  • I would say there is definite anger in Keith's response to the Cobain question probably more out of confusion and disappointment than anything else..

  • well the rolling stones have always hated punk rock, ever since the sex pistols... because it goes against everything they stand for... materialistic, flamboyant songs about sex.

  • Haha Pearl Jam comment was spot on to their bullshit

  • Kurt Cobain was just a whiner. Elvis Costello once described grunge as "mommy i wet the bed" music, because thats what it is. And Cobain was the biggest bed wetter.

Everybody on this shitty planet has problems, and kurt's were minor compared to most, which is what probably drove keith toward and unsympathetic view of him. Keith's parents got a divorce when he was young, and he lost a child, Tara, in 1976, did anyone ever hear him constantly whining about it? No becuase he wasn't a whiner.

  • totally agree with keiths comments about 'guys kill themselves all the time and you never hear about it.' i am a mental health nurse in an acute psychiatric unit, and i have seen and treated many more guys who have attempted suicide- and sadly some succeeded- than women. men are more likely to take their own life in a violent way, than women. sad but true. well said keith.

  • everytime a famous rock star dies tragically, they always ask Keith how he feels about it, probably cos he was top of the 'stars most likely to die list' -sick i know- in the 70's. and he's been there done it and still here. he probably just gets pissed off by journalists asking him for his opinion. you can tell he doesn't want to give answer, but composes himself and answers. it may seem flippant in his answer, but he's had close friends die young, and as he says he didn't know the guy.

  • Mick Jagger is so adorable when he laughs. I love him in the 80's.

  • 1:59 Anyone know what that song/video is of theirs?

  • @Yellow4494 "Harlem Shuffle," from the Dirty Work album.

  • i thought he said 'Love is a lunatic in the first place' ?

  • I love the stones asnd nirvana. Although I do think Keith should have just left it and said that Kurt Cobain's suicide should only be important to those close to him. I don't think he fully understood the death and suicide of Cobain. And so don't I, But I don't try to answer a question about a topic I don't fully understand.

  • @MunisAwesome also it seems from Keith's initial emotional response he seems angry about the who thing and that the question caught him off guard slightly...

  • I completely agree with Keith and Ronnie. I remember John Lydon saying something about Cobain at the time as well. Keith is completely right to say what he said. Cobain was being martyred at the time, and it needed to be said that Cobain was a bit of a loose screw to begin with.

  • @alternativegrunge91 cobain would be the first to admit his love for the beatles in stones, and if you think kurt cobain is a better singer/songwriter than paul mccartney or mick jagger than you are insane.

  • the rolling stones is a FUKING CORPORATE WHORE.....

they dont give a fuck if a 8 year old kid want to see them live......

ADMISSION FEES....400 BUCK A POP......the stones and beattles and elvis all stoled (black people) blues music....THATS A FUKING FACT.....

keith richard will never a better then KURT COBAIN.....

kurt cobain was a complete musician....writer, singer, frontman, guitarist, visionist, charismatic figure ect..ect...

  • @alternativegrunge91

you can say the same about Bon Jovi and The Eagles whose ticket prices are the same extortionate price. i don't agree with it, but would pay to see the Stones. if the Stones do another tour for their 50th anniversary maybe they might do it free???????????????? .................or maybe not!!! i can live in hope though. i genuinely can't afford those ticket prices, unless i don't eat, drink, pay my electric for the rest of the year, though i do love their music.

  • well kurt obviously had serious issues, it's no suprise he offed himself really. Depression + herion addiction = bad news.

  • Australia versus swindon umm west Indies !

  • I think Cobain kind of wallowed in his own misery and the idea of being the tortured artist. It seems he and Courtney Love wanted to be Sid and Nancy and that was a huge, dangerous mistake. This is why I think glamourizing that kind of lifestyle is dangerous. Cobain was really young and wanted too much to be seen as punk rock. That combined with being such a sensitive soul and depressed heroin addict led to his demise.

  • The problem with the grunge generation of rockers is they were so worried about being seen as sell outs and acting so tortured over being famous. I love Nirvana and Cobain and what they did for music following hte crappy glam metal phase but I wish they didn't have that attitude of "we are tortured because we don't want to be famous" It's a dangerous attitude. If Nirvana and Pearl Jam didn't want to be famous they shouldn't have signed to a major.

  • swindon aah west indies lol

  • haha keith is god

RESPONSE TO COBAINS DEATH: "The guy was obviously a lunatic" "Everyone is crying in their beer"

    class

  • It obvious that these two dolts will never understand the likes of people like Kurt Cobain. They are the antithesis of Kurt in every way. People who snort thier father's ashes shouldnt make 'lunatic' comments about others. Keith Riachrds is a washed up peice of dirt. I can't believe the drugs haven't done their job yet and killed this bastard.

