Great, thanks. I learn well from Ajahn Brahm, but am finding the speaker is less important than the message - although he really is fabulous, it's great to listen to someone else for a change.
the killing part is a no-no in the 5 PRECEPTS. however, think again about this: if u do not kill the mozzie which bites u or the cockroach that invade your house, what would be the effect? if it's a disease carrying mozzie, after feeding on the host - who could be a sleeping child, an elderly or even a healthy person - may infect him with dengue haemorrhage fever, elephantiansis, malaria or etc. then what next? compassion should be exercise with wisdom. human life ranks most important.
I'm a Primal Buddhist... you can kill it.. if you are gonna eat it.. but by all means be respectful, thankful, and merciful.. Sex is great too... but same applies... You are Nature and need not feel guilt to eat and to live... put all to good use...
@live4Cha : Because the Buddhists you met do not put the Buddha's teachings into practice. They have perhaps drifted away from his teachings. It just like the fact that not all Christians are kind, contented and simple like Jesus taught.
@live4Cha Wow. You've met "all those who come from Buddhist origins"? Really?!? ALL of them? I think you may be generalizing. Generalizing comes from an unclear mind. You should try meditation. It could help you develop a clearer, more focused mind.
@kelseywall Hi, I appreciate your time my friend. What do we need clear mind or clean heart? I believe talking with experience does not mean generalizing my friend.
Frustrating listening. Not killing cockroaches is just going too far. However, I do get that our lives are limited and that all we leave this world with is our minds and the karma we generated in our present lives. Good stuff there!
So You think we should not kill parasites that will destroy the human body if they are not destroyed? it´s true we should not kill living beings, but the things i talk about have to be eliminated. I´m not talking about killing cats, dog, birds or anything like that. But only creatures that will kill you if you don´t kill them. If my body is attacked by parasites or living cancer cells i will go to the doktor and have him kill them. If you wanna die instead, that your choice.
Yes, I do agree to the "self defense" concept in term of diseases, but I think we don't have to kill cockroaches though. What's your view on animals like chicken/fish as human's food?
Then i think we are on the same page. I have never killed or even seen cockroahes in real life. But some places in the world, there are cockroaches that spread deseases that can be fatal. As a child i have killed fish when i have been out fishing, but as a grownup i have not killed any kind of animal. The problem is not people eating meat, the problem is the slaugtering of animals. If you can´t get meet, people will stop eating meet. You don´t safe animal life by not eating meet.
there is not platform of discussion here. She tries her best to help you to find the path to happiness. If you think you are already happy, I am very happy for you.
as far as parasites go.. I agree there are parasites that will kill our bodies after a while of being inside of us. it is our duty to protect our lives. and in that sense you must the cockroach is not attacking us it is simply trying to live.. no reason that it must die.
@DRDNIBOY Your arguement is not addressing the fact that cockroaches can be harmful. You're only stating that bug spray (which you don't need to kill a cockroach) is harmful.

By all respect, why then all those who come from

Are the unbeliever in Western?
Thanks

I agree. Some living beings we have the right to kill. Like parasites that can kill you if you don´t kill them.

we have NO RIGHT to kill anything

@nothertreestump Cockroaches carry parasites and disease to humans. This is called vector transmission. That is how the cockroach is harmful.

I'm finding the distortion from the Buddhist's breath too distracting to listen.
