WOW GREAT FOOTAGE!! I can hear a whinning/winding that resembles the sound of the propeler coming up out of the water and seems to do this when the bow is going down. Does this happen with such huge ships? Glad you all were ok...2 thumbs up!
Deco, I was a cadet for 4 months, and know exactly what you mean. After working 10+hour shifts you dont care about anything except sleep, especially when working in the motorroom. I've been in 4 of these storms (and alot worse). No excape except the lowest point in the ship
Also you have a cargo to deliver.... and the ship can take it.... you only go around if you think it is faster or that it is so bad the ship can´t take it.
No passengers to worry about.... And we can take it ! :-)
Yup.... 2-3 year seaman school or 4 year maritime collage.... But sometimes we have a deckhand with littel or no training.... But it is diffrent in diffrent countrys.... This is the Swedish system.
Well you are talking about the old Furenäs. This is the new one. Furetank are reuseing the names of the vessels. This one is built 1998 at söviknes ship yard in Norway. She is still serving with the Furetank fleet.
its amazing to see the water coming right over the deck.. maybe the oil in the holds (or tanks ??) add positive buoyancy so that she wont sink ? amazing footage!
Oil in the tanks doesnt provide buoyancy , but rather keeping the gravity as close to the keel as possible, hence a high KG (Keel-Gravity). This water on deck adds weight with a high centre of gravity which again reduced the overall KG. The KM (Keel-Metacentre) is the rotation point so the point is to have a higher KM than KG , or else the ship can capsize very easily. GM(Gravity-Metacentre) is the term used for defining the stability of the ship when its rolling less than 5degrees.
Ja har vart med på en bunkerbåt å vi bunkrade ortviken utranför helsingborg, de va dan morgonen efter finnbirch sjönk, va ett jäkla rullande på kvällen då asså men när vi va på ortviken dan efter så va det stiltje
This is awesome! This shows the mighty powers of the sea! How small man is out there in the blue desert. A tribute to all those brave sailors who have the guts to struggle against those big waves! The guy that took this nice shot, did a great job! Sorry, I did a mistake about the rating, it should be 5 STARS instead of one!
Just curious, I assume you cannot be on deck during this or get swept overboard?

Yes I agree anyone who stop correcting under 30 deg rolling is a sissy.
And over 30 its just put on a safety harness and keep correcting :-)

if this is nice weather i want to know what bad weather is like. Ship ohoj sailor! what do you need some training to work on that ship?
becky334 2 years ago
arent ships supposed to go around this type of weather, or is it just cruise ships that avoid it?...
3x0rcyst3m 2 years ago
generally yes but ships cant really out run weather and it is very unpredictable.

Furenäs is a nice ship. But she is rolling for nothing. Fure west and Fure Nord are better. Nice movie .