  • I'm sorry but I don't think the Stones sound right without Wyman. The new guy isn't even a Stone, just a hired player. Well, at least there's still 4 of them, the Who really are sad these days.

  • @ironbuttermilk i admit the superbowl halftime show sucked but they are still great live i saw them twice since the ox died & they were GREAT

  • Comment removed

  • @whofan2753 I'm sorry, but I don't consider Townsend and Daltry "The Who". Their live band is a huge bunch of people. They make great music. . . but it isn't The Who, it's almost a very upscale tribute band. I hate it when one or two members of a band take a new band on the road and call it the name of the original act. This is primarily done to boost ticket sales, but I consider it dishonest. The Who today is more like "Beatlemania".

  • Can someone please explain to me the comment Keith made about Kurt. " He would make a lousy plumber"?

  • @OrchidJayne i think hes just being sarcastic.

  • Thanks, It is hard to tell with some people.

  • It's something that he says about himself a lot in interviews...'So Keith, why do you continue to make music/tour?', and Keith says 'Because I'd make a lousy plumber'. It's just a little sarcastic remark.

  • hahaha im sorry i like the begining lol

  • i can understand what he says about Kurt but at the same time its kind of hurtful that he says that.i mean give Kurt come credit. He was very talented and changed a lot of in some people's lives

  • Love Ronnie Wood !!!!! Hope you get better and make another solo cd

  • Ronnie <3

  • Can't imagine music without the Stones. Mick's a dream.

    Sweet Honesty

  • Well if Keith´s hilarious then I can definitely become a succesfull comedian.

Kurt was a lunatic maybe, but a talented one with an incredible voice and amazing charisma, who spoke to millions of people. He also had a sense of humor and Krist Novoselic said about him ´if Kurt knew he´d hurt someone, he would feel truly sad. God bless Kurt!´

  • hahaha

    Kieths hilarious!

    He was a lunatic!

  • So this is 1994 and they are still asking Ron Wood questions about how felt joining the Stones. For crying out loud! He had been a member for almost 20 years when this was shot! Stupid journos...

  • The Stones first eyed him as early as 1974, as Mick Taylor (formerly of the Bluesbreakers), who left the group after 5 years with them. But Ron was initially hesitant to join them as he was still a member of Rod Stewart's band, the Faces (which also had future Who drummer Kenney Jones). But Stewart quit his group when rumors of Ron Wood's joining the Stones kept building up, which officially happened in March 1976.

  • Actually, he knew Mick J and Keith before '74 and Mick T long before that. He was invited to Mick J's wedding in Saint Tropez in '71 and started hanging with them on a regular basis in London '73 when Keith and Mick J came back from the tax "exile" in France. They used to hang out at "Tramps" every night. Keith actually lived at Ron's house, "The Wick", for a few months in '74 and it was at "The Wick" where "It's Only R n R" was written and the basic tracks were recorded with Mick J.

  • I love the way keith just puts the whole thing with cobain into perspective. 'He's a Lunatic' everyone goes on about him being some tragic hero or tortured soul! Keith just dont give a shit! like he said people kill themselves all the time you dont here about it ya know!

  • Keith was pissed because Cobain couldn't handle his heroin. :)

  • Yeah knowing keith! Ha

  • @TheGoldenSphinx lmao I think that's the reason. He's probably thinking about Kurt "what a pussy" lol.

  • best rock band ever !

  • UR SO RIGHT

  • matjagger is a selfish cunt for thinking anyone cares for his opinion, so fuckoff

  • not to be pedantic but kurt didn't have a son lol. he had a daughter called frances. so yeah, fuck off, mate :). don't be so ignorant.

  • poop

  • Crying in his beer haha

  • Are you talking about Kurt Cobain? If you are, he actually had a daughter o_0

  • Does anyone know that funny interview with that asian lady that was featured on shine a light and it goes like this:

Asian: So how old are you?

    Mick: Im 29.

Asian: *giggles for ages* You same age as me! *giggles*

    Mick: Oh isnt that wonderful.

It was really funny and i really want to find it!

  • Good question. Wondered the same thing. She's probably Japanese (I live in Japan) and the interview could be from Mick's tour here in....1988, I think. Great clip, though.

  • I reckon that with Eric's addictive personality, what with his alcoholism etc he wouldnt have survived being in the Stones - Ron prob has more stamina for such things

  • Stones were late in 75, so Jeff went home. Steve Marriott would have been interesting, but I reckon he wouldve been competing with Mick in terms of energy and voice. Also heard that Eric was up for the job but Ronnie talked him out of it haha

  • Ive always thought that Jeff Beck looks like a Stone - probably just as much as Ronnie - The Jeff Beck Group in the late 60s were a bit like the Stones but on a slightly different axis - same with the Faces - like the Stones' little brother (in a way), but you can't imagine anyone else but Ronnie, and Jeff wouldnt and didnt have enough patience

  • i want to hug all the stones :) they r my heroes

  • Mick Jagger is a huge cricket fan!

