I have often thought that it is much more difficult to maintain a spiritual life as an ordinary house holder, rather than to be sheltered from daily distractions as a hermit. It would seem the hermit has an easier path in that regard. But if one can incorporate the spiritual principles of life into normal everyday life, that is a great accompishment. Also, it seems that spiritual growth needs our interaction with others in order to develop ever greater compassion, kindness and understanding.
