  • I just want to say before I start, I don't mean to be a jerk about this, at all. I just want to inform :)

I understand your guys' concerns about this and I totally get where you are coming from. But this behavior is normal for polar bears. I work at the zoo and I know that animal behaviorists have recorded how much stress hormones are released during this pacing, they found that none was being released! Polar bears are also seen doing this in the wild aswell.I get your guys' concern though :)

  • I was just at this zoo yesterday and took my own video. The bears were doing the same thing! This was very disturbing. They are clearly unhappy and have resorted to neurotic behavior. I understand that they are endangered but I am not sure that zoos are equipt to house these animals. This haunted me long after the trip.

  • Very sad. I'm no animal rights activist but I love animals and hate zoos for exactly the reason you posted this, fuzzygreyzebra.

If people want to see animals, they should watch them on TV or if the opportunity arises, to go on a wildlife trip, but keeping them in captivity like this is just cruel and degrades both the animals and the people looking at them.