  • i'm sort of amazed at keith's non-chalance at kurt cobain.

  • it's hardly nonchalance...

    1) he was probably sick of the topic and had probably been asked about it ad nauseum, and

    2) like he said - it doesn't really have anything to to with him...

  • Touchy-Feely NIRVARNA fans, are Still cryin' in thier beer! Message to Kurt, what about Francis Bean, did ya think about her? Dude, I liked your Angst, it was catchy, but Shit Kurt! As far as the STONES, hey its all about perseverence...seeing it through the Trials and Tribulations, just ask Keith! They answered the same questions when Bryan Jones died, when thier friends like Hendrix, Joplin,Morrison,Moon,Bonham, and Lennon died. They are not philosophers. It's ONLY ROCK-n-ROLL, and WE LIKE IT!

  • @gimmeshelter64 You make a good point. The Stones have seen it all and lost many of their friends. They didn't even know Kurt. I remember seeing an interview with Keith from the 60s where he was asked about Brian Jones and he wasn't getting super emotional. She just said he wasn't surprised. Do people really expect him to act super emotional over a young rocker he didn't even know?

  • @gimmeshelter64 The Rolling Stones are the biggest sell-outs of all-time. They should never ever be compared with The Beatles and Hendrix.

  • wat music video is the 1st one playing??

  • 'theres a difference between scratching an arse and tearing it to pieces he didn't have to go and kill himself to prove a point did he?'

    best quote ever.

  • haha there some funny blokes

  • Keith`s hair is permmed, to make it look thicker!

  • i dont get it keith had straight hair when he was younger and now its all curly

  • well he just became an old toad, that's it...

  • I didn´t know Keith and Mick wrote a tribute to Kurt. I should check that out!

Well, apparently Keith was more respectfull to Kurt than he seems to be in this interview.

  • He might come across as dismissive, though a few months earlier he and Mick wrote a tribute to Kurt, 'New Faces', which is what sparked the question in the first place. And I think the 'lunatic in the first place' remark was an angry reference to the fact people should have been taking care of Kurt, as it was known he had already tried to kill himself in Rome....and not anything do with musical taste.

  • @chuckfinn you're making excuses for Keith, I think he was just being an asshole, frankly. They obviously regretted it later and wrote the song. I love both the stones and Kurt, and it breaks my heart to see keith taking a jab at him. Keith and Mick are brilliant musicians, but they're no saints, Just listen to "Saint of me" the lyric is "You'll never make a saint of me, oh yeah" oh yeah

  • @buterito You could be right. But I honestly feel that Keith's words come simply from frustration about such a senseless loss of life. I don't want to over analyse it but I really cant see the jab at all. If he was really being an asshole, then he wouldnt have been making excuses for Kurt. He even says 'no one was there' and 'somebody should have been looking after him', which are pretty generous statements from someone half drunk asked to share a few words on a topic.

  • @chuckfinn i agree

  • well why should he have too like them?? And they didnt write a tribute they wrote it about him having pretty much everything and throwing it away the same as noel gallagher from oasis

  • @MarkAlwart you are a complete idiot....he just has his own opinions

so do you....i bet there are thousands upon thousands of people that like Perl Jam more

you ask why people like Neil Young like Nirvana....because they just do...its how their brains are made... no need to be so stupid about it....Keith will always be known as a better musician and there is nothing you can do about that

  • aww keith's so upset and angry about kurt =[

and lol with charlie and cricket XD

  • Haha, it's so funny when Charlie talks about cricket!

  • i dont think keith is slating kurt as in the 'lousy plumber' comment, i think he's just slating kurt for killing himself. if you watch the interview from the start again, he seems truly upset/angry that kurt killed himself and is mocking him out of anger.

  • exactly, Keith always uses the 'would have made a lousy plumber' line. In a 2005 interview when he is asked the mundane,'Why are you still playing guitar?'question, he responds, 'Because I would make a lousy plumber.' It's just one of his lines.

  • Does Keith call Kurt Cobain a ´lousy plummer´? If that´s so, I get the idea- from this and other things he have said or things people have said about him- that Keith is a bit narrow-minded if it comes to different types of music. But he is -or was- a great musician. Just as Kurt Cobain.

Hearing Keith say this about Kurt is dissapointing to me, cause I like both Nirvana and the Rolling Stones.

