seasons recently, it's spread from the basement of the British landspace. Unpleasant beggar.

  • well your expert...

  • Im glad I dont care bout spiders, especially knowin u swallow them in ya sleep, hahahahaha!!

  • Sorry, But that is a proven lie.

  • you've got to be joking i knew i found these in my garden :C and my nans got them in here sheb :(((((

  • kill u in 15 mins

  • different spider, you are talking about funnel webs from australia. these are tube web spiders and are not dangerous to humans. I'm amazed that the bbc got this so wrong!!

  • Seriously ?

  • Not the ones in this video, its the Australian ones which can kill in 15 minutes. I have a few uploads of them, and a few in my swimming pool now and then.

  • these spiders in the video and in britain are tube web spiders, NOT funnel web spiders. they are a completely different species. being bitten by one of these was like a bee sting. a funnel web is very aggressive and can kill in 15 minutes. You need to encourage yourself and others to stop spreading inaccurate info on the spiders in britain. i will state categorically - WE DO NOT HAVE FUNNEL-WEB SPIDERS IN BRITAIN...BUT WE DO HAVE TUBE WEB SPIDERS, WHICH ARE A DIFFERENT SPECIES OF SPIDER!

  • @slk320k Well if a person will pay me a million poun or a million Euro i will let a sydney funnel web bite me an wait 30 - 60 minutes for medical care.

  • Yep :(

  • god spuiders scare me, andi thought safe living in uk ! lol oh totally unrelated note, i have that joe cool snoopy t-shirt too lol

  • It did not look anything even remotely like a Funnelweb to me.....

  • well your the expert...

  • thankyou :) i'm glad to here someone query this. these asre tube web spiders, NOT funnel webs, please spread the word!!

  • The Australian Funnel web stands on it's back legs and reveals its fangs and will literaly go for your finger , they are that agressive and poisionous.

  • here in italy we have that funnelweb... they are aggressive but they aren't so venomous as the australian funnelweb...

  • you don't. you have this species, the TUBE WEB SPIDER. please get this into your head. funnel webs live in australia and new zealand. funnel webs live in europe and the uk.

  • This is why i prefer Winter. A NICE COLD one about -10 would do me. You can always cover up, but you can't undo a spider bite.

  • Lol panic panic, chicken

  • that last part scared the shit out of me! woot!?

  • 0_0 Noooooooooooooooooooo!

  • i found a false widdow in my t.v room :(:(, took it out and placed it over the back form my home :)

  • what that spider needs is a damn good buggerin'!

  • youve got a pen, Dont stroke it open the pen n f****g stab it!

  • If I see one of those things in my home its dead meat, I dont do spiders. Ill throw somethin at it, burn it with a lighter, suffocate it with a glass. Anything as long as it dies!!!!!! :)

  • *faints*

  • oh for fuck sake i thought london was safe

  • HAHA, same!

  • the one thing London has never been in its entire history is safe .... the danger has come from many sources, though - spiders rate rather low on the danger scale!!

  • @submyfavorite It is totally safe it is simply exaggerated, just for the reason a good story in the media.

  • ban bannanas lol

  • LOL!! after that deadly winter we had last month i don't think these immigrant spiders should be a problem anymore :D, well unless they survived it :|

  • well we people from holland never do export again from the UK

  • I blame grapes

  • lmao....of course global warming is too blame..haha...

  • Whats that so called Spider Expert talkin about? If that truly was a Funnel Web then we would need to be on the look out! Not here up in Scotland mind u!

Funnel Webs are ment to be the most venomis spiders on Earth!

  • The Brazillian wandering spider is. they are up here in scotland! found one of the funnel webs on the wall of inverness castle.

  • I did'nt want to here this at all coming from Inverness myself!

  • they aren't funnel webs. these are tube web spiders.

  • i like to here someone talking sense. the bbc got this horribly wrong. funnel webs live in australia, but not the uk! thankyou :)

  • Thats not a 'funnel web'!its called a 'tube web' spider.its native to britain.

