The basic version of Movie Studio is not crap, it is just very limited in what you can do if you need to customize any settings.

I get many messages from disappointed people every week, when they discover they can't do certain things that Platinum users can.

I didn't mean to come across so strong in the video - just frustrated that people go for the cheapest version when you can go the next level up for not much more.

Sony is quite generous in how many times you can install it on multiple computers in the one house and re-installs.

Because they have a record of your Machine ID which they use to match up with you as a legit customer, you wont have a problem.

Vegas Movie Studio allows you to ADD up to 10 Video and 10 Audio Tracks on the timeline.

Vegas Pro theoretically will let you add infinite tracks.

10 Video Tracks is more than enough for 99.99999% of projects.

I admit I should not have sounded so aggressive.

The program itself works fine.

Because you cannot customize certain things, it can be a big disappoint for a lot of people. My negativity was being generated by the large amount of unhappy people who message me every second day, complaining that they can't create custom templates.

The platinum version does so much more, it's worth the small extra cost if people realise the difference.

I stopped buying boxed versions years ago - there is no need really, unless you want a Pair of cheap throw away 3D glasses and some Instruction Books you probably will never read.

You can buy 3D glasses on Ebay for $5 and the Instruction Manuals come in PDF Form with the download version.

The download versions are Identical AND the latest Build Version which is important.

It's not about the program and ALL about the power of your CPU and GPU.

If you have a 2nd generation 4 Core i5 or i7 CPU installed, then lagging should not be a problem.

Just started using Production Studio. I use a DV camera for my videos, and when I capture to MS, it puts the AVI clips into "my documents" on my D drive. I don't want them there, but can't find where to change the target folder.

Can you advise me how to get the AVI clips into a designated folder and not the one MS wants them in?

Lag has nothing to do with the finished rendered video.

Lag is only experienced in the Preview Window while editing, and does not effect the end product. I have already made videos talking about this.

I have tutorials showing how to render to 720p or 1080p HD Video.

Type "720p or 1080p" plus the version number of Vegas that you use "10 or 11" into the search box on my channel, and you will find the correct tutorials to watch.

Rendering times vary dramatically depending on what type of Video you are working with.

As I said in your other message, this will work in a 64bit OS.

However, it can only access 4GB's of your memory which puts a limit on how fast it can render compared to Vegas Pro 64bit.

I use Vegas Movie Studio on Windows 7 myself with no problems.

Just make sure you have a decent 4 Core CPU in your computer.

Yes it will work in Windows 7 64 bit OS.

Please know that Vegas Movie Studio is still only a 32 bit program, so it won't be able to take full advantage of your fast computer.

I run Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 on my Windows 7 64 bit OS, with no problems at all to make all the tutorials.

I also use Vegas Pro 10 & 11.

So the program will work OK on your computer - it just wont be able to render as fast as Vegas Pro can, mainly because it can only access 4GB's of your memory.

Did you know that I have tutorials showing the correct way to render a video for YT using Version 10 of Movie Studio ?

Type "480p", "720p" or "1080p" plus "10" into the search box on my channel and you will find the right videos.

Example: search "720p 10"

**You don't need to be converting rendered videos - that's ridiculous - no offence.

#1 Go to Sony Creative Software - Downloads - Updates AND download the newest Build #510 & #511 - this includes many new fixes.

#2 Contact Sony Support and tell them your problem - make sure to right down which module it gets stuck on.

#3 You may find a solution to this on the Sony Forum at this website.

Vegas Pro 11 does not work on XP - all other versions do.

If you are still on XP, then maybe it's time to finally upgrade to Windows 7.

Can the higher end Sony packages deal with 30fps .mov files, I had platinum 11 which could not display them properly which is why I opted for Camtasia which manages these flawlessly and does the basic editing functions far better with less memory than platinum.

30fps is standard video - .mov files display just fine in Vegas Movie Studio.

The only problem some people experience is with the Preview Playback (frame drop) because their computer is under powered for HD video playback. This is normally rectified by changing the Preview Settings and/or upgrading to a modern 4 Core i5 or i7 2nd Generation Intel CPU, which are built for HD Video playback.

Vegas Pro 11 is a 64 bit program, so it can access all the memory on your computer and has GPU acceleration added to the Preview Window. This makes playing back .mov files from a DSLR (which are highly compressed and are decoded in realtime) a lot easier.

However, you still need the right CPU for this to happen.

I notice there is no 64 bit version of the software. you think that might become a problem with a lot of hd footage? i remember my friend that works as a commercial and band editor asked for my help and i let him use my pc to edit one of his commercials. he said something about the forums said that his hd clip wouldnt work because of some 4 gig ram limit associated with the 32 bit version that he had.

Vegas Pro 10 is very, very stable and because it comes in 64 Bit version, your rendering times will be a lot faster - it has more powerful tools.

Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 has just had a free update released for the program, which has a fix for making large HD files work better when on a 64 bit machine.

You can buy VMS Production Suite for $62 on Amazon.

I would love to know where you can get Vegas Pro 10 for "pretty much the same price", unless it fell off the back of a truck.

Vegas Pro 10 can use all the RAM you have installed.

Vegas MS can only access a max of 4GB or RAM because it is only 32 bit.

When I have come across problems in the past, doing fresh installs normally fixes things.

Watch carefully what the screens say when you re-install the NewBlue.exe program.

The only reason why the NewBlue Titler wouldn't work, is if your computer is an older one and doesn't have a decent Graphics Card installed. Because NewBlue is working in 3 dimensions, it needs decent proccessing power to work properly.

I don't know what else to say.

My main problems with Vegas, I was using Pro 8 before I moved up to Vegas Studio platinum 10 a year or so ago, is that in panning the image looks 'hard' and sometimes a little painful for the eyes. I did not necessarily have this when I used regular video tapes with my previous camera but what I use now should not demonstrate this problem. Have a happy holiday, Dex, catch you later.