  • The jurno should be shot. hes shite at interviewing. most of his questions finish with the words 'and what'

  • I'm glad Keith gave such a flippant answer-it highlighted the pointlessness of that journo even asking it! I love Nirvana & I think Cobain's death was a terrible tragedy, but music journos were asking all & sundry about it at the time in order to keep the story going: entirely typical but nonetheless pathetic. As Keith says, he didn't even know the guy, so what the hell was he supposed to say? That journo was clearly expecting some 'profound' nugget of wisdom & Keith cheated him out of it!

  • well said. keith is just keeping it real. who really did know cobain? is he supposed to pretend that he was heartbroken over it?

  • @matooli good point

  • thanks for posting this! 5/5

does anyone know what year this interview is from?

  • What the hell are you talking about?

  • To start off, I love the Stones, as I love Nirvana, but it seems to me a bit classless to talk this way shortly after someone's very untimely death, especially since the Stones dealt with something very similar when Brian Jones died in 69

  • I'm not sure if Kurt killed himself and why. Maybe it was his wife? He wanted to leave her and take some shit so maybe she was a looney and shot him? I haven't really given it much of a thought really.

  • I don't think Keith was making fun of people killing themselves, but making a point. The point being that people kill themselves all the time, but no one knows about it or cares, because they aren't famous. And Keith probably thinks it is more important to take notice of people who aren't famous in our lives, than to get strung up on famous people we don't know.

  • i think you have it spot-on rodmick

  • why did they find a bullet through his neck and mouth? would you let someone hold a gun to your head and pull the trigger. give me a fuckin break people. Nirvan sux ass

  • stones are wonderful u heard of exile,sticky fingers,tattoo u etc etc

  • Kurt cobain did not kill himself you stupid wanker read the fucking proof eveidence and everything pplz plz type this in and watch it "kurt cobain suicide or murder" it give plenty of perfectly legit and CORRECT information about the unfortunet event

  • Nobody has ever been a bigger junkie than Keith so that proves that Kurt didn`t kill himself because of drugs. Just like Keith says, the guy was a lunatic, and in my opinion driven over the edge by that absolute lunatic he married probably because he was on drugs at the time. This freggin` dude Cobain made three albums of stuff that`s been done a thousand times before, it was nothing new, and everyone kisses his arse because he`s a pretty boy.

  • and kurt DIDNT kill himself ta prove anything what the fuck are they even talking about?? theres not even any actual proof that kurt DID kill himself. not saying im here or there with the conspiracy that someone killed him but i do believe that the conspiracy has some weight to it. people WERE watching him. he was in rehab before he jumped the wall and ran off to where he died. its nothing anybody coulda really done he was bound ta have his own way eventually

  • and yea kurt didnt wanna be famous and even if he did stop making records people would still know who he is for the rest of his life and beyond practically forever. fame is non-reversable. they're just jealous that nirvana (a new band that aint been around that long) was getting more fame than the rolling stones. and it was a slap in the face to hear that kurt didnt even want it.

  • bollocks!! if u dont want the fame etc retire end of story, stones are in the dna of rock

  • shut the hell up, just cause youre a nirvana fan dont be a little bitch about their opinions. besides, this is just one of those cases where celebrities are asked about something beyond the scope of what they can explain. just cause their famous doesnt mean they have all the answers, but its an interview so they still have to give an opinion. lay off.

  • just cuz the rolling stones has been around since the stone age without killing themselves they have no right laughing at any other band that has problems. i mean honestly what the fuck is wrong with them they looked high or drunk to me when they were downtalking kurt for his drug problem. they're fucking hypacrites. and they HAVE done drugs and alcohol they cant even touch that subject.

  • Well actually he did try to kill himself in Rome, he swallowed about 50 tranquilizers with a bottle of wine. Sounds like a suicide attempt to me.

  • I guess Jagger does't really like Kurt Cobain.

  • i think they dont give a shit bout these new "hot" bands they com n go stones remain...

  • Interesting - they show Ronnie and Keith talking about Kurt Cobain but they talk about Cricket with Charlie and Mick...You gotta realise that Keith is right, Kurt DIDN'T have someone looking after him, like he SHOULD have...if ANYONE knows the dynamics of taking hard drugs it's Keith Richards....

  • YOu have to realize that Keith hase seen alot of junkies die.

  • So have I.

  • Cryin in their beer! Fuckin hysterical.

  • I have to say, I'm sure glad I don't actually know these people, even if they are hella rich. Making fun of people for committing suicide? I mean, that's taking snarky to a pretty ridiculous extreme.

  • committing suicide is the worst thing to do

  • Show some sensitivity Keith. Even if you never have intentionally tried to kill yourself, you have almost succeeded in doing so, with all of the herion and other drugs you have done.