  • 'Funnel web spider' is a generic name, it can cover many species. 'Tube web' does the same. It's just that everyone associates the funnel-web spiders with Australia. There are 13 species of FS in Australia too, of which the Sydney funnel-web (Atrax robustus) is the only potentially 'deadly' one.

  • This article refers to a new species of 'tube/funnel' spider for the UK that, although pretty much harmless, is a bit more aggressive than we're used to, and thus prone to giving a nip. I don't think we have to lose any sleep over it though! I'd be more scared of Wandering spiders hiding in the bananas in Tesco!

  • I have just uploaded TWO Brazillian wandering spider videos.

Please take a look .... especially at the last half of the 'Venom Hunters' upload which tells about the weird side effects it has on guys who are bitten.

    Scares the hell outta me.

BTW it was shown that the recent sighting in Tulsa last week was actually a huntsman, not a BWS. lol at that.

  • Checked them out slk320k, thanks for uploading. Yes, interesting side effect that one! Ahem! ;-) By the way, what annoys me about this video (I saw it on the BBC when it first came out as it happens), was the generic picture of a House Spider on the background graphic and the sensationalist intro spiel from the studio presenter. Mediterranean spiders are not 'Tropical Spiders'!!! I think I have a long wait before I visit my local wood and find a bird-eating spider walking about the place!!

  • yay, thankyou :)

  • @lamlyn no sweat, no other spiders even if they build a funnel like web are NOT called funnel webs, hobo spiders build "tangle sheet" webs not funnel webs.

  • @vinniedurrant fair enough, but i've been telling people on this wall repeatedly that funnel webs are separate and even if spiders build funnel type webs, they are necessarily all 'funnel web' spiders. I don't understand, with all due respect, why you're telling me this. i already know and have been correcting others to stop spread of fear unnecessarily!

  • Good grief. It's pretty cold now though. I am thinking they are killed off now.

  • Some of these spiders are Australian Funnel Webs that are imported with the fruit.

  • Is that right? Are you sure?

Its just not Ok for that to happen.

In the 1980's when I was a kid I read there was a problem where Japanese dock workers were bitten by RedBack spiders that came in on fruit from Australia. They did not locate or identify the RedBacks until after the mystery bites were causing trouble, and they were breeding and spreading rapidly. It was quite a drama with many serious illnesses and one near death apparently, and many lost hours and much expense to fumigate.

  • australian funnel webs have never come to britain. BUT tube webs have. go read up about it and learn the facts

  • really interesting will have to warn family lol :D get a dog my dog loves to eat all bugs snails spiders etc... I do worry for her sometimes anyhow no more on spiders ive experienced one bite that was enough Thanx for the info all the same

  • Also, why the massive shot of the Tegenaria Domestica on the videowall in the background, before the report begins? That little blighter's been here centuries! Grrr. get it right Beeb!

  • Tube webs and false widows have been here for years - just getting more prevalent these days. Yep, they were once 'tropical', but even if they are being brought here recently in fruit, they'll have plenty of bedfellows to breed with in the UK! Tut, very misleading journalism by the Beeb there!

  • This is really not cool! Bollocks to animal rights... if one of these comes anywhere near me it's gonna regret it!

  • they aren't dangerous. neither species can kill!!

  • fucking hell 2 of the most poisonous spider in the world

  • So then, have you had your dose of 8 spiders yet ????

    lol lol lol lol

  • Theyre not dangerouse, theyre not funnel webs or black widows, the 1st species shown is native to britain.they both have painfull bites but not deadly.

  • no, they aren't.

  • sooo ugly

  • IM MOVING

  • these spiders are not dangerous. These are funnel weavers and the false widow... they could be everywhere.. and tranported via everything.. Sory but the stories of bananas and fruits are for kids if they dont eat their launch. All spiders nave venom these have but i think they are beneficial so there is nothing to fear of

  • I hate spiders but where i used to work we would import tropical plants and there was allways, fake wido spiders and bannarna spider coming in, so look out you people in yorkshire.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO! actually dont affect me i live in North Yorkshire! OMG 8 spiders? dont go to sleep people, the spiders will get you...

    :L

  • glad i live in wales cold much of the time even in summer, but i think i had one in my garden wall till i killed it
