everyone who is afraid of this robot, you need some help, seriously. the robot hasnt even left the building, and your already afraid... look at "us" id be more afraid of ourselves then some robot that doesnt even have the intelligence of an ant. now, im not trying to be rude or anything, im just keeping it real. we kill people, rape people, torture people, LOOK AT US! come on!
lol same dude, *sarcasm ahead* ah no, i agree with everyone else, i more scared of a robot who can barely walk up stairs then an in-mate that can make a .32 cal gun semi auto out of toilet parts(true story)
they wont do that unless humans treat them badly and then robots treat them as a threat lol. whoever murderer out there stop murdering or u will die whether u like it or not lol
honda at the moment is working on the AI part. they say the next asimo will have close to artifical intelligence, dont know what that means, but im certaintly thrill about it
if they equiped this with sprint mode balistics and wepon range combat skill and a wep they could make mils of these and sell them to war Esept thayd have to make it able to identify and be able to go down stairs with out falling...

I don't see how ASIMO is supposedly this huge accomplishment or something. It's just a very expensive (each unit costs a million dollars) way to demonstrate technology. Seriously, the only reason it exists is to advertise for Honda.
I don't think there will ever be a market for humanlike robots. Any of the tasks the human body can do can be done much better by different designs that haven't been made yet. I think the same goes for the human brain which is why I believe consciousness will never be necessary in a machine (thought it would be interesting).
Then again, I could be wrong. So many times predictions about future technology like that have been wrong (e.g. "the world will only ever need 50 computers" and others).
You don't seem to understand how complicated it is to make a robot... just the programation is an enormous work... Of course humans can do many tasks (not all) better than robots but I would be happy if a robot would clean my house and cook for me... honestly I think they will be a robot market in the future.
It costs big a amount of money but in future the prices will probably be lower.
You don't see to understand the points I was making. Firstly, I am very much aware how difficult it is to program something of that magnitude and I am sure it took a lot of research. I myself have dabbled in programming so I know.
Second, if you reread my post, you'll find that I never said the human body can do many tasks better than a robot. In fact, I said quite the opposite. I said that robots could be made that do better than the design of the human body. I _NEVER_ said that there will never be a market for robots, because I know there will be someday. I said there will never be a market for HUMANOID robots because there are many potential designs that are potentially more efficient at what our bodies do.
Likewise, my analogy with consciousness in robots parallels this. The way our bodies and minds work are the result of haphazard evolutionary processes that could have turned out very different under different circumstances. Just because the human body does something one way doesn't mean that's the best or only way to do it. In fact, there's probably much better ways that engineers could come up with. I'm sure there is a lot of effort and innovation in ASIMO, but it's not the future.
Could u imagine Asimo runnin up on u while u gettin n ya car and rob u! lmao dat would be some funny shit, but the irony 2 that story is....NOTHIN MAN MADE IS SAFE!!! LMAO
robots wouldn't take over the world themselves. they wouldn't care about that. but somebody could control them and try that. but well it will never happen you have watched too much irobot or something. but some robots actually has some parts of rat brains so they kinda think something. but those robots are like toy cars what move itself without no one trying to control them
i dont think that technological advancement should be seen as a competition. how many americans do you think drive honda's? or have televisions made in china or japan? and with the federation of american scientists now lifting the ban of arms trade with china, tehnology is moving both ways. if, however you are discussing the ethics behind gov. funding, its a completely different kettle of fish

completely useless. will never do anything helpful apart from amuse those japs and fat americans until they find another useless robot that does nothing to dribble over.
As impressive it is to see a humanoid robot do this stuff, I think its a waste of money. Why spend so much money working on android maids that are likely to mess up in the first place when you can make lots of little specialized robots. We'd be so much further ahead in life.
Its not a waste of money. It's research. When Honda Engineers work on him, they learn new things that eventually get published. In the long run those finds help other companies make advancements on top of those which will eventually help us all.
It's a technical exercise. And no it's not JUST a robot. It's sheer brilliance.
Waste of money.. right. While the Japanese are investing money in progressing technologies and science that will provide future economic growth and competition in the global marketplace, we Americans just send all our money overseas to OPEC, Iraq War, China (interest payments and trade deficit), and all sorts of useless bullshit. If only we'd invest more in NASA and other scientific research, we could be technological leaders once again and prevent China from taking over.
He looks so cute. I want one! Now, eh can wlak, run, balance, play football, go up and down stairs, conduct orchestras and speak. Now, he only need to play guitar and he is perfect!
if you honestly think that robots are going to take over the world, start killing people, then you have no hope for humanity. look at "us" already, look what were doing to ourselves already. how do you know robots are going to do that? how could you possibly know that?? because you've seen it in movies like i robot? terminator? its not the robots fault, dont blame them, its the humans fault, cause we created them, so if they kill us, dont blame them
How do you shut it off in case it goes hay wire and starts stabbing people trying to take over..
I would be a little scared of it catching a virus.. (lol) But at that same time it is very cute and its an awesome achievement on Japan's part I must say..
Of course, but humanoid robot would be much easier to accept as an addition to human society. Besides it could use all the standartised roads, stairs, handles , elevators etc...
I know in 50 years they could program to build skyscrapers, homes, etc. They dont need breaks...they can work constantly and consistently. Buildings will be built in a matter of weeks
..walking robots DO have have those senses. Otherwise they'd topple right over. They use gyroscopes and the like and make thousands of calculation each second to readjust themselves to correct for weight distribution. Most can detect even the slightest degrees of lean.

keep in mind a robot has no balance or judgement as to which way to lean if falling, so its still an incredible break through :o
skarules111 3 years ago
They would however have sensors and gyros for balance in place of judgement.
CharlieChuno 3 years ago
People can learn to walk without their inner ear.
There are three parts to balance.
Visual, You can see which way is up.
Muscle, You get feedback from your muscles to tell you, say if more weight is on your toe or your heel.
And then there is the inner ear, Which tells you which way gravity is pulling.
In order to balance, most people need two of thoes three inputs. Asimo is probably doing just that.
Some people, Like surfers, Have only one reliable input with which to funcion.
chainmaillekid 3 years ago
..walking robots DO have have those senses. Otherwise they'd topple right over. They use gyroscopes and the like and make thousands of calculation each second to readjust themselves to correct for weight distribution. Most can detect even the slightest degrees of lean.
