Seals have not been clubbed in years (hunting white coats has been banned for over 20 years) the few people that still use the hakapik are still old fashioned... the Innu don't even use them.
Also we hunt seals for meat first, and the pelt second. We consume the meat and sell the pelt as a by-product, same with the flippers and omega-3 oil.
People who say otherwise (like PETA) have never been involved in the hunt..

Sea Shepherd are cowards, as proven by the April 2008 incident in Canada that got the captain and first mate of the Farley Mowat charged and CONVICTED.

Hi PropagandaBuster! Just to correct a few small things...
Seals have not been clubbed in years (hunting white coats has been banned for over 20 years) the few people that still use the hakapik are still old fashioned... the Innu don't even use them.
Also we hunt seals for meat first, and the pelt second. We consume the meat and sell the pelt as a by-product, same with the flippers and omega-3 oil.
People who say otherwise (like PETA) have never been involved in the hunt..

Sea Shepherd are cowards, as proven by the April 2008 incident in Canada that got the captain and first mate of the Farley Mowat charged and CONVICTED.

The IUCN state there are 8 million harp seals in the world right now, over 5 million of which are in Canada.
1.4 million harp seals or born every year and of that 280,000 were supposed to have been hunted in 2009. This did not happen.
The IUCN concluded that the harp seal population is increasing, regardless or the hunt.
And the activists failed to substantiate their cruelty claims with the EFSA according to their Dec 2007 report (google EFSA-Q-2007-118).

Please refer to the ICES report concerning the impact of the Harp Seal overpopulation on the North Atlantic eco-system. For your own sake I suggest doing your own research instead of reading from the PeTA press release.

Oh so the fact that they endangered the lives of sealers by using their ship to move and break up the ice the sealers were on had nothing to do with it ?
How about the fact that they were told to back off several times by the coast guard without response ?
That they needed to be intercepted by the coast guard and blocked to keep them from breaking the ice up ?
There was quite alot of footage that didn't make it onto Youtube that resulted in the convictions.

I've seen all the footage... they did not endanger their lives.. I've seen plenty of footage of sealers running around hoping from iceberg to iceberg... and if you saw the footage... the coast guard ship pulled in and hit their boat... ive never seen footage of sea shepherd cracking any ice near the sealers... it's just really easy to say i was scared for my life

....it's just an excuse to keep bashing NEWBORN baby seals repeatedly in the head! it's one of the most inhumane acts done by humans. A culture of humans that I wish would sink in the Arctic. And the way the ice is melting... maybe they will sink...
they say they kill the seals for eating all the fish... welll... that's so far from the truth ...

The EU commissioned EFSA report clearly states that 95% of the seals hunted in Canada are 1 to 3.5 months of age. That's at least four weeks after they were weened from their mothers and had molted entirely out of their white fur.
By six weeks they are learning to swim. And NO, they are not killing the seals because of the cod.

You saw all the footage ? That's odd because very little of it was released and Paul Watson himself said the raw footage had been taken during the raid. It has remained in the court's possession since then as evidence.
In Jan 2006, eleven Sea Shepherd members were convicted in PEI in regards to the March 2005 incident so they were not eligible for an observers license.

??? what are you talking about ? You still have to follow the maritime law in high sea. Since Japan and Netherlands signed it and didn't make reservation to the law, they have to follow it. Typical SSCS comments. Use any law to protest their points, but neglect other laws.

Yeah, exactly - he's talking about GREENPEACE and others. SSCS does NOT fund raise off of their campaigns - organizations like Greenpeace do.
SSCS spends about 90% of their income directly on the campaigns. We are NOT a fundraising organization or "protest" organization. We are a direct action organization. And we get results.
